No Man's Sky will be available for the Nintendo Switch soon. Director Sean Murray at Hello Games confirmed that the studio's expansive, open-universe game will arrive on October 7, 2022. This is a little later than Hello Games' original target window of "mid-2022."

Check out a tweet featuring Murray's comments and a video demo of the game running on Switch.

Hello Games also uploaded a more formal No Man's Sky Switch trailer to its YouTube channel.

The Switch trailer repeats the now-familiar No Man's Sky pitch, touting its "Every [Thing] Procedural" tagline. It ends up showing a player walking along the surface of an unknown planet and jetting off into space.

The Switch edition is No Man's Sky as it exists today, which means it'll included day-one access to the various free updates issued over the last six years. These range from the Atlas Rises update that added joint exploration to April 2022's Outlaws update, which added the ability for a player to become a rogue pilot. The most current update available on the PC, PS4, and Xbox editions is Leviathan, which added living "space whale" frigates.

Originally released for the PlayStation 4 and PC in 2016, No Man's Sky is a game where virtually every element in its simulated universe is procedurally generated. This means that an algorithm uses the game's engine to spontaneously "create" new planets, stars, lifeforms, spaceships, flora, fauna, and elements as the player explores. The universe includes over 18 quintillion planets for players to land on, exploit for resources, or settle. Following its launch, the game was the subject of controversy, as some players felt the game's actual scope and feature set didn't match what was implied by the marketing. For example, the release version didn't include synchronous multiplayer or any settlement-building mechanics. Hello Games continued to work on No Man's Sky and turned its reputation around over multiple updates, with many concluding that the game now lives up to those early promises and more.

No Man's Sky is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The Switch edition arrives on October 7, 2022, and Hello Games confirmed that it is working with Apple to bring the game to Mac and iPad devices in the future.
