Blizzard President Explains Why No One Can Play Overwatch 2 Right Now

17 hours 1 minute ago

Today should be a massive day for Overwatch fans as Overwatch 2 has finally released its free-to-play PvP half for everyone. However, no one can currently actually get the game to work. While normally this could be chalked up to servers being overloaded, there is something far more sinister at work that is preventing people from getting to play the game.

A tweet from Blizzard Entertainment president Mike Ybarra says that “unfortunately we are experiencing a mass DDoS attack on our servers. Teams are working hard to mitigate/manage. This is causing a lot of drop/connection issues.”

You can see the full tweet below.

Overwatch 2 Hit By DDoS Attacks on Launch Day

17 hours 15 minutes ago

Update: Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller has revealed that, while the team works on server issues, the game has now suffered a second DDoS attack on its launch day.

"We’re steadily making progress on server issues and stability, as well as working through a second DDoS attack," Keller wrote. "We’re all hands on deck and will continue to work throughout the night. Thank you for your patience - we’ll share more info as it becomes available."

At time of writing, I've been able to access the game for the first time in around 12 hours, so service may be resuming.

If you're struggling to find a match in Overwatch 2, Blizzard shared that it is currently under a mass distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, preventing successful matchmaking.

Blizzard president Mike Ybarra shared that the Overwatch 2 servers are under a mass DDoS attack and that the teams are working to mitigate the damage.

What Is a Post-Paid Phone Number in Overwatch 2? Answered

17 hours 46 minutes ago

If you are currently setting up your account to play Overwatch 2, you’ll notice a message about the latest mobile device system developed by Blizzard. With this guide, we’ll provide details about this update and explain what the post-paid phone number in Overwatch 2 means. We’ll also go over which cellular networks are compatible with this system to help you understand these new mechanics.

PSMS Protect Program in Overwatch 2

Blizzard’s SMS Protect program allows players to safely connect their mobile devices to their Battle.net account. However, some users have received a message stating they need to enter a “post-paid phone number” to access certain games, like Overwatch 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. That being said, you may wonder, what is a post-paid phone number?

Post-paid cellular plans are contract-based and are typically charged on a monthly billing cycle. So, for example, companies like AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile are compatible with Overwatch 2’s SMS Protect as long as you have a contract with them.

Unfortunately, those who don’t have a post-paid cellular device won’t be able to play Overwatch 2 because these networks aren’t covered in this system. These services include Cricket, Mint Mobile, and Spectrum Mobile, which are pay-as-you-go programs.

As of right now, there is no possible solution to this issue since there is no indication that Blizzard will change this plan. Therefore, we’ll have to see if the company will eventually adjust the program to allow post-paid mobile device users to play these games.

Tequila Works confirms Stadia-exclusive Gylt is going multiplatform next year

18 hours 1 minute ago

Tequila Works, the developer behind the likes of the sublime Rime and intriguing VR murder-mystery The Invisible Hours, has confirmed its formerly Stadia-exclusive action-adventure Gylt will be going multiplatform next year.

Gylt, an enjoyably surreal horror yarn that follows the adventures of a young girl in search of her missing cousin, launched exclusively on Stadia back in 2019. And while Tequila Works did at one point suggest a multiplatform release might eventually be on the cards, it's remained resolutely Stadia-bound in the years since.

However, following last week's announcement that Google will be shutting down Stadia on 18th January next year - a move that prompted questions as to what might happen to the cloud gaming service's handful of remaining exclusives - Tequila Works has confirmed Gylt will finally be getting a multiplatform release some time in 2023.

Company of Heroes 3 Delayed to 2023

18 hours 19 minutes ago

Sega and Relic Games have announced that Company of Heroes 3 is being delayed to February 23, 2023.

“As we approach the November 17th launch for Company of Heroes 3, our team has decided the game is not quite up to our players’ or our own high standards. There are still bugs to squash, pixels to polish, gameplay to adjust, and feedback to address,” the development team explained on Twitter.

They continued, “As a result, we’ve decided to move the launch date to February 23, 2023. While we know many of you are itching to get your hands on the game, we believe this to be the best decision for CoH3, our players, and our studio. Company of Heroes 3 has joined the list of many games being delayed to the next year, which includes titles such as Forspoken, Starfield, and Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals.

