Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake 2024 Release Window Seemingly Confirmed in PlayStation Trailer

4 months 1 week ago

PlayStation has listed the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, officially Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater (the Δ is pronounced delta), as a 2024 game.

A trailer advertising various PlayStation 5 games coming in 2024 (below) includes lots of entries with established release dates (like The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth), but also quietly listed the release window for the highly anticipated remake.

Publisher Konami is yet to confirm any sort of release date or window itself, though given it was announced by PlayStation in 2023 and is coming to the PS5, it likely knows it's stuff. IGN has reached out to Konami for comment.

Not stopping there, the PlayStation trailer also listed the Silent Hill 2 Remake as a 2024 release, seemingly dropping two major release windows in the space of two minutes.

Silent Hill 2 Remake Seemingly Confirmed for 2024 Release in New PlayStation Trailer

4 months 1 week ago

The highly anticipated Silent Hill 2 Remake may have just received a release window as PlayStation quietly listed the game as a 2024 title.

A reel advertising various PlayStation 5 games coming in 2024 (below) includes lots of entries with established release dates (like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Rise of the Ronin) but also Silent Hill 2 Remake, which hasn't had any release window until now.

The advertisement didn't offer any more details, as Silent Hill 2 Remake was simply listed amongst the other titles with some previously seen footage. IGN has reached out to developer Bloober Team for comment.

Silent Hill 2 Remake is set to be a full recreation of the survival horror classic, though Bloober Team has been adamant about not making story changes.

"We are focusing on bringing the distinct, visceral atmosphere back in the modernized Silent Hill 2," chief marketing officer Anna Jasińska said in January 2023. "Longtime fans shouldn’t worry about us missing the point while we’re livening up the title.

"We faithfully stick to the traditional story canon while remaking the gameplay and updating the graphics from the ground up. These are the reasons why Konami entrusted us with the remake in the first place."

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Surpasses 5 Million Players

4 months 1 week ago

Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red has revealed the game's Phantom Liberty expansion has sold more than five million copies.

Revealed in a post on X/Twitter (below), the developer confirmed the sales milestone and thanked players for their support. "Over five million agents have infiltrated Dogtown," it said. "Thank you for all your support, and good luck on your mission."

Though no exact timeframe was released, CD Projekt Red said the five million copies were sold in 2023, and as Phantom Liberty launched on September 26, it reached the milestone in just over three months.

The expansion surpassed three million units within its first week, with the strong reception, holiday period, and Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition seemingly contributing towards its further success.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth – The Final Preview

4 months 1 week ago

Kiryu Kazuma and Kasuga Ichiban are two sides of the same Like a Dragon coin. Their personalities could not be more different — Kiryu, a world-weary lone wolf, and Kasuga, a Dragon Quest-loving golden retriever — but they live by a similar code of ethics and share a similar past, both locked up for crimes they didn't commit to help out their yakuza families. It was a bummer that Kiryu didn't stick around longer when he came around in Yakuza: Like a Dragon. The two men would sure as hell have a lot to talk about.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth finally brings the two mainline protagonists together for an ultra-compelling and sprawling game that lives up to its subtitle. The three-and-a-half-ish hours I spent roaming Honolulu and Yokohama, sprucing up the trashed Dondoko Island, and battling a Megalodon-sized shark felt like a drop in the Pacific Ocean in terms of the game's scope. And that's just speaking to the gameplay. Having both Kasuga and Kiryu as playable protagonists place the story on a broad emotional spectrum that plays to the strengths of each character's worldview: Kasuga and his ridiculousness, Kiryu and his legacy of struggle. It's a great balance between the past and future of the Like a Dragon franchise.

Xbox Series S Toaster Is Real and Now Available to Buy From Walmart

4 months 1 week ago

First, we had the Xbox Series X Mini Fridge, and now we're veering into other kitchen appliances. The Xbox Series S toaster is real, it costs $39.99, and is currently available to buy directly from Walmart. Now we've seen everything.

The new two-slice toaster also features a bagel function, digital countdown timer, and six different shade settings. Moreover, it will also expertly toast the Xbox logo onto your toast -- what a marvel of engineering.

We have also left a handy link just below if you're interested in checking out the live Xbox Series S Toaster listing at Walmart (or even want to consider buying it).

