Xbox follows PlayStation's lead with no-questions-asked refunds of Cyberpunk 2077

3 years 3 months ago

Late last night, Sony made a massive unprecedented business decision. It pulled the trigger on offering full refunds for anyone who bought Cyberpunk 2077 through the PlayStation Store. That might happen with some low-profile indies, but it doesn't happen to games that are as globally popular and drive as much revenue as Cyberpunk 2077.

You had to think Microsoft would follow suit in due time. Sure enough, Microsoft announced this morning that it's also issuing no-questions-asked refunds for anyone who bought Cyberpunk 2077 through the Microsoft Store.

Bethesda recalls all its 2020 Fallout 76 accomplishments and improvements

3 years 3 months ago

Fallout 76 has been through a lot. A rocky launch. A complete 180 on whether or not game-impacting items would be sold as DLC. Bugs. More rocky update launches.

But in 2020, it made a ton of strides to feel less like a wasteland: in the mechanical sense. It's supposed to be a wasteland. Wastelanders added actual NPCs to the game, which made it feel ever so closer to an actual Fallout title. Then came the Steel Dawn update, which made the world feel even livelier.

Bethesda is reminiscing about this year too on their official blog, providing a "2020 in review" rundown of all they've accomplished. It's a lot! From the early 2020 testing periods to further save the game from its late 2018 launch state, to the two aforementioned expansion launches, to the inclusion of the seasonal system.

So what's next? As previously stated, quality of life updates in early 2021. But Bethesda also shared that there's some seasonal events coming in February, and season four is slated for a March 2021 release. You can also find that tease in image form in the gallery below.

You can also check out the infographic below, which showcases a lot of useless marketing stats among a few cool tidbits. The "top five most popular quests/events" is particularly important, as the high ratings for those could inform future quest design for Fallout 76, or subsequent Fallout games.

Super Baby Vegeta 2 is headed to Dragon Ball FighterZ this winter

3 years 3 months ago

Bandai Namco's Dragon Ball FighterZ has proven itself one of the most enduring fighting titles of the last generation. To date, DBFZ has shifted over six million physical and digital units since its release in January 2018, while retaining a strong and engaged global community of players, despite fierce competition from a string of great fighting titles.

And the slick anime scrapper isn't done yet, as developer Arc System Works has revealed (via Famitsu) that it has more content and characters in store for DBFZ across 2021. The next fighter to join the sky-fighting roster will be Dragon Ball GT antagonist Super Baby 2, an inadvertent fusion of the malicious Baby and Dragon Ball protagonist Vegeta, blending the power of mankind with the latter's Saiyan strength. He could take your dad, is what I'm saying. Super Baby 2 will arrive as part of FighterZ Pass 3 sometime this winter.

In celebration of the series' ongoing success, all DBFZ players can expect a few free goodies in the near future, including Gogeta SSGSS and Bardock (Super Saiyan) lobby avatars, and a new color variation for Vegeta in his non-mega-baby form.

Among Us is coming to Xbox next year

3 years 3 months ago

Hot on the heels of the news that Among Us is now on Nintendo Switch, another console has joined the murder party, as the game has now been announced for Xbox - and will be available on Game Pass when it launches. Oh, and if you have Xbox Game Pass for PC, you can grab Among Us for free right about... now.

The social deduction game is due to arrive on Xbox consoles sometime in 2021, although an exact date for the launch has not yet been announced. As detailed in the Xbox announcement post, it's already available if you have Xbox Game Pass for PC, so you can jump in straight away.

Among Us launched two years ago on mobile devices and PC, but it was only this year that the game took off in a big way - assumedly because people were looking for something more interesting to do on all those lockdown Zoom calls. Other than asking what you'd been up to while stuck indoors for several months.

Xbox Series X was in stock at five Amazon locales

3 years 3 months ago

Update: Now out of stock everywhere, apologies! You may also find the information on how to order from different Amazon locales useful, so check out the article below.

