Destiny 2 PSA: Save Your Iron Banner Bounties, They're Currently Bugged

2 years 11 months ago

Destiny 2's first Iron Banner event of the Season of the Splicer is here, adding four new weapons to the game's loot pool. But while you can earn those guns in specific ways, two of them are currently not dropping properly when you complete Iron Banner bounties or spend Iron Banner tokens. If you're looking to pick up either Riiswalker or Archon's Thunder, hold onto your stuff for a bit.

Bungie tweeted about the issue soon after the start of the new Iron Banner event on Tuesday, May 18, and soon after that released an in-game warning to keep players from spending their tokens or turning in their bounties. The developer hasn't released any information on when players can expect a fix.

You Can Vote For Pokemon Sword And Shield's Next Freebie

2 years 11 months ago

The Pokemon Company is giving players a chance to vote for Pokemon Sword and Shield's next freebie. Until May 20, the company is holding a poll on Twitter asking the community what item they would like distributed during the Pokemon Players Cup IV finals, which will take place later this summer.

The poll features four options: PP Max, Focus Sash, Lucky Egg, and Gold Bottle Cap. PP Max and Gold Bottle Cap are both used outside of battle. The former increases a move's PP, while the latter can be spent at the Battle Tower to Hyper Train a Pokemon.

The Focus Sash and Lucky Egg, on the other hand, are held items. Focus Sash will let a Pokemon withstand what would have been a one-hit KO with one HP left, while the Lucky Egg increases the amount of experience points a Pokemon gains when it's holding the item.

Destiny 2 Iron-Handed Diplomacy Guide: How To Complete The Iron Banner Quest Fast

2 years 11 months ago

The first Iron Banner of the Season of the Splicer has arrived in Destiny 2, bringing a new multi-step quest for unlocking Iron Banner armor and weapons. Iron-Handed Diplomacy carries six steps, each one focusing on a different weapon, so you'll need to show some versatility to complete the quest. You have all season (and multiple Iron Banner events) to finish Iron-Handed Diplomacy, but if you're hoping to get it done ASAP, we're here to help.

Iron Banner in the Season of the Splicer brings back some rewards from Destiny 2's past, including Finite Impactor and Occluded Finality, two Iron Banner guns we haven't seen in quite some time. You'll also claim two new, Eliksni-themed guns, the Riiswalker auto rifle and Archon's Thunder machine gun. As of this writing, however, you can only earn those two rewards from Iron Banner bounties--so make sure you save your Iron Banner tokens for the time being, if you're hoping for new rolls on those two guns.

One thing to know about Iron Banner quests is that while they contain a lot of steps and requirements, the good news is that many elements of each step will carry forward to future ones. So even though one step might require you to capture 10 Control zones and the next will ask for 20, the first 10 will count toward the next step. That helps keep things pretty manageable, but regardless, expect to do some grinding to get all your Iron Banner gear.

2K's NFL Arcade Game Delayed Past March 2022

2 years 11 months ago
2K's upcoming NFL arcade game has been delayed. Originally set to release this year, 2K announced that its upcoming untitled NFL arcade game has been pushed out of fiscal year 2022. This places the game's release date to beyond March of next year. "While we are very excited to once again be working with the NFL and NFLPA, our first title under these new partnerships is no longer expected to be released during fiscal year 2022," a statement from 2K reads. "2K will have more to share on their plans for our football offerings going forward." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/03/10/nfl-2k-isnt-really-coming-back-ign-now"] This news comes by way of publisher Take-Two Interactive's full-year financial results that were released today. These results revealed that the publisher has plans to release a total of 21 games between now and the end of its fiscal year in March 2022. None of those 21 games are likely to be Grand Theft Auto 6, nor will they be 2K's first foray back into NFL games in years. When 2K's NFL arcade game was announced as in development, the company said it will be working on "non-simulation football game experiences," meaning the games will not be like EA's Madden football games, which has the simulation football video game experience cornered quite well. When this 2K NFL arcade game releases presumably next year, it will be the first time in well over a decade that anyone but EA has released an NFL football video game.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint's Next Update Will Make Your Teammates Suck Less

2 years 11 months ago

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint is getting an update very soon, and it's focused on improving on the experience of playing with AI-controlled squadmates. As part of the game's title update 4.0.0, developer Ubisoft is changing the way that the game's AI systems work in order to give players more freedom to customize their teammates.

This AI Teammate Experience update will give the game an all-new progression loop, where players can level up their teammates. Additionally, the collective level of your crew will be measured by a new collective Team Level, which will level up as the Team XP bar increases. You can earn more Team XP by completing challenges.

