Dear Daniel Is the Worst Hello Kitty Island Adventure Visitor

Dear Daniel is a scourge upon this planet. Okay. Maybe that is a bit harsh. He’s a cash-in character, but perhaps more of a forgettable annoyance in our everyday life. Would that we could say the same for Hello Kitty Island Adventure, a game in which Dear Daniel is not only the worst Visitor, but a blight upon anyone attempting to get specific characters to stop by and stay forever.

I’m not going to be mean and make this about looks, even though I’m not a fan of Dear Daniel’s design. (A few strands of hair on his forehead to differentiate him is quite lazy.) This is about his nature. The character is part of the Visitor tutorial in the game. This means his requirements to occupy a cabin are easy to clear. It needs to be in the Seaside Resort area, as that is where Hello Kitty lives, and it needs to have three pieces of furniture. Simple!

Also, frustrating! Most other Visitors require specific pieces of furniture from certain types, and often at least three pieces. Because Dear Daniel will set up shop — for multiple days without asking which is very rude — in any cabin in that area that even vaguely fits his requirements, it can lock you out of getting other people to visit. The place you might have specifically prepared for them will have this basic cat squatting in it!

The solution to dealing with it? Let him have the place, which is the worst. The game features a mechanic that has Visitors ask to become a permanent resident if you complete their brief side quests, chat them up, and ensure they have a cabin that suits their needs. So that means giving up a house you might live and actually… sigh… making this unwanted feline feel at home so you can at least lock him down and keep track of him.

Personally, I took all of the furniture out of his cabin once he did move in for good. That’s what you get, Dear Daniel! An empty house with no furniture and a cold, hard floor!

Even his daily reward is incredibly generic. A Mama’s Apple Pie? Come on! Mimmy gives us the same thing as Dear Daniel in Hello Kitty Island Adventure and has the decency to only move into cabins with Hello Kitty furniture. Even Hello Kitty herself only considers that a two heart gift!

The reason why I’m starting to get a little more frustrated by Dear Daniel than usual is because he is occupying what is turning into prime real estate. It wasn’t so bad when we only had the Hello Kitty related Visitors Mimmy and him in Hello Kitty Island Adventures. When Pam and Tam showed up for Tuxedosam, it was manageable too because there are plenty of Seaside Resort homes for them to use. But now we have My Melody’s Mama, Papa, Grandma, and Grandpa who all must have homes prepared for them in that location, and there are only eight cabins total around there.

At least when Dear Daniel is moved into a Hello Kitty Island Adventure home and is settled, you don’t have to worry about him being the worst Visitor anymore. He’s then just a resident you can ignore, unless you absolutely need a Mama’s Apple Pie for something. But if we do get some more cool characters who need to be in Seaside Resort, know that he’ll be the first evicted and the nightmare of wondering when he’ll show up and steal someone’s spot will begin anew.

However, at least we can take solace in knowing that with enough effort, we can fill the Seaside Resort cabins with enough other, good permanent Visitors and ensure Dear Daniel will never darken our Hello Kitty Island Adventure doors again.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is available on Apple devices and Macs for Apple Arcade subscribers.