The Xbox Series X has been incredibly hard to find since it first went on pre-order, with stock often being exhausted within seconds of appearing online. Now, Amazon locales across Europe had a decent amount of stock of the console, with the machine being available for order for a period of around 20 minutes - an eternity in the context of bots and scalpers that have been able to secure entire inventories in a matter of seconds.

Here's the full list of Series X links in different Amazon regions, for future reference.

PS5 DualSense Wireless Controllers are £5 less on Currys/PC World

3 years 3 months ago

For the few of you who managed to find PS5 console stock and buy one successfully, there's good news. The special PS5 DualSense controller is now reduced in price by £5 if you buy one with a special code. Not a huge discount, but if you were planning on getting a spare controller for some split-screen gaming, this could be a decent moment to do so. Cutting edge tech like this isn't likely to be cheaper for a long time.

The new DualSense controller has been a big selling point for Sony - the adaptive triggers and nuanced haptic feedback are designed to be as immersive as possible. There's also a built-in microphone, touch pad, and a fairly decent battery life to boot, considering all the hardware that's crammed into it. You can check out the full details of what you need to know here.

Normally these controllers are sold from Currys/PC World for £60, but you can reduce the cost to £55 by entering the code GAMINGFNDD at checkout.

Ruin the day as a cardboard cloud in Rain on Your Parade

3 years 3 months ago

Every once in a while, a game trailer will come across my path that grabs me by the neck and doesn't let go. Untitled Goose Game did that, Gnosia did that, and last night, the trailer for Rain on Your Parade did it as well. From developer Unbound Creations, this asshole cloud simulator lets you channel your inner Gi as you soak your way through various puzzle stages in search of the fabled land of Seattle.

When I saw this game pop up on my Twitter feed, I knew I had to give it a try. A demo is available for download right now on Steam, and it offers a sampling of the different puzzle concepts players will encounter in the final game. Stages come in a variety of sizes with their own unique objectives. Small stages will ask you to do one or two tasks, such as ruin a wedding by soaking the bride and groom and all their guests, or protect a bomb by soaking those who would defuse it. Larger stages can put more on your plate, forcing you to search every nook and cranny to complete the checklist. Hands down, my favorite stage is a city-block location that lets me go HAM until the time limit runs out.

Dicebreaker Recommends: Monikers, a hilarious party game that's perfect for holidays at home

3 years 3 months ago

Dicebreaker Recommends is a series of monthly board game, RPG and other tabletop recommendations from our friends at our sibling site, Dicebreaker.

This time of year is usually synonymous with board games, as everyone gathers round to make noise and get silly with some classic party favourites. However, there's no denying that the festive season is going to be a little different this year. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, many people won't be seeing their friends and family in the flesh in the coming weeks. Obviously, this is going to make playing board games rather difficult. Nevertheless, this doesn't mean people can't find other ways to make merry with a hilarity-inducing bit of social gaming this December.

Thanks to the availability of video streaming software like Zoom and Google Meet, players have been finding ways of connecting with their loved ones for some tabletop fun all year. Whilst some games are more easily adapted to be played over webcam than others - I certainly wouldn't recommend trying Jenga - party games are one of the better choices when it comes to playing online. The simplicity of their rules and the focus on social interaction makes many a perfect fit for video calls, but none more so than Monikers.

Can Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and Xbox One be saved? It's the Eurogamer next-gen news cast!

3 years 3 months ago

As we inch closer to booting 2020 out the door, next-gen video game news continues its never-ending outpour. This was a week dominated by Cyberpunk 2077 and what is sure to go down as one of the most disastrous triple-A launches ever.

Not long after it emerged the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of CD Projekt's sci-fi epic were in a terrible state did reports come in that some had found success nabbing a refund. CD Projekt was then forced to apologise for not showing Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and Xbox One before launch and, in the same breath, suggested anyone who wanted a refund would be able to get one without bother. It turns out Sony, Microsoft and the shops didn't get the memo.