As you level up your teammates, you can customize their loadouts with active and passive abilities. Additionally, you'll be able to select which teammates you want to take with you on each mission. For more information on what's coming to Breakpoint, check out Ubisoft's roadmap for the game on their website. Ghost Recon's last major update, 3.0, came out in late 2020, and it added many more customization options, as well as adding new missions to the game.

Breakpoint has received many updates over the last year, after a messy launch that saw players cry foul over missing modes and broken promises. However, many of those issues have been resolved.

Apex Legends boosting esports prize pool via skin sales

2 years 11 months ago

I often find myself bemused by people who buy in-game skins, stickers and tchotchkes for free-to-play multiplayer games. Then I remember that collecting football stickers is the most fun I've ever had by spending money.

For my pocket money placed into Panini's pockets, I got a completed World Cup '94 sticker book. For buying one of four new bundles of items for Apex Legends, you'll now help fund the ALGS Championship prize pool up to $3 million.

New Overwatch Skins For Heroes Of The Storm Turn Blizzard Icons Into Cosplayers

2 years 11 months ago

Blizzard's MOBA Heroes of the Storm just received a new Overwatch cosplay event, turning iconic Blizzard characters like Starcraft's Jim Raynor into Soldier 76.

Skins for the event also include a Roadhog skin for World of Warcraft's Stitches, a Reaper skin for Diablo's demon hunter Valla, and a Reinhardt skin for the Diablo crusader Johanna.

Alongside the new skins come a large number of hero reworks, adjusting the various abilities and talents for all the same characters receiving skins, along with updates to characters like D.VA, Mei, Anduin and the game's newest addition, Hogger.

Blizzard has largely put Heroes of the Storm on the backburner since 2018, when the developer shifted resources away from the game and canceled its esports program. A blog post announcing the change told players that Heroes of the Storm would "remain a love letter to Blizzard's worlds and characters," but that the "cadence" of new content for the game would change.

GTA 6 Unlikely This Year As Take-Two Plans 21 Games For Release Between Now And March

2 years 11 months ago

Update: Immediately following the publication of this piece, Take-Two reached out to inform IGN that it was delaying its announced NFL partnership game past March 2022, meaning that it has two "immersive core releases" from new franchises that have not yet been announced, one of which is being developed by Gearbox.

Original story:

With its full-year financial results today, publisher Take-Two Interactive announced it plans to release a total of 21 games between now and the end of its fiscal year in March 2022. Unfortunately, it looks like none of these will be Grand Theft Auto 6.

While we don't know the names of all these games yet, existing announcements, trends, and Take-Two's own analysis can help us break down exactly what to expect.

Per Take-Two's own analysis, four of these games are "immersive core releases," with two from new franchises and two from existing franchises. One of the games from a new franchise is likely the new NFL game coming out of the partnership Take-Two announced with the league last year for a "non-simulation football game experience." And one, Take-Two says, is being made by Gearbox, giving no further details.

For the two existing franchises, one is definitely WWE 2K22, which was announced at Wrestlemania last month. The second is most likely a new NBA 2K game, as the series has had a consistent pattern of annual releases going back years.

Summer Games Done Quick 2021 Schedule Released

2 years 11 months ago

Speedrunning organization Games Done Quick has released the full schedule for Summer Games Done Quick 2021, and the line-up is the usual mix of classic, well-known, and sometimes unexpected games that speedrun fans know and love. The event will run from July 4 to July 11 and will feature dozens of speedruns.

The opening few games featured will include Dragon Age: Inquisition, Psychonauts, and F-Zero GX. Though the event will feature many well-known speedrunning games like Mario Kart 64, Super Mario 64, and Super Metroid, it also includes a number of lesser-known or just plain bizarre choices, like the N64 cult classic Blast Corps, a two players, one controller run of Sonic 3D Blast, and the forgotten From Software classic Metal Wolf Chaos XD. Some newer games also made it into the mix, including Teardown, a game that isn't even out of Early Access yet.

As always, Summer Games Done Quick is a speedrunning marathon event where players demonstrate their ability to beat games as quickly as possible. Viewers are encouraged to donate to the event, with all proceeds going to charitable groups like Doctors Without Borders. Due to COVID-19, the event will be online only, as was the case with 2020's event. Last year's event raised $2.3 million for Doctors Without Borders.

COD: Black Ops Cold War's New Patch Notes Make Big Balance Changes To Snipers

2 years 11 months ago

Call of Duty's Season 3 Reloaded is coming soon with an '80s action hero theme, plus there's major weapon tuning coming to Black Ops Cold War's weapon pool, as revealed in today's patch notes from Treyarch. This mid-season update will go live event goes live at 9 PM PT May 19/12 AM ET May 20.

However, the highlight of today's patch notes is definitely the weapon balancing that Treyarch is bringing to Cold War's weapon pool. Significant weapon tuning is coming for both multiplayer and Zombies mode.

