Muv-Luv’s New Game Project Immortal Coming in 2021; First Official Trailer Released

During a livestream from Japan, Muv-Luv developer âge revealed the first look at the new game code-named Project Immortal.

Today we learn that Project Immortal is coming in 2021. While it’s going to be a game-as-a-service, it’s going to feature offline support, which means that we’ll be able to play it even when service ends.

While the game is coming for sure to iOS and Android, Steam is probable, and browsers are a possibility. The developers would also like to release on consoles.

Project Immortal’s Creator “Kitakuo” would like to have a publicly playable benchmark version to test the battle portion of the game by October.

The game is an action RPG that was presented as a fan project at the “Still Breathing”anniversary  event a few months ago. Then âge decided to hire its developer and turn it into an official Muv-Luv project.

During the trailer we see a few familiar characters including Meiya Mitsurugi from the original trilogy, Ilfriede von Feulner from Muv-Luv Alternative Chronicles Adoration, and Daryl A. McManus from Unlimited The Day After, and Eiji Iwaya from Total Eclipse. Four-player co-op was also showcased.

Below you can see a recording of the trailer. Unfortunately, the quality of the stream was really bad, but we’ll update it with the official upload as soon as it’s available. This should be enough to see the features and visual quality.

The story of Your Sinclair

By the early 90s, the ZX Spectrum appeared hopelessly outdated. The Commodore Amiga and Atari ST were appreciably better computer alternatives, while those with a pure penchant for video games would shortly be able to get their hands on a Super Nintendo Entertainment System, if they hadn't already invested in a Sega Mega Drive. In terms of graphics and sound, all of them were ridiculously better than the Sinclair machine. I wasn't really playing on my 128k +2 Speccy much as I looked on enviously at Mega Drive screenshots of Strider and Golden Axe; but what I was still doing was consistently reading Your Sinclair each month, often to the scorn of friends and family. "Why are you still reading that?!" they would clamour. "Because," I'd reply with a tone of calculated indifference, "It's funny."

Your Sinclair began life as Your Spectrum, and it wasn't just the name that was different - practically everything inside was, too. "It was a long time ago, and Dennis Publishing was a very different company - actually called Bunch Books at the time," says Roger Munford, launch editor of Your Spectrum back in 1984. As with its peer, Sinclair User, Your Spectrum focused on many of the serious aspects of computing, with gaming taking its place among features on programming, hardware and the business uses of the Sinclair microcomputer. The aforementioned rival, not to mention Newsfield's Crash, helped instigate the change to the magazine ZX Spectrum fans know and love today. "The Spectrum was no longer the focus of all that Sinclair were doing," continues Munford. "They had launched the QL, and also that silly electric car. The title change was more hoping that Sinclair was going to be like Apple, and also to pit the magazine more clearly against EMAP, which had the clear winner in the field."

Destiny 2 players are time-travelling through Tower glitches

There’s something delightfully in-fiction that, isn’t there? A rogue band of Destiny 2‘s space knights breaking through the physical boundaries of their home to discover an alternate space, unlocked from time? You could’ve plucked that straight out of the Grimoire. But these Guardians are very much real, a set of curious players who, through a glitch in the Tower’s geometry, may have caught a sneaky look at this season’s climax.

The Sunday Papers

Sundays are mainly for videogames, nowadays, aren’t they? Don’t worry, you can spice things up by reading the best writing about them from the past week.

For Kotaku, Siddhartha Bajracharya wrote about his experiences working as a doctor during the current crisis, and the strangeness of devoting his evenings to The Division 2. It’s a heavy read, but packed with valuable insight into what life is like for those working inside hospitals.

Muv-Luv Alternative Anime First Trailer Finally Revealed; Shows Takemikazuchi in Awesome Action

During a livestream from Japan, Muv-Luv developer âge revealed the first teaser trailer of the upcoming Muv-Luv Alternative anime series.

The trailer was showcased behind closed doors at the end of the “Still Breathing”anniversary  event a few months ago, but it was never publicly broadcasted.