Due to some unconventional design choices, both the Xbox Series X and Series S have already been the subject of various memes since launch.

As mentioned, the Xbox has already leaned into this discussion with the release of the Xbox Series X Mini Fridge and now seems to be testing the waters with more Xbox-themed applicances.

The Xbox Series S Toaster was first speculated about back in March 2023 when France-based outlet Xbox Squad first tweeted about their discovery.

Xbox Squad's source has also claimed that even more products like the Series S toaster could be on the way, including dinner sets, pens, and more.

Warhammer Co-Creator Bryan Ansell Dies at 68

4 months 1 week ago

Bryan Ansell, one of the chief architects of the Warhammer franchise alongside Richard Halliwell and Rick Priestley, has died. He was 68.

Ansell's death was announced on Instagram on December 30 with the message, "With great sadness, we announce that Bryan passed away peacefully at home this morning surrounded by his family, 30th December 2023."

It included a classic photo of Ansell sitting in front of a Warhammer army with the description, "Mighty, Dark-Winged, Avenging Lord of Chaos, Bryan Ansell, and his Mighty Avenging Chaos Army."

Warhammer founded Cidatel Miniatures in partnership with Steven Jackson's Games Workshop in 1978. His initially sold 25mm historical and fantasy miniatures and games, but it was 1983's Warhammer Fantasy Battle that would become the company's breakout hit. Ansell bought out Games Workshop alongside Tom Kirby, and the company was eventually refocused around Warhammer and Warhammer 40K. Ansell ultimately left Games Workshop to focus on Wargames Foundry.

Warhammer, of course, remains immensely popular to this day, as evidenced by the huge range of licensed video games and other media that have come out of the property. The tabletop game likewise remains very popular, fostering a passionate community dedicated to painting miniatures among other activities.

Smash Bros. Creator Sakurai Says He's Still Focused on Making Games

4 months 1 week ago

Super Smash Bros. and Kirby director Masahiro Sakurai revealed he's still making games while juggling his recent shift into becoming a video game YouTuber.

In the latest episode of Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games, aptly titled "Creators Change, Too," Sakurai reflected on what it was like entering the video game industry at a young age and experiencing his predecessors slowly phase out of public consciousness. As if reading the room via the internet, Sakurai addressed whether the subject matter of his video pertained to himself saying he's still actively working in the industry.

"As for me, I'm still creating games for the time being," Sakurai said. "But I'm also making this YouTube channel. I'd never done anything like this before starting out, so in a way, you could say I haven't exactly stayed put either."

Although Sakurai coupled his announcement with an old Smash Bros. gameplay video, he didn't disclose whether or not he was working on a new entry in the eclectic video games Oscars-esque fighting game series. However, in a previous YouTube video, Sakurai has gone on record saying "I can't imagine a Smash Bros. title without me," and that he'd still like to "keep working with Nintendo." Regardless, we'll have to keep our fingers crossed for whatever Sakurai has been cooking at a later date.

Mecha BREAK Is Like a Multiplayer Mecha Anime Brought To Life

4 months 1 week ago

Mecha BREAK, at first glance, has all the flash of a mecha anime brought to life. I’m talking massive, colorful robot suits, each with their own movesets, roles, and specialties strafing across arena shooter-style maps in bouts of neon-lit glory. What you might not have been able to glean from its energetic reveal trailer at The Game Awards, though, is that it’s actually a multiplayer-only experience. And with Titanfall on ice and Armored Core 6 burying its PvP behind a few chapters of its campaign, it’s cool to see a mech game on this scale fully commit to multiplayer.

Despite their hulking size, mechs in Mecha BREAK don’t feel like lumbering bots of mass destruction. Instead, they move with speed and grace. Strafing to dodge enemy fire just to get in close to hit them with a few melee attacks before parrying their counterattack with your shield and then finishing the job, feels much tighter than you’d expect. Hits land with the appropriate oomph, and each attack lights up the screen with bright colors. It’s clear Mecha BREAK understands that mechs are inherently cool and that a good mech game needs to transmit that coolness through the controller.

CD Projekt Is Not Interested in Being Acquired

4 months 1 week ago

Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher developer CD Projekt Red is not interested in being acquired despite the likes of Xbox and PlayStation actively seeking out studios to purchase.