How to Get the Market Link in Slime Rancher 2

19 hours 8 minutes ago

For fans of the first Slime Rancher, it’s no mystery how useful the Market Link can be. The ability to sell plorts while out and about is great and helps make any rancher’s coin pouch extra flush. Unfortunately, it’s been a bit confusing where to get the gadget in Slime Rancher 2. Good thing you read Twinfinite because we’re going to tell you how to get the market link in Slime Rancher 2.

The market link is a returning gadget that original Slime Rancher fans remember, enabling you to sell plorts from almost anywhere. You simply craft one at your fabricator, head off to your favorite wild farming area, and place it in a nearby gadget slot.

Once placed, you can launch plorts into it just like the plort market at the conservatory. The main difference here is that the market link does not show you the current prices on the market, so make sure you double-check the price board before you leave.

19 hours 20 minutes ago

Studio Bones has finally released the main trailer of Mob Psycho 100 Season 3, featuring a cult-filled world where Shigeo “Mob” Kageyama must decide what to do with his life.

In this trailer, we see Mob deal with typical problems at school until tragedy strikes, resulting in an all-out battle with various enemies. The storyline will also continue on with the previous narrative of Season 2 after the fight against the Claw leader, Toichiro Suzuki.

You can check out the main trailer of Mob Psycho 100 Season 3 from Crunchyroll’s official YouTube here:

The trailer showcases many snippets of different narratives, including Mob’s heartbreak when he learns that his crush, Tsubomi Takane, will be moving next month. In addition, there is a brief scene that displays the famous giant broccoli that towers over Seasoning City, which was formed during the showdown between Mob and Suzuki.

Since the series has mostly followed along with the manga, the third season will end the World Domination arc and begin the Divine Tree storyline. This particular arc will focus on the worshippers of the broccoli that will ultimately try to claim this “tree” and what Mob will do with his future.

Overwatch 2 Review

19 hours 23 minutes ago

Is Overwatch 2 truly a sequel? It’s a question that has lingered around the second iteration of Blizzard’s multiplayer shooter ever since its unveiling in 2019, and one that intensified when it was revealed that it will fully replace the existing Overwatch, not exist alongside it. Well, now it’s finally in our hands, and I can say that while it’s less of a reinvention and more of an evolution of the intense, nuanced, and brilliantly colourful team-based battle that made its predecessor so enjoyable, it still brings enough new things to the table that it feels like its own distinct game and not simply Overwatch 1.5.

The bigger question, as Overwatch 2 begins to open up to the public as a free-to-play game, is how many of those new ideas are positive changes – different is, after all, not synonymous with better, and there are definite improvements here, just not universally so. I don’t mean to sound too negative – the original Overwatch is genuinely among the most fun I’ve ever had with a video game (and one of only two 10s I’ve ever given at IGN), so a step down from that is still something very enjoyable. Blizzard has simply set an incredibly high bar for itself here.

Soul Hackers 2 Patch to Add Dash, Demons, Faster Battles

19 hours 23 minutes ago

Soul Hackers 2 Patch

Atlus plans to improve the Soul Hackers 2 experience for all players with an update for the game. The Soul Hackers 2 patch will add some new features designed to make crawling dungeons less of a crawl, as well as to speed battles up. The update should arrive in "a few weeks", or sometime in early November 2022.

In its news post announcing the Soul Hackers 2 patch, Atlus detailed some of the changes planned.

The main addition is the "Dash" function. This speeds up Ringo's movement in dungeons so she and the party can cover more ground. The Dash function is a toggle that can be set anytime. It also accompanies an adjustment to one of Milady's Summoner Skills, "Assassin's Stride". Previously, the skill increased movement speed temporarily during exploration. Following the patch, it'll cause enemies to ignore Ringo for a set distance.

Second, the Soul Hackers 2 patch adds a "Speed Up" mode to battle. This speeds up combat animations.

Other adjustments include tweaks to loading screen tips, changes to on-screen prompts shown during Soul Level Increase to reduce instances of accidental input, adjustments to enemy spawn rates in dungeons, and the ability to move directly to shops from the City Map screen.