We get to see a Type-00F Takemikazuchi mecha as it flies over a horde of BETA aliens while leading a squad of Type-00A.

It looks absolutely awesome despite the fact that the frame rate of the livestream was really choppy. we’ll update it with the official upload as soon as it’s available.

This should be enough for a first look, but having seen the original in action when I visited âge in January, I can tell you that it’s even better when the frame rate is smooth.

Do keep in mind that this was created as a proof of concept and it’s not necessarily representative of the final anime. This video was never intended for public showing, and the developer decided to finally reveal it to express their gratitude to the fans for their support (and about 8,000 retweets on Twitter).

Unfortunately, it’ll be a while longer before we get to see more.

If you’re interested in the Muv-Luv anime, you should definitely read our interview with creator Kouki Yoshimune-san and Producer Kazutoshi Matsumura  who talked in-depth about what we can expect from the animation itself and the future games coming for the franchise.

Half-Life: Alyx's only melon can't be eaten without cheats

Hard to imagine worse things to eat while in VR. Do you really want sticky fingers clutching your index controllers, melon juice splashing over your expensive electronics? It’s probably for the best, then, that the one watermelon in Half-Life: Alyx is impossible to find in normal play – a sweet, tantalising snack tucked away only for those brave enough to break out the cheats.

Hackers may have been behind those devastating The Last of Us Part 2 leaks

A new report intimates The Last of Us Part 2 was allegedly leaked by hackers who'd infiltrated Naughty Dog's private servers.

In a brief summary on Twitter, Bloomberg's Jason Schreier reported that after talking to people "with direct knowledge" of the incident, a security vulnerability opened a back door into ND's servers and intimated that the spoilerific footage likely originates from "an early build".

"OK: After talking to two people with direct knowledge of how TLOU2 leaked as well as some Naughty Dog employees, I have a good idea of what happened," Schreier tweeted earlier today. "Short version: hackers found a security vulnerability in a patch for an older ND game and used it to get access to ND's servers.

Pixel Ripped 1995 is a VR love letter to gaming times gone by

Although my first experiences with video games revolved around 128k machines and their lovely, rattly cassette tapes, it's the 16-bit era of gaming that I remember most fondly.

Late nights spent trying to sneak in a level or two of Super Probotector without my parents hearing. Four friends huddled around an Amiga playing Hired Guns. Trips to the shopping center where I'd stare longingly at the video game demos on display in the local branch of Dixons. These are all memories that came flooding back to me as I played through the first hour of Pixel Ripped 1995 for this week's episode of Ian's VR Corner.

You can watch me take a trip back to 1995 using the Oculus Rift S as some kind of makeshift time-travel device in the video below, where I give you my usual, nonsensical first impressions of the game.

It looks like text messaging is finally coming to Google Stadia

It looks like text messaging might be on its way to Google Stadia.

As reported by 9to5Google (thanks, VG24/7), the latest update to Google's streaming platform, Stadia, includes references to a number of key social features. After trawling through the latest update to the Stadia app, version 2.16, 9to5's APK Insight team believe they've uncovered the following:

If accurate, this means Stadia players will finally be able to communicate via the Stadia app on their smart devices without having to use the system's built-in oral voice chat. And while it's unclear what "ChatMessages" pertains to - direct voice mail, or another term for text messaging perhaps? - it looks like there'll be more options for Stadia players to connect with each other.

Japanese households offered Super Famicoms to encourage kids to stay home

[Photo credit: Japan Retro Gaming Association]

Japan is currently in a State of Emergency. With no end currently in sight for the ongoing COVID-19/coronavirus pandemic, some young children are getting understandably restless at being kept indoors all day, every day. But the Japan Retro Gaming Association is trying to help ease the boredom felt by youngsters with a dose of old-school gaming goodness.

JARGA has refurbished 100 beat-up Super Famicom consoles, and has been donating them to households across the country to help keep the little 'uns occupied. Provided the house has a child under the age of 16, and is willing to cover shipping costs, then JARGA will send out a Super Famicom, along with a selection of loose carts, free of charge.