Adam Kiciński, chief strategy officer of parent company CD Projekt S.A., told Polish outlet Parkiet that the company is happy and healthy as an independent being.

"We are not interested in integrating ourselves into any larger entity," Kiciński said. "Throughout our entire lives we have worked towards the position we currently hold. We believe that in a few years, we will be even bigger and stronger."

CD Projekt Red is certainly getting bigger as an expansion into North America is currently underway. The aptly titled CD Projekt Red North America will include teams at an already established Vancouver studio plus a new Boston-based studio currently being built. These teams will work adjacent to the CD Projekt Red developers in Poland but will focus on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, codenamed Orion, instead of the next mainline Witcher game, codenamed Polaris.

Thirteen-year-old phenom Willis "Blue Scuti" Gibson was the first to pull off the improbable feat, which saw him reach level 157 before hitting what is being called the "final killscreen" by fans."

A new video charts the community's progress to beating the famously challenging version of the game, which lacks later features like the ability to store pieces. Even experts were only able to make it to around level 38 before it became impossible to keep up. However, a technique introduced in 2021 called "rolling," which was achieved by utilizing the bottom of the controller, revolutionized the Tetris community and led to a host of new world records.

Infestation '88 Renamed as Developers Disavow 'Nazism and Hate in Any Form' [Update]

4 months 1 week ago

Update: Infestation '88 has been officially renamed Infestation: Origins following blowblack over its references to Neo-Nazi ideology. In a statement to IGN, Nightmare Forge Games reiterated that the original name was meant to reflect the year "1988," adding, "Unfortunately, at the time of its announcement, we were unaware of any additional meanings the number '88' has. Through feedback from the community, we learned it did, and therefore made this name change ASAP."

We want to apologize for our ignorance on this topic and appreciate that it was brought to our attention so we could address it. There is no intentional use of Nazi symbolism in our game nor studio, and we'll continue to address any concerns as they arise. We strongly stand against Nazism and hate in any form."

The original story continues below.

The developers behind the game announced as Infestation 88, a new Mickey Mouse horror game announced shortly after the character entered the public domain, are responding to claims that it contains Neo-Nazi references and other problematic content.

In separate interviews with Motherboard and Kotaku, the developers at Nightmare Forge Games, who declined to reveal their identities "for the sake of maintaining privacy," claimed that the references to "88" — a common Neo-Nazi dogwhistle — were unintentional. The developers also responded to claims of asset flipping and AI-generated voices, which have been in the news recently amid controversies like The Day Before.

Nintendo Legend Shigeru Miyamoto Isn't Retiring Anytime Soon

4 months 1 week ago

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto revealed he's not quite ready to call it a career at Nintendo just yet.

"More so than retiring, I’m thinking about the day I fall over,” Miyamoto told The Guardian. "In this day and age you have to think about things in a five-year timespan, so I do think about who I can pass things on to, in case something does happen."

"I’m really thankful that there is so much energy around things that I have worked on,'" he continued. "These are things that have already gone out into the world … they’ve been cultivated by others, other people have been raising them, helping them grow, so in that sense I don’t feel too much ownership over them any more.”

This has been a common refrain from Miyamoto, who previously said he wasn't ready to retire when we interviewed him on the occasion of Super Nintendo World opening in the U.S.

The Sinking City Developer Frogwares Now Sole Publisher After Long Legal Battle

4 months 1 week ago

Frogwares has announced that it is the sole publisher of The Sinking City on all platforms. This comes after Frogwares’ lengthy legal battle with the game’s original PC publisher, Nacon.

The PC version will be updated on Steam, Epic Games, GOG, and Gamesplanet in the coming weeks. “This latest version will come with all the previous bug fixes and optimizations, as well as a few things to keep in mind for the existing owners of the game on Steam and Epic Games Store,” Frogwares explained.

Old saves won’t be compatible with the latest PC version of the game, although Steam users will have the option to continue playing the old version if they want to finish it. However, the old version will only stay around until February 28. Frogwares will also release new saves for players to download and use.

The Sinking City was pulled from some platforms back in 2020 due to disputes between Frogwares and Nacon. Frogwares alleged that Nacon breached its contract and withheld at least €1 million in royalties, falsely implying ownership of the IP, and more.