For multiplayer, there's a significant change coming to flinch across the entire sniper class. The developers are introducing a sniper-specific flinch, which was created to move the weapon aim while being hit. This new sniper flinch will be more pronounced while aiming down sights with the sniper. The update also individualizes the aim down sights momentum for each sniper rifle, meaning each rifle will have its own unique ADS speed and heft to it.

A bullet velocity increase will buff almost the entire class, providing assault rifles more of a long-distance advantage over submachine guns. The FFAR 1 is the only one in the class that will not receive this increase, and instead the bullet velocity is being reduced in exchange for an increase to its max damage.

A change is also coming to the headshot modifiers for the assault rifle class. Assault rifles that have 5.56 ammo will have a 1.4x headshot modifier, while those using 7.62 ammo will have a 1.25x modifier. The number of hits required to kill should remain the same, except for the FFAR 1, which will require fewer hits to kill with a headshot.

GTA 5 Has Now Sold 145M Copies; 2K's NFL Game Delayed, New Gearbox Title Coming

2 years 11 months ago

Grand Theft Auto V has crossed yet another huge sales milestone. Take-Two Interactive has announced that the open-world game has now crossed 145 million units shipped to retailers, which is up from 140 million three months ago. Also during the call, 2K delayed its upcoming arcade NFL game and announced that Borderlands studio Gearbox will release a new game.

In total, the series has reached 345 million units sold in to retailers. That's a huge figure, but it's not the biggest franchise around, as Call of Duty just hit 400 million sold.

The game is poised for even more growth in the future, as Rockstar Games just announced that GTA V is headed to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 11. That's also the day that GTA Online's standalone release will debut on next-gen systems.

Outside of that, Rockstar recently announced plans to support GTA Online with more content updates throughout the summer.

Also in the earnings release, Take-Two announced that Red Dead Redemption II has now shipped more than 37 million units, up from 36 million, while the franchise overall has passed 60 million copies sold across two entries. Like GTA Online, Red Dead Online is also getting additional updates this summer.

Take-Two also disclosed franchise sales numbers for other series:

The Mass Effect Legendary Edition Changes Fans Love, From Tali's New Face to Changing a Character's Race

2 years 11 months ago
Mass Effect Legendary Edition is out and it brings a litany of changes to the series — some announced and some kept secret until it was in the hands of fans — and players are still discovering more. Leading up to the release of Mass Effect Legendary Edition, EA and BioWare detailed many of the changes coming to the series. IGN's Mass Effect Legendary Edition wiki guide breaks down many of those changes and it's worth checking out, but many new things are being discovered daily. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/05/13/mass-effect-legendary-edition-the-10-biggest-changes"] Some come as big surprises, such as a fix to a decade-old bug, while others serve as reminders to just how much time has passed since the release of the original trilogy of Mass Effect games. IGN has rounded up some of the biggest, best, well-hidden, and most-surprising changes to BioWare's sci-fi trilogy.

Tali's Face in Mass Effect 3

Anyone familiar with the original Mass Effect 3 release knows that it answered a question asked by many a Tali fan: what does Tali look like under her quarian armor? If you romance Tali in Mass Effect 3, this relationship leads to a scene in which Commander Shepard looks at a photograph of an unmasked Tali and...saw what was a photoshopped image of Miss England '05 winner, Hammasa Kohistani. Sure, BioWare did add some alien features to Kohistani's face in the photo, but at the end of the day, it was still just a photo of a human. It's safe to say BioWare took that criticism to heart because in the Legendary Edition of Mass Effect 3, Tali's face is now seemingly an original piece of art and not a photoshop of a pageant winner.

I play for the feels

2 years 11 months ago

[When Destructoid reader PatBateman17 blogs, we listen. -Jordan]

If you've seen me lurking on any number of AMA posts here, you know by now my absolute favorite gaming question is, "What is your most emotional gaming moment?" Gaming is by far my primary hobby, but I want more than just good action, cool design, or grand setpieces. I want a deeply emotional story that goes places. I want a dev that takes me on a journey from start to credits — and if you can absolutely demolish my heart in the meantime, I'm even more here for that!

Give me an emotional game any day

Sure, I enjoy my shooty bang bang games as much as the regular lot, my puzzle games with minimal story, the highs and lows of Mario Kart... but what I really enjoy are the games that rip my heart out of my chest and leave me gaping at the screen after I've wrapped, totally distraught and in awe of the journey the developer has taken me on. NinjaSpeed's excellent blog got me thinking about what I really connect with in the games I've played throughout the different times of my life. I could go on and on with this one, but I figured I'd hit the highlights that immediately come to memory.