It's a simple but wonderful idea, and not only provides less well-off parents and their children with a little bit of joy and entertainment in some difficult times, but it also gives these aging units a new lease of life, whereas many would leave them for scrap. Good work JARGA, and bless the indestructible SNES.

"I just played three rounds without earning any XP for my character or my battle pass. Are you serious about this?" complained one player (thanks, Dexerto). "I pay for the battle pass and you give me nothing and a buggy game in return?"

Azur Lane Getting New French Shipgirl While English Servers Play Catch-Up With Missing Skins

Yostar is continuing to reveal more content coming to its popular shipgirl-focused mobile game Azur Lane.

First of all, we get to see a new “French” shipgirl, Vauquelin-class destroyer Tartu from the Vochiya Dominion faction.

The Vauquelin class was classified as “large” destroyers (the French liked their destroyers bigger in the thirties), which means that Tartu is represented in Azur Lane with a design that is certainly uncommon among most destroyers.

At the moment of this writing, she has only been confirmed for the Japanese and Chinese servers, so we’ll have to see if we’ll get her on the English servers as well, or if she’ll be involved by the recently-announced divergence from the Asian servers to make room for a major rerun.

In that case, she’d be the third French shipgirl we’re missing following Le Malin and L’Opiniâtre. We’ll have to wait and see.

Fate/Grand Order Getting Cute MoonCancer Figure by Aquamarine

Fate/Grand Order’s enormous popularity among mobile game fans means that seeing new figures very often is more the norm than the exception.

This time around we’re getting something slightly different than the usual servants, as Aquamarine revealed an upcoming figure portrating MoonCancer (or BB, if you prefer that name) in her second stage outfit.

She’s available for pre-order on Ami Ami for 20,680 yen, which translates roughly into $193.

This one doesn’t have a crazy lead time into 2021 like those we saw yesterday, and she has a more reasonable release window of December 2020.

The scale is the usual 1/7 for 225 mm in height. The prototype is sculpted by Yoshi and painted by Graham Mask.

“From “Fate/Grand Order” comes “MoonCancer/BB (2nd Ascension)”. BB is wearing a showy swimsuit that was available in the game’s event “Servant Summer Festival!” for this figure.

The bodyline gives the figure full marks for appeal!
The star accessory and ribbon show up wonderfully against the light brown skin. Even the belt covered in stars is carefully sculpted in fine detail.

The smooth flowing hair is recreated using paint on clear materials.
The ends of the hair are expressed with a beautiful paint gradation.

Enjoy this figure of the punkish and stimulating BB in a swimsuit to your hearts content by adding it to your collection.”

You can check out what she looks like in the gallery below.

Swallow The Sea is a short free tale of birth, hunger, and gnawing teeth

The sea’s a pretty messed up place, ain’t it? A vast, practically-bottom expanse of mother nature’s weirdest and deadliest experiments, piled in together and told to work it all out themselves. A short, pay-what-you-want release from devs Maceo Bob Mair and Nicolás Delgado, Swallow The Sea (available on Itch) captures that horror by following a hapless bundle of eggs just trying its best to be born.

Vs. Wrecking Crew is this latest Arcade Archives release

For this week's Arcade Archives release, publisher Hamster are sneakily putting out another "Vs." title, (essentially slightly modified NES games made available in coin-op form).  This time it's the turn of block-busting platformer Wrecking Crew.

Released for the NES back in 1985, Wrecking Crew sees players in the roles of two construction workers, (invariably Mario and Luigi in some territories), as they smash their way through 100 levels of demolition action. Players must use forward-thinking to plan their route through each stage, being careful not to paint themselves into a corner. Our heroes must also watch out for various hazards, such as fireballs and an angry site foreman who chases the mallet-wielding duo throughout the stage. Never send a plumber to do a builder's job.

You can check out a video of the game in action below, courtesy of YouTuber Old Classic Retro Gaming. Vs.Wrecking Crew is available to download now on Nintendo Switch, priced at around $8.

