Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom grosses over 1 billion yen

Sunrise announced that the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom movie grossed over 1 billion yen within the first three days of the film's release in Japan. A total of 634,182 people came to watch the movie in 353 theaters across the country from January 26, 2024, to January 28, 2024. The exact box office revenue recorded by the studio is 1,065,983,130 yen (~$7,204,050).

Sunrise has also published a new trailer to accompany the box office announcement. It features the new See-Saw song "Sarigiwa no Romantics." While the YouTube version is geo-restricted to Japan only, the trailer is readily watchable worldwide via X:

In its press release, Sunrise also noted that SEED Freedom has set a new hit record among the Gundam movies with its billion yen milestone. The previous major movie, Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway, launched in 2021. It had also grossed over 1 billion yen, but it took ten days to reach the milestone with 501,706 tickets sold. That means the Cosmic Era alternate universe title had surpassed the Universal Century entry in both time and amount of tickets.

Sunrise and Bandai have also been holding exhibitions and releasing merchandise to help promote the new movie. Sunrise has released crossover merchandise pairing Gundam SEED people with Sanrio characters like Hello Kitty. Meanwhile, Bandai Spirits has opened pre-orders for SH Figuarts action figures of Kira Yamato and Lacus Clyne.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom is available to watch in movie theaters across Japan.
