The Sims 4's new Cottage Living expansion is all about the rural life and arrives this month

2 years 10 months ago

What better way to enjoy the summer months than an escape to the countryside for some idyllic cottage living? And what better way to do it without the inconvenience of ever actually having to leave your house than with the Sim's 4's latest expansion?

The Sims 4: Cottage Living, which arrives on 22nd July, is the tenth full-scale Expansion Pack (and 42nd bit of paid DLC) to launch for life sim since its release in 2014, and - as its name very much implies - is all about cosy cottages and rustic charm.

Unsurprisingly, top of the list of features coming in Cottage Living is the ability to settle down in a charmingly rustic new abode. Here, players can befriend the likes of wild rabbits, foxes, and birds, while also raising their own animals - including llamas, chickens, and cows for wool, eggs, and milk respectively - in order to start their journey to self-sufficiency.

The Bioshock series is home to some really creative and beautiful things. Whether it is the environments, the residents, or the supernatural elements that make up its world, it is hard to ignore just how interesting it all is.

Scarlet Nexus Is Anime the Game and I Love It

2 years 10 months ago

The plot in Scarlet Nexus is so out there, over-the-top, and full of anime elements that it’s just begging to be adapted into an actual anime — and that’s exactly what’s happening this month. There are so many unexpected (and at times unbelievable) twists and turns throughout the game that are truly out of this world, and I love that.

Even putting the plot aside, the standard anime tropes are there from the get-go. There’s the childhood friend who likes the protagonist, plenty of friendship power-ups, characters who have lore-related reasons for looking much younger than they actually are, and a villain who threatens to destroy the world but is somehow just a bit misunderstood. And that’s not even the half of it.

BeamNG.drive update adds new maps and cars to the smashing car playground

2 years 10 months ago

BeamNG.drive is, in a way, the Dwarf Fortress of car games. It's a six years and counting early access project determined to simulate every element of wheeled vehicles, where the fun of playing with it feels like a side effect more than a deliberate intention.

But it is fun, and it's just received a massive update that includes new maps, new vehicles, revamped graphics, a traffic light system, and "an improved oil simulation". Heck yeah.

Microsoft Flight Simulator set to receive massive performance boost in next PC update

2 years 10 months ago

Microsoft Flight Simulator is gorgeous but notoriously demanding of PC hardware; however, developer Asobo says it'll be getting a whole lot less demanding when its next Sim Update arrives alongside the game's highly anticipated Xbox Series X/S release on 27th July.

Asobo offered a look the huge performance improvements coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator on PC during its latest developer livestream, with CEO Sebastian Wloch explaining the team has rewritten "a lot of the parts of the engine...in order to get the maximum performance out of the sim", as part of its work on the upcoming console version.

To illustrate just how effective Asobo's engine tweaks have been, Wloch demoed a before-and-after gameplay video featuring a flyover of Manhattan, captured from a PC equipped with an i7-9700K CPU and Nvidia 2060 Super graphics card - and running Flight Simulator at Ultra settings in 4K with a 40% render scale (jump to the 8-minute mark below to see the footage).

New Dying Light 2 Gameplay Trailer Shows Off Both Fast-Paced Parkour and Intense Stealth Sections

2 years 10 months ago

I’ll be honest, I didn’t play Dying Light 1, but we at Twinfinite had plenty of people who did and loved it though. I think I was zombied out back then and overlooked it. But the more I see of Dying Light 2, the more I want to make sure I don’t repeat that mistake. Why did no one just tell me it was Mirror’s Edge with zombies back in 2015?

The latest gameplay trailer released today shows off two distinct styles of play that will be prevalent throughout the game: intense parkour action where you’re making quick movement decisions and nerve-wracking stealth sections as you infiltrate infected areas.

The gameplay trailer takes place during the day. When the sun is out, the infected retreat back into the cover of darkness, making it slightly safer to get around. However, if you need to go somewhere indoors you’re going to have a bad time because that’s where the infected take their power naps before roaming the streets at night.

The characters quickly scale their way into a building, seemingly carefree and confident, but once they reach the interior the script flips. Slow and deliberate movement is required to not startle the sleeping beauties and stay alive. Of course, things go to hell and there’s an escape sequence because it’s a video game and all, but it was nice while it lasted I suppose.

Check out the action for yourself below.

We’ve also seen action that takes place at night, which while still very dangerous, as the nastiest of the nasty come out then, interior areas are less populated and give players a chance to find useful stuff that would otherwise be too dangerous to get to.

Low on Goodwill, Don’t Expect Dragon Age 4 or Mass Effect 4 Any Time Soon From BioWare

2 years 10 months ago

Surprising probably no one, BioWare announced today that they would not be showing anything related to Dragon Age 4 or the next Mass Effect at EA Play 2021. While normally developers and publishers wouldn’t want to go out of their way to reduce the hype for their event, in this case, the move to let some air out of the balloon and not set an impossible bar for themselves is wise.

There’s nothing that EA and BioWare could possibly show that would come remotely close to being as exciting as new Dragon Age 4 and Mass Effect content. They know that, and so do the fans.

Dragon Age and Mass Effect just suck all of the air out of the room because of their immense popularity and dedicated fan bases, and there’s no room for anything else to breathe.

But that’s not the only reason people are so eager to see what is going on with those franchises. They are popular and have been for decades, yet EA and BioWare don’t feel the need to let people know ahead of time what to expect before every event they throw.

Part of the reason is that the gaming community is morbidly waiting to see if BioWare is even capable of putting out another big hit. It’s not a stretch to say that the last great BioWare game was Dragon Age: Inquisition which released way back in 2014. Since then, BioWare has put out Mass Effect: Andromeda which launched with a number of issues, and was received a lukewarm (at best) reception and is widely considered to be the black sheep of that franchise.

And, of course, they launched the ill-fated Anthem. Designed to be a long-running live-service game, Anthem was dead on arrival thanks to major issues with its gameplay and end game and has since been abandoned.

Deliver packages with wobbly vehicles you design in Mars First Logistics

2 years 10 months ago

The last game I played by Ian MacLarty was the shifting magic eye maze Catacombs Of Solaris, so I was surprised to learn that his next game is Mars First Logistics, a physics-based, open world simulation about designing your own vehicles to ship cargo across the red planet.

Not an unwelcome surprise. Find the announcement trailer below.
