May is officially underway, which means a new batch of Field Research tasks has arrived in Pokemon Go, as has a new Research Breakthrough reward. Each time you achieve a Research Breakthrough this month, you'll earn a chance to catch the Electric-type Pokemon Shinx, and it'll come with some bonus Candies.
To achieve a Research Breakthrough, you'll need to collect seven stamps. You'll receive one stamp for the first Field Research task you complete each day, so you'll need to complete tasks over the course of at least seven days to achieve a Research Breakthrough. Fortunately, your progress from last month does not reset, so if you were already on your way to a Research Breakthrough, you'll only need to collect however many stamps you were missing this month to encounter Shinx.
Unlike the story-focused Special Research tasks, which are assigned by Professor Willow, Field Research tasks are distributed through PokeStops. In addition to netting you stamps, you'll earn various rewards each time you complete a task, ranging from helpful items like Berries and Poke Balls to Pokemon encounters.