Star Wars Outlaws Arrives Late 2024 [Updated]

4 months 1 week ago

Update: Ubisoft reached out to IGN to say that the "late 2024" timing had been updated to a "correct" release window of 2024. The original story is below.

Star Wars Outlaws, the highly anticipated open world game from Ubisoft, will be released in late 2024.

Though Ubisoft and Star Wars owner Disney had previously remained tight lipped about the release date, a Disney Parks blog post quietly announced the release window, which was previously only confirmed to be sometime in 2024.

"Star Wars Outlaws, the open world Star Wars game, is set to release late this year," the post said. "The game lets you explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. You can risk it all as Kay Vess, an emerging scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. If you’re willing to take the risk, the galaxy is full of opportunity."

Star Wars Outlaws was revealed at the 2023 Xbox Games Showcase with a gameplay presentation coming soon after, and fans quickly grew obsessed with the cute axolotl-like Nix.

Firewall Ultra Developer First Contact Entertainment to Shut Down After Nearly Eight Years

4 months 1 week ago

First Contact Entertainment, the developer behind such PlayStation VR titles as Firewall Ultra and Firewall Zero Hour, has announced it will be shutting down at the beginning of 2024.

First Contact took to Facebook to share the news, saying "the lack of support for VR within the industry" is one of the main reasons for this decision.

"After almost 8 years of working with the most amazing team I’ve ever have the pleasure of being part of, I’m sad to announce that we will be closing our company First Contact Entertainment by the end of the year," First Contact Entertainment wrote. "The lack of support for VR within the industry has eventually taken its toll.

"As a AAA VR game developer, we are just not able to justify the expense needed gouging [sic] forward. We are a team of fearless innovators willing to push new technologies to its limits. I am extremely proud of the team and grateful to our investors, our partners and of course our community of dedicated and passionate players. It’s been a wild ride, Thank you!"

Firewall Ultra was released in September 2023 and we enjoyed parts of it, saying, "with two steps forward and two back, this VR sequel feels ultra ambivalent."

"A competent sequel to the multiplayer VR shooter original in most ways, Firewall Ultra's awkward use of eye tracking and lack of content are a shot in the foot rather than the arm," we added in our Firewall Ultra review.

Geometry Dash’s Latest Update Allows Players to Recreate Mario Kart, Five Nights at Freddy’s, and More

4 months 1 week ago

Nearly seven years since its last major content update, Geometry Dash received a massive update just before the holidays. Now, players are using features newly added to the game's level editor to recreate games like Mario Kart, Five Nights at Freddy's, and Yume Nikki, essentially turning the rhythm platformer from 2013 into its own game engine overnight.

Update 2.2, released by developer RobTop on December 19, adds a new game mode, a new main level, and (perhaps most importantly) new features to the game's level editor, including new shader effects, a particle editor, and camera controls. Two weeks later, Geometry Dash players are still taking to social media to share their creations, and they've cooked up some pretty impressive recreations of popular games — including a few that seemingly shouldn't be possible in Geometry Dash.

A few players have pushed Geometry Dash to its limit by recreating 3D games despite the level editor being entirely 2D. As shared by several players across X/Twitter and Reddit, player YaY is currently working on a Geometry Dash recreation of the original Five Nights at Freddy's, and they've already added working doors and cameras.

Another player has recreated Rainbow Road from the original Super Mario Kart, complete with a seemingly 3D player model of Yoshi.

Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty DLC Passes A Big Milestone

MSI Gaming Teases Its Own Steam Deck Competitor

4 months 1 week ago

MSI Gaming has showed details of a Steam Deck-style handheld, via a brief teaser video on its Instagram account.

The first part of the video shows the front of the device in a dark space, with only the offset sticks encircled by RGB light visible. It continues by showing details of the device's back, a red and black color scheme emblazoned with the MSI logo. The video's final frame shows a logo featuring multicolored claws and the text "#MSIxCES2024." The caption reads "A whole new breed of MSI dragon is coming. Get a grip and stay tuned." Presumably more details will release during CES from Jan 9-12. Price point and specs are currently unknown.