Its reputation in tatters and its share price tanking, CD Projekt held an emergency investor relations call in which the bosses of the company vowed to "rebuild trust". Updates, patches and fixes are inbound, CD Projekt said. Just give the studio time to make things right.

Dan Hibiki will rock the Street Fighter V roster in February

3 years 3 months ago

Capcom's Shuhei Matsumoto released a state-of-play video message yesterday, in which the Street Fighter V producer announced that DLC character Dan Hibiki will join the SFV roster in February 2021.

The goofy Saikyo-style practitioner is the first of what is expected to be SFV's fifth and final season of content, with Street Fighter veterans Rose and Oro, Rival Schools' Akira, and an as-yet-unrevealed character also joining the fight as 2021 progresses. The timing of Dan's release date reveal coincides with what would have been The Capcom Cup, had this year's Pro-Tour not been canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

In the video, Matsumoto - who steps into the role of Street Fighter producer following the departure of Yoshinori Ono - spoke of the difficulties the team has encountered working during the pandemic, but noted that all work on Street Fighter V's twilight year will continue to a high standard befitting the brand.

The 9 worst neighbourhoods in PC games

3 years 3 months ago

A strange, white-faced citizen from Pathologic backs away from the player character, their hands raised defensively.

Many of you are by now bathing in twinkling neon ravelights and swooning into the metal arms of Cyberpunk 2077‘s humourless unhunks, who stalk the streets of Night City like animatronic pizza restaurant mascots gone feral. That is fine. There are worse places to find oneself in the labyrinthine hell of video games. Places such as these. Here are 9 neighbourhoods you wouldn’t want to bring up your children in.

You can now buy Spider-Man Remastered separately on PS5

3 years 3 months ago

Spider-Man Remastered has been one of the most confusing remaster rollouts in recent memory.

First, Sony muddled its messaging (along with what Miles Morales was), not making it clear whether or not a remaster was coming alongside of Miles Morales. Then, it wasn't getting save exports...until it did. Now, the remaster has suddenly appeared as a full separate download on the PSN: a month after launch. Go figure!

Here it is! For $39.99, you can get the remaster on its own, with its enhanced visuals/load times, and adaptive trigger/haptic feedback controls. Or, you can still opt for the Ultimate Edition of Miles Morales for $69.99, which comes with the remaster as-is. Note that Miles is $49.99 as a standalone download.

Both are worth playing on their own merits, and are interconnected. Remastered offers a lead-in to Miles Morales' story and a bit of background; but you wouldn't be completely lost if you just head into the second release.

3 years 3 months ago

Last week saw the coming of that menagerie of adverts, prizes, recognition, and more adverts, The Games Awards. And it appears that the 2020 iteration of Geoff Keighley's annual shindig was more than a little successful, having drawn the eyes of 8.3 million viewers worldwide.

This incredible viewing figure -proudly tweeted yesterday by Keighley himself - represents a viewership increase of 83% over last year's event... and that's without a Fast & Furious game reveal. Two Russian dolls from Stacking having a conversation

In Stacking, you’re too small to do what you need to do. You can often be two or three people too small. To solve the game’s puzzles, you’re forced to assume the identities of some bigger people by donning their wooden skin. It sounds a little like a Castor Troy wet dream, but it’s much sweeter than anything that fella thinks of when he goes to bed.

3 years 3 months ago

D3 Publisher released a brand new trailer of its upcoming action game Earth Defense Force: World Brothers.

Unlike the original “EDF” series, which are drawn in a photo-realistic world, this game is boldly drawn in a voxel world! Nintendo revealed that Sephiroth is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate last week and just today the team showed off more of what he brings to the fighting game. No, his shirtless varient is a gift because of the memes.