Lastly, the patch adds four new demons to fuse and use:

Overwatch 2 Review – Some of the Old, Some of the New

19 hours 23 minutes ago

Overwatch 2 on PC

Real talk: my feelings and thoughts on Overwatch 2 have definitely been a bit of a rollercoaster ride since the initial beta with Sojourn. Things started out pretty positive as I’d just been glad to be back on the Overwatch hype train again, then that hype took a nosedive with the Junker Queen beta when I realized how much shorter the time-to-kill was. Look, it’s no secret that I’m awful at competitive shooters, and dying within seconds always feels bad especially when you can’t even react.

Having spent a lot more time with the game over the past couple weeks during the review period, and having gone back to Overwatch 1 in that time as well, my overall feelings on the game have taken yet another u-turn. What I’m trying to say is that as a lapsed Overwatch player who sunk hundreds of hours into Competitive mode before finally deciding that game had run its course, this has been a confusing journey, but I’ll do my best to articulate everything that Overwatch 2 got right and wrong in this review.

The biggest foundational change made in Overwatch 2 is the shift to 5v5 from 6v6 matchups. And not only that, but we’re also taking a tank out of the equation. The impact that this has had on the way the game plays and feels is immediate; fights go by much quicker as once you take out a tank, that encounter is usually over.

Overwatch 2 review-in-progress: tonnes of fun marred by context and expectations

19 hours 23 minutes ago

Put a screenshot of Overwatch 2 next to a screenshot of Overwatch 1, and you'd be hard-pressed to spot any difference. Both display a vast chaotic ballet, in which two teams composed of some of the most well-realised characters in hero shooters wage war until one team emerges triumphant. Just like its predecessor, Overwatch 2 is one of the most delicately crafted sensory onslaughts I've experienced in a game.

Guiding my old favourite heroes through venerable maps like King's Row and Route 66, it's like I never left. In many ways, it feels like I've simply been given a reason to play Overwatch 1 again. Is that enough for a sequel? Is it enough to justify the incredibly confusing, lengthy, and oft-botched process of trying to make Overwatch feel relevant again? I'm not certain it is. But perhaps it should be.

How to Play Competitive Mode in Overwatch 2

19 hours 23 minutes ago

Overwatch 2 is finally releasing this week, and there are quite a few changes coming to the game as well. New players will have a guided experience that lets them unlock characters slowly, while veterans should be able to jump straight in. Here’s how to play Competitive mode in Overwatch 2.

Unlocking Competitive Mode in Overwatch 2

First off, if you’ve played the original Overwatch and you’ve participated in Competitive mode, you should be able to access Competitive mode in Overwatch 2 when it releases. As long as you’ve completed your 10 placement matches in any previous Competitive season and got a rank placement, you’ll be able to bypass the new player requirements to start climbing again.

On the other hand, if you’ve never played Competitive before or if you’re a new player, unlocking it in Overwatch 2 will take a bit of time. Here are the requirements:

  • Complete the First Time User Experience as a new player.
  • Win 50 matches in Quick Play mode.

New players will go through the FTUE, where they’ll slowly unlock new heroes to play around with and gain access to the other modes in Overwatch 2. After unlocking all heroes, they’ll also need to win 50 Quick Play matches.

Once these requirements have been met, you’ll be able to start taking part in Competitive. These requirements were put into place to prevent smurfs and boosters from running amok in ranked mode, while also making sure that newbies get acquainted with the game and all the characters before jumping in.

All Overwatch 2 Season Start and End Dates

19 hours 23 minutes ago

Overwatch 2 has a much bigger emphasis on seasons than the original game. With loot boxes going the way of the dodo, the Battle Pass pushes the importance of playing during the limited time span to unlock new characters and Mythic skins. Down below you can find all of the Overwatch 2 Season start and end dates up to the most recently announced season.

All Overwatch 2 Season Start and End Dates

First off, seasons in Overwatch 2 are currently about nine weeks long. That means there could be at most a total of about five seasons per year. It all depends upon the time between seasons and if Blizzard decides to stick with making each one nine weeks long.

At the end of this article, you can find a full table that easily breaks down all of the information mentioned below.

Overwatch 2 Season One Start and End Dates

The first season of Overwatch 2 began when the game launched on Oct. 4, 2022. The Battle Pass for this season includes the new support character Kiriko and the first Mythic skin in the game, Genji’s Cyber Demon skin.

As of right now, there is no official end date for season one. However, if Blizzard is very strict with the schedule, then the season will end on Dec. 6, 2022, exactly nine weeks after the launch of the game.