This is far from the first Steam Deck competitor to emerge. The ROG Ally released in June 2023 for $700 and was eventually joined by a cheaper $600 version. The Ally also has native Game Pass support, as it runs Windows. The Lenovo Legion Go uses the same AMD chip set as the Ally and has a similar price point at $700. However, it also has a bigger screen and removable controllers (a la the Switch's Joy-Cons).

The Steam Deck itself got an OLED upgrade last year. While they are still in stock, original LCD versions of the Steam Deck are on discount.

The Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Is Coming Out This Year

4 months 1 week ago

Metal Gear Solid fans won't have to wait much longer to climb that extremely hazardous ladder again in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake. Although it doesn't have a release date, it's scheduled to come out sometime this year.

The news comes from a video posted by the official PlayStation YouTube channel, where the company shared a two-minute clip of some of the biggest games coming to its platform this year. The video featured games that are already confirmed for 2024, such as Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Tekken 8, Helldivers II, and more. As the video nears its end, it's confirmed that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will come out later this year.

What's especially notable is that Konami, the company behind Metal Gear, hasn't commented on when the upcoming Metal Gear remake will come out. It's also worth pointing out that this wasn't the only Konami game that got a release window. The same video also confirmed that the Silent Hill 2 remake will be coming out later this year.

Although not much is known about the upcoming Metal Gear remake--titled Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater--we do know that it'll feature some of the original cast to some degree and will be playable on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Former Nintendo Employees Predict When They Think Switch 2 Will Be Announced And What It Will Be

4 months 1 week ago

Former Nintendo employees Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang have weighed in with their thoughts on the next Nintendo console, including a prediction for when it could be announced and what the system might be.

In a video outlining their predictions for 2024, both Ellis and Yang agreed in their prediction that the Switch successor will be announced in the first half of 2024. Yang believes it will be announced in Q1, which runs January-March this year.

Yang said the timing of the announcement could be tied to Nintendo's next financial year, which begins on April 1, 2024. "Based on hardware patterns from the past, it does seem like you want to get an official announcement out before the end of the fiscal year, so you can remain really strong with your shareholders," Yang said.

Ellis, for his part, said he believes Nintendo management now more meaningfully considers its shareholders, including what they think and how they feel. He said this is a marked change from the past.

When will the next console be released? Yang said she believes it will be revealed in June or July, with marketing ramping up in April-May. She predicted stock for the Switch successor will be constrained at launch, but she expects these problems to be sorted out before the holiday shopping season. Ellis said he generally agreed with Yang's thoughts on when the console might launch, saying he believes it will be out by September 1.

GTA Online Brings Back Peyote, Lets You Transform Into A Cow

4 months 1 week ago

GTA Online will now let you become a wildlife photographer and get so high you transform.

Animals were recently added to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 versions of GTA Online (they've been in the single player since launch). Now you can take photos of them to earn in-game rewards. In a new Daily Collectable called Wildlife Photography, you can take pictures of up to three different animals. Despite the name, animals included can be either domesticated or wild. Taking one picture for the challenge will unlock the ability to purchase the new Declasse Park Ranger. Taking 10 photo will unlock the vehicle's trade price.

In other animal news, you can find Peyote plants out in the wilds. Ingesting them will cause you to change shape into an animal like a deer or a cow. These will only be available for a limited time, just like prior times Peyote has been added to GTA Online. You can always use the plant in single player.

As for other modes and rewards, you can steal the Lampadati Casco, Enus Deity, and Vapid Ellie for Salvage Yard Robberies. Adjustments have been made to Payphone Hits. The payout for assassinations is lower, but the cooldown between hits has been reduced to 10 minutes. You can also earn 2X GTA$ and RP in Rockstar-created Stunt Races, Junk Energy Time Trials, and HAW Races through January 10.

Grand Theft Auto V will be leaving Game Pass later this month. The first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI debuted early after a leak in December 2023.

You can read the full details of the update on Rockstar's official website.

Heroes Of The Storm Is, Sort Of, Receiving New Content In The Form Of A Starcraft 2 Mod

4 months 1 week ago

Active development on Heroes of the Storm, Blizzard's MOBA starring heroes and villains from across its iconic game franchises, ended in 2022, but one group of dedicated fans is bringing the game back in a big way.

