Babylon's Fall Shutdown

Square Enix announced that Babylon's Fall will shut down early next year. Starting today, September 13, 2022, all sales of the game's premium currency have been suspended. Sales of the digital and physical version of the game itself will be wound down, as well, though the game is still available as of this writing. The final shutdown of Babylon's Fall is set for February 27, 2023. The game first launched on February 28, 2022, making it almost exactly a year old when it ends service.

Given that the Babylon's Fall team was proclaiming as late as May 2022 that the game wasn't about to go away, it seems that the game never really recovered from a negative early perception, with few players returning to the game after the initial launch bubble. Though its initial crossover event with NieR Automata went off as scheduled in March, the team put a hold on its content plans to "re-evaluate" the future of the game.

As for what will happen from here on, the official site's notice (web archive link here) announcing the Babylon's Fall shutdown says that the team has abandoned plans for "large-scale updates". Instead, the ongoing Season 2 of content will run through November 29, 2022 as scheduled. It'll then give way to the Final Season, where the remaining players can earn their Season 2 ranking rewards. The team intends to implement as many of the remaining events and content initiatives as possible before the final day. According to a calendar on the site, at least three more waves of Event Missions will go live prior to the end of service.

Babylon's Fall is available on PS4, PS5, and PC. It will shut down on February 27, 2023.