Overwatch 2 Battle Pass Explained

19 hours 23 minutes ago

Overwatch 2 is ditching the loot box model for a more player-friendly Battle Pass model that rewards fans of the game for putting in the time and playing the game. Sure, none of the skins or other loot box items made the game pay to win, but at least a Battle Pass makes the cosmetics accessible to more players. Down below we’ll explain everything you need to know about the Overwatch 2 Battle Pass.

Overwatch 2 Battle Pass Explained

The first and most important thing to remember about the Premium Battle Pass is that it’s a completely optional part of Overwatch 2 that won’t impact character stats. Putting money into the game won’t make it any easier. Everything you get from the Battle Pass is merely cosmetic with new characters being the exception.

Overwatch 2 Battle Pass Cost

The cost of the Premium Battle Pass in Overwatch 2 is 1000 Overwatch Coins which comes out to about $10 USD. The cost of coins around the world may differ, but the amount of 1000 will remain constant.

However, it’s worth noting that every player gets access to the free Battle Pass simply by playing the game. The main difference is that the rewards are notably different from the Premium version. Still, you don’t need to put any money into the game if you don’t care about getting extra skins, emotes, sprays, etc.

If you get to the point where you only have the free version but would have filled the Premium Battle Pass, then you can always purchase it after the fact. All the XP you earned will go towards maxing out the purchased pass.

There is one more paid option for the Premium Battle Pass which is worth noting. For players with plenty of disposable income, you can purchase the Premium Battle Pass plus 20 tiers for 2200 Overwatch Coins or about $22 USD. Additionally, you can purchase individual tiers of the Battle Pass for 200 Coins each.

How to Get Kiriko in Overwatch 2

19 hours 23 minutes ago

Upon launch, Overwatch 2 gave players three new characters to choose from. Junker Queen and Sojourn were available right from the start, but the third one requires a few more steps to unlock. Here’s everything you need to know about how to get Kiriko in Overwatch 2.

How to Get Kiriko in Overwatch 2

At this time, there are three methods for obtaining Kiriko and two of them involve spending money. Down the line, there will be other methods as well, but again, at least one will involve spending real money.

Unlocking Kiriko With the Founder’s Pack

This is the first method that players can do right now to make sure they’ll have Kiriko at launch. Any Overwatch player who buys the Overwatch 2 Founders Pack ($39.99 USD) will instantly unlock this new support at launch.

Just make sure to sign in to the game before the end of Season two, or else Kiriko won’t be obtainable through this method anymore.

Additionally, anyone who owned the original Overwatch before June 23, 2022 at 11 AM PDT will get free access to the Founder’s Pack upon launching Overwatch 2 for the first time.

Unlocking Kiriko With the Battle Pass

This method is sort of like two in one. There’s the Free Battle Pass option or the Premium Battle Pass.

Overwatch 2 is finally releasing this week, allowing players to jump into a competitive FPS game with over 30 heroes to play around with. But how do you actually unlock said heroes in Overwatch 2? Here’s what you need to know.

Unlocking Heroes in Overwatch 2 With FTUE

First off, if you’re a completely new player to Overwatch 2, it’s going to take a little while before you can unlock the full roster. In short, if you’re going through the First Time User Experience in Overwatch 2, just keep playing Quick Play matches. You’ll unlock new heroes naturally every three matches, and you should have access to the full roster once you hit around 100 matches.

How to Get Genji’s Cyber Demon Mythic Skin in Overwatch 2

19 hours 23 minutes ago

Back in the Summer of 2022, it was revealed that there would be a new highest rarity of skins in Overwatch 2 known as Mythic. The first one revealed was Genji’s and it opened up a completely new avenue for customization when it comes to skins in the franchise. Here’s everything you need to know about how to get Genji’s Cyber Demon Mythic skin in Overwatch 2.

How to Get Genji’s Cyber Demon Mythic Skin in Overwatch 2

First off, unlike the original game, you won’t need to dump a bunch of money into Overwatch 2 loot boxes to get this skin since this game doesn’t have them anymore. Instead, you’ll have to purchase the Premium Battle Pass. The free version has tons of unlockables as well, but you won’t be able to get Genji’s Mythic skin without paying up.

Fortunately, the total cost for the Premium Battle Pass of 1000 Overwatch Coins (about $10 USD) gets you a worthwhile amount of cosmetic goodies. From Legendary skins to new emotes and poses, the Premium Battle Pass is a solid deal for players who are planning on putting in a lot of time anyway.