Many took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the latest revelation about Sephiroth in Smash Bros. Ultimate, and while I won't share my own due to some not-so-safe-for-work language, I can at least share some of the others that made me smile:

Diablo Immortal Is Running A Technical Alpha In Australia

3 years 3 months ago

Select members of the public are now able to get their hands on a preview of Diablo Immortal, the mobile spin-off of Blizzard's popular Diablo series. The technical alpha is limited to Australian players who pre-registered for testing through the Google Play store. Spots in the alpha will be assigned based on how early players signed up, provided their devices meet the minimum requirements.

The purpose of the technical alpha is to test server stability and game performance across a wider range of devices, but also for Blizzard to get wider feedback on the way the game plays. Blizzard is anticipating a few thousand players will participate in the alpha, which will run for a few weeks as the team collects data from players.

Despite being a mobile spin-off, Diablo Immortal still intends to tell a story within the universe, with its narrative sitting in between Diablo 2 and Diablo 3. While the game will launch with six playable classes--Barbarian, Demon Hunter, Monk, Wizard, Crusader, and Necromancer--the technical alpha will only include four of these, with the other two not quite ready for public play.

Nintendo Direct Announced Featuring Super Nintendo World Theme Park

3 years 3 months ago

Today Nintendo announced a new Nintendo Direct, but this one isn’t going to be about games, at least not directly. No pun intended.

The broadcast will air on December 18 at 3:00 pm PST or 6:00 pm EST.

It will focus on the massively-anticipated theme park attraction Super Nintendo World that will soon open in Japan.

You can find the video embedded today so you can watch along as it airs tomorrow.

Super Nintendo World was announced all the way back in 2016 and was supposed to open in time for the 2020 Olympics. Unfortunately, the COVID pandemic threw a wrench into Nintendo and Universal Studios Japan’s plans.

Recently, Universal Studios Japan announced that it will open on Thursday, February 4.

That being said, I guess they’re still making that deadline, considering that the Tokyo Olympic games have also been delayed to 2021.

Super Nintendo World Direct Announced for December 18

3 years 3 months ago
Nintendo has announced that a roughly 15-minue Super Nintendo World Direct will take place on December 18 at 3pm PT/6pm ET/11pm GMT that will show more of Universal Studios Japan's newest theme park area. Nintendo also was careful to mention that "no game content will be featured," so it looks to only show more of the much-anticipated theme park area that is set to open to the public on February 4, 2021. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/30/super-nintendo-world-reveal-trailer"] IGN Japan and other members of the press were able to get a sneak peak at Super Nintendo World last month, and got a glimpse of Bowser's Castle and where guests will line up for the Mario Kart: Koopa's Challenge ride. The Mario Kart-themed ride will put visitors in the driving seat and includes AR and projection mapping to bring the beloved action of the Mario Kart series to life, all through the help of a wearable Mario's hat that has a built-in AR screen. Super Nintendo World was set to open ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Summer 2020, but it was postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

PSA: If You Value Your Eddies, Avoid Cyberpunk 2077’s Sweet Dreams Side Quest

3 years 3 months ago

Despite its current issues, there is no denying that Cyberpunk 2077 boasts an impressive amount of story content. From mainline missions to side jobs to gigs, there is so much to do storywise and so many different ways to play each one of them.

Whether you’re in it for the dialogue, overall narrative, or even just the gear and rewards you get for completing them, there are very few quests in Cyberpunk 2077 we don’t recommend you try at least once. The side job known as Sweet Dreams is the main exception to this rule, as we advise you downright avoid it altogether.

Sweet Dreams starts out as one of the random side jobs you can stumble across when traversing Night City. To be exact, you’ll find it right outside of the No-Tell Motel.

You’re only objective is to meet up with a mysterious client. Arriving at the hotel brings you face to face with Stefan, a black market braindance dealer offering you a virtu so good that it’ll make you “transcend.”

The catch is that he requires 16,000 eddies to get your hands on this once in a lifetime experience. The fact that you can’t talk him down off this should be the first red flag.

The second is that you need to shill out another 4,000 eddies for the equipment if you don’t have high enough skill. If you do end up paying Stefan, all it gets you is a one-way ticket to an ice bath. Congratulations, you got conned.