Rockstar will give you $500K of in-game currency if you play GTA Online any time in May

If you're still spending a lot of time in Grand Theft Auto 5 Online - or you're a lapsed player looking for an excuse to jump back in, of course - I have good news. Rockstar is giving away half a million in-game currency to all players. For free.

The catch? There isn't one. All you have to do is log in and play sometime between now and the end of May. All players that do so will get a cool $500,000 delivered into their Maze account within seven days. Nice, eh?

Of course, the hard part comes next - deciding what to spend it on. Rockstar has some ideas to help with that, too; there's a heap of savings to be had, including 40 per cent off nightclubs, 40 per cent off the B-11 Strikeforce, 35 per cent off the Pegassi Oppressor, and a decent 60 per cent off the Declasse Hotring Sabre (thanks, Comic Book). There are also triple awards on business battles right now, too.

Star Wars Returns To Fortnite, But Not For Long

A day before the official celebration begins on May 4, Fortnite has brought back Star Wars goodies. Only available for a limited time, they include lightsabers from some of the franchise's biggest characters as well as outfits, emotes, and more.

Four different lightsabers are currently available in the game's item shop. These include Rey and Obi-Wan's blue lightsaber, Luke's green saber, Mace Windu's purple saber, and Kylo Ren's special red lightsaber, complete with its unique crossguard.

A "dark side" emote is available now for 200 V-Bucks, as are skins for Kylo Ren, a red Sith Trooper, and Rey. Though they won't give you any competitive advantage in battle royale, looking that cool may boost your confidence enough to increase your performance.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Will Get Duos, But There Are Still Issues

Call of Duty: Warzone has most of the features players have come to expect from battle royale games, including a high player limit and different party sizes, but Duos mode has been mysteriously absent so far from the game's flagship mode. That is going to change in the future, but the game's development team has encountered issues that have delayed its rollout.

Speaking to French publication GamerGen (via VGC), Raven Software creative director Amos Hodge explained that there are still bugs that need to be ironed out before it can be implemented into battle royale. He also wants to ensure that the timing is right for the mode and that players are interested in playing new content while building on what was there before.

This includes identifying the most popular modes, which will remain in the game as others are swapped in and out. It's this strategy that Warzone's developers are still adjusting, as players have reacted negatively when certain modes, like Trios, have been removed from the game several times. In response, they've been added back in, but too many options could split up the player-base.

Unhappy Xbox player files lawsuit against Microsoft for "stick drift" claims

Microsoft has been hit with a class-action lawsuit that claims it's Xbox One controllers - like Nintendo's Joy-Cons - suffer from "stick drift".

As reported by VGC, the class-action complaint - which was filed on 28th April in Washington by Donald McFadden - maintains that customers paying to repair their controllers after the 90-day warranty expires are allegedly paying to repair a known fault.

McFadden alleges that his Xbox Elite controller - which retails for $180/£160 - demonstrated "drift" within a "short time", as did his replacement controller "three or four months later". In some cases, it's alleged controller movements are even registered when the sticks are stationary and no-one is touching them.

White Album 2 Gets Lovely Setsuna & Kazusa Figures by Myethos

The White Album series is quite popular among visual novel fans, and Myethos has made two new figures available for pre-order.

The figures portray heroines Setsuna Ogiso and Kazusa Touma wearing lovely wedding dresses. They can be pre-ordered at Japanese retailers like Ami Ami for 14,600 yen each. That translates into approximately $137.

Both will be released at the same time in December 2020.

The scale is 1/7 and while Setsuna is only 125 mm tall due to her position, Kazusa stands at 240 mm tall. Both prototypes were sculpted by Nijah.

“From the long-loved visual novel series “White Album 2″ comes a scale figure of Setsuna Ogiso. Setsuna has been recreated in a wedding dress based on an illustration by character designer and illustrator Takeshi Nakamura. Setsuna’s dress and the flower petals gently scattered on top further enhance her captivating beauty. Be sure to add her to your collection.”