How to Get Mythic Skins in Overwatch 2

19 hours 23 minutes ago

The cosmetics in Overwatch 2 got a massive upgrade with the introduction of Mythic skins. Legendary skins from the original are still in the game and there will be new ones introduced, but this new rarity opens up so many new avenues for customization. Here’s everything you need to know about how to get Mythic skins in Overwatch 2.

How to Get Mythic Skins in Overwatch 2

Before getting too excited about picking up a ton of Mythic skins, it’s important to know that they’re extremely rare. In fact, they’re so uncommon that Overwatch 2 only launched with one Mythic skin. As of right now, it doesn’t look like Blizzard has any plans to oversaturate the game with these new skins as they did with Legendaries in the original title.

Unlocked via Premium Battle Pass

As of right now, the only way to unlock Mythic skins is by reaching level 80 on the Premium Battle Pass. Everyone who plays the game gets access to the free Battle Pass, but only the players who pay 1000 Overwatch Coins will get the Premium version. This is essentially equal to paying $10 for access to the seasonal Premium Battle Pass.

Besides the Mythic skin, this pass also gives players access to other cosmetics like five Legendary skins, three emotes, six poses, and much more.

That’s all there is to know about how to get Mythic skins in Overwatch 2. If any other methods are added by Blizzard, we’ll make sure to add them here.

Overwatch took the gaming world by storm when it launched in 2016, thanks to its well-balanced roster of unique heroes and terrific objective-based, first-person-shooting gameplay. The game’s popularity endured through the years thanks to a wealth of new content like characters, maps, cosmetics, and game modes, adding to the terrific foundation. However, once the content dried up for Overwatch, the public interest followed shortly afterward. Overwatch 2 represents the re-emergence of one of the top multiplayer games of the last generation, delivering a 5v5 format, a free-to-play structure, and a ton of new content. The result is an action-packed and enjoyable progression of the beloved hero-shooter franchise, but one that feels less revolutionary and more iterative than expected.

CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwiński steps down from joint-CEO role

19 hours 30 minutes ago

CD Projekt co-founder Marcin Iwiński has announced he'll be stepping down from his joint-CEO role - a position he's held at the company for nearly 30 years - before the end of 2022.

"I am beginning a brand-new personal chapter at CD Projekt," Iwiński wrote in a statement shared following the company's latest investor meeting, "as I will submit my candidacy for the role of Chairman of the Supervisory Board, leaving behind my joint-CEO role. By the end of 2022, I'll hand over my duties to my colleagues from the board."

"For me this is a huge moment," Iwiński continued. "I've been at CD Projekt for almost 30 years and I have seen it go from a handful of passion-driven rebels to an internationally recognised developer of story-driven role-playing games loved by millions globally. Back when Michał Kiciński and I founded the company, I don't think either of us would have been able to imagine this incredible journey, not even in our wildest dreams."

Forever Skies Hands-On Preview: A Toxic But Relaxing Flight

19 hours 58 minutes ago

Soaring above the clouds in an airplane – or, if you’re extra adventurous, a hot air balloon – is often a joy for anyone inclined toward the excitement of travel. You get to see the world from up above, and not to mention, airline food isn’t always half-bad. Now imagine the very same experience, but the world is absolutely and utterly destroyed. Welcome to Earth in the future: a total garbage pile where the sky is bright green and poisonous. Oh, and don’t forget the brutal thunderstorms and the ravenous roving swarms of giant moths. And that’s saying absolutely nothing about what lives beneath the giant dust storm blanketing the Earth’s lower atmosphere. It all seems so interesting that I can’t help but wonder – and fear – what I might find when I eventually build the right components on my airship to get down there. That’s the feeling drummed up by Forever Skies, an airborne survival (and, eventually, horror survival)-slash-airship building sim that I got the pleasure of experiencing in the form of a closed test.

If you’re interested in tons of combat and moment-to-moment action, you might want to look somewhere else. At least in its opening moments, Forever Skies is a slow-burn survival game that does its absolute darndest to make you feel insect-sized in its ravaged world. You start off by scrounging for the basics: food, water, health kits, crafting materials like metal and synthetics, and other tools you’ll need for survival. Very shortly after that, you get an airship that serves as your customizable home base and primary method of navigating through the world.
