More information about the new Puella Magi Madoka Magica movie will appear at the Aniplex Online Fest 2023. The event will be held on September 10, 2023 in Japan. The announcement came from the official Madoka Magica Twitter account. The English title of the new film is Walpurgisnacht: Rising, and the Japanese title is Walpurgis no Kaiten. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
The movie will be a direct sequel to the third Puella Magi Madoka Magica film, titled Rebellion. The first series of Puella Magi Madoka Magica movies initially released between 2012 and 2013, and there are three movies in total. Gen Urobuchi returns as the writer for the new Walpurgisnacht: Rising movie, and Akiyuki Shinbo will be in charge of directing it.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica Walpurgisnacht: Rising was originally announced on April 2021, as part of the 10th anniversary of the Madoka Magica franchise. A teaser trailer appeared alongside the announcement. However, there have been no news ever since its reveal. This will be the first time in over two years that new information about the movie will appear.
