Psychonauts 2 Gets August Release Date

2 years 11 months ago

It’s been a long wait for Psychonauts 2, but the wait is finally almost over. With a release scheduled for later this summer, we’ll finally get to see what Raz and his buddies are up to. We were so excited about the project, that we recently featured the game on our cover. But today brought the opportunity to see more of the game in action via the E3 trailer for the project.

The trailer opens with Raz flying into the Psychonauts headquarters, directly following up on the events from the first game, which released way back in 2005. In the video, we also see a variety of surreal settings, from a maniacal judge swinging a giant gavel in an exaggerated courtroom locale to Raz riding a giant pinball/pachinko ball (and later bowling ball) as it rolls through a colorful environment. The action appears to move fast, with lots of creativity in Double Fine’s approach to traversal and navigation.

While it should come as no surprise, the game radiates the humor and witty intelligence that we've come to see as a hallmark of games from Double Fine Productions. But this trailer also makes a case that action gameplay has come a long way since 2005, and Psychonauts 2 is doing everything it can feel modern and competitive in that sphere.

Psychonauts 2 is coming August 25 for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, and Xbox Cloud Gaming, and will be included with Game Pass.