It's called Resurgence of the Storm, and it's a free mod for Blizzard's own Starcraft 2, albeit one that completely transforms the RTS into something that is near indistinguishable from the official Blizzard-made version of Heroes of the Storm. Unlike Heroes of the Storm, which is still playable but no longer receives new content (but does occasionally receive some minor balance updates and bug fixes), Resurgence of the Storm features never-before-seen heroes, updated talents and abilities for some existing heroes, and even a content roadmap. The mod has been in development for over four years and is now officially available to the public.

The Number of 2023 Steam Releases Is Too Damn High

4 months 1 week ago

2023 has quickly been inserted into the discussion for the year with the best selection of new game releases, with games like Baldur's Gate 3, The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom, and Alan Wake 2 headlining the year. For Steam users in particular, there's a lot to consider, as reports say over 14,000 games launched on the service last year.

SteamDB, an independent site dedicated to analyzing Steam activity, states that 14,535 unique games launched on the platform in 2023, which marks a nearly 2,000-game increase from the previous year. VGC, via Circana (formerly NPD), also notes that Steam's 14,000+ launch figure dwarfs the second-place platform--the Nintendo Switch, which saw 2,360 games added to its library.

The number of new releases on Steam is staggering when compared to a decade before; 2013 saw only 435 new Steam games for the entire year. It also nearly doubles the service's output in 2018, when 8,900 games were launched.

In math terms: If you attempted to play every game that launched on Steam last year, you would have had to play video games every minute of every day of 2023. Oh, and you'd only be able to dedicate, at maximum, 37 minutes of playing time to each game.

2024 doesn't seem to be slowing down either, as SteamDB reports nearly 100 games have already launched as of the writing of this sentence, with the number set to eclipse the century mark by the end of the day. Notable Steam launches in January 2024 include Tekken 8, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and Enshrouded.

Star Citizen Now Selling $48,000 Bundle That Includes Every Ship

4 months 1 week ago

Cloud Imperium Games is selling a new DLC bundle for the spacefaring game Star Citizen that will set you back the cost of a fancy new real-life car. The Legatus 2953 bundle, as it's called, includes every ship in the game, along with a variety of extras. The cost? $48,000.

The bundle comes with more than 175 ships from every one of the game's many manufacturers, which the developer said should allow players to "forge a lasting legacy, leading humanity towards a brighter future." It includes weapons and cosmetics as well. Nearly all of the content is available now, except for the Karna Ascension rifle, which will be released sometime during Q1 2024 (January-March).

Cloud Imperium Games has sold these type of bundles since 2018. As PC Gamer reminds us, the first iteration of the bundle was priced at $27,000, and now it's scaled to almost double that. The site also reported that players need to have already spent $1,000 on Star Citizen to buy the Legatus 2953 bundle. That's because the premium offering is apparently only available to people in the Chairman's Club.

Star Citizen alpha 3.21, the newest version of the game, is available now on PC. The developer is releasing the game on an ongoing basis, with more features and functionality introduced over time. A standalone single-player game, Squadron 42, is also in development but doesn't have a release date yet. The game recently crossed a major development milestone, becoming feature-complete in October 2023.

Apex Legends And Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Crossover Event Allows Any Legend To Wield The Buster Sword

4 months 1 week ago

Apex Legends players just got a closer look at the game's upcoming collaboration with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth via a new trailer for the event. The Apex Legends & Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Event was initially announced at 2023's The Game Awards on December 7, though the presentation didn't include many details, leaving fans of both games wondering what exactly the event would entail. According to the new trailer, the new event will give players access to a new limited-time mode, tons of Final Fantasy-themed cosmetic skins, and a new Buster Sword Heirloom Weapon that can be equipped by any legend, making it the first of its kind.

The event, which begins on January 9, will feature a new LTM that will replace unranked battle royale mode for the three-week duration of the event. Known as Final Fantasy Takeover, the new mode will see the game's maps littered with Cactuar-themed "Cacticks," special Loot Ticks that provide Materia Hop-Ups when destroyed. Materia Hop-Ups give players access to special buffs, including lightning AoE damage, HP absorption, and an AI-controller SOLDIER Nessie who will aid players in battle. The Final Fantasy Takeover mode will also give players the ability to wield Cloud's Buster Sword, which can be used to deflect bullets, dash, and even perform special Limit Breaks.

Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth Is Packed With Tons Of Content--And More Kiryu Than You Might Expect

4 months 1 week ago

Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth's release is right around the corner and we recently got invited to get some early hands-on time with many different parts of the game. Gripping emotional story? Check. Animal Crossing-inspired life sim mode that's going to take up countless hours of my time? Big check. A wild boss battle with a monster shark the size of a boat? You better believe it, fellow crime pals. Infinite Wealth is already my most anticipated game for 2024 so I was excited to dive right in.

Also, a small spoiler warning, there are going to be some story things mentioned in here for the series. Much like Gaiden before it, Infinite Wealth is a game that you should not jump into as your first game in the series as it relies heavily on knowing these characters. With that heads up out of the way, let's talk about Ichiban and Kiryu's Hawaiian adventure.

We began our day sitting down and getting an overview of everything new in Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth. Ichiban and his found family crew are back along with some new faces, including a taxi driver named Eric Tomizawa and a mysterious housekeeper named Chitose Fujinomiya. Ichiban has made the trip to Hawaiii to find his biological mother Akane, who was originally thought to be deceased, but is apparently alive and somewhere on the islands. This revelation sets our adventure in motion and allows Ichiban to come into contact with the legendary yakuza, Kazuma Kiryu.

Larian Investigating "Annoying And Uncool" Xbox Bans For Baldur's Gate 3 Explicit Video Uploads

4 months 1 week ago

Larian Studios is looking into reports that Baldur's Gate 3 players on Xbox have had their accounts banned for uploading nude and explicit media of the game onto Xbox Live, namely the intimate scenes with party members that you've built up romantic relationships with.

"We've seen the reports that some players got banned or otherwise faced issues on Xbox having uploaded screenshots/videos of their 'gameplay content'," said Larian director of publishing Michael Douse on Twitter. "We're in discussion with Microsoft, and we’re looking into it. Annoying and uncool."

While simply recording scenes doesn't get players banned, many Xbox players may have automatic uploads enabled on their consoles, so recording those scenes may accidentally upload them to Xbox Live. Some other players may record and upload these scenes intentionally for the sake of their own gameplay.

It's unclear if and when those banned will be able to play their games online again. However, it looks like Larian is taking action now.

Baldur's Gate 3 is out now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. In GameSpot's Baldur's Gate 3 review, we said, "Baldur's Gate 3 is a sprawling, dense RPG backed by fantastic characters, an excellent combat system, and an impressive co-op mode." Baldur's Gate 3 is also GameSpot's 2023 Game of the Year.

Official Xbox Toaster Announced, Imprints Xbox Logo On Your Bagel

4 months 1 week ago

Following the Xbox mini-fridge comes yet another official Xbox appliance: the Xbox Series S Toaster. This very real product aims to offer its user the "Optimal Carb Experience" with a number of nice-sounding features.

The two-slice toaster is designed to look like an Xbox Series S, and as a neat touch, it also imprints the Xbox sphere logo on your bread product. "It's the next generation toasting console," Microsoft said.

The toaster also has a "shade selector dial" that allows users to toast their goodies to their liking. What's more, the toaster has multiple profiles, so family members or roommates can quickly toast their bread to whatever level of toastiness they want each time without dialing in the settings again. It also has a "countdown timer" so you know when your bread product is done and ready.

"No more breakfast-induced jump scares or trying to spread butter on bread that's already gone cold because you were trying to find a good save point," Microsoft said.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Silent Hill 2 Remake Launching This Year

4 months 1 week ago

PlayStation has released a promotional video highlighting some of the biggest games coming to its console this year. The video hypes both first and third-party releases, many of which already had release dates/windows, but it also casually confirms 2024 launches for two previously un-dated projects.

Specifically, the video labels Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater and Silent Hill 2 as 2024 games. Both games, each a remake of their respective titles, had no launch window prior to today. But the video and the accompanying PlayStation Blog post confirm as much, which is a little surprising to see happen with relatively limited fanfare instead of Konami rolling out individual red carpets for each game's launch update. But if you're looking forward to playing either title, this is welcomed news nonetheless.

Silent Hill 2 was announced in 2022 as a remake of the 2001 classic and is being developed by Bloober Team. The studio recently shared that work on the game was “progressing smoothly”, and it is a PlayStation 5 console exclusive (but will also launch on PC).
