Amateur Developer Has Remade The Worst Legend Of Zelda Games

23 hours 52 minutes ago

One amateur game developer has decided to give two of the most notoriously terrible Legend of Zelda games a second chance, remaking Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon for a new audience, as reported by Eurogamer.

Originally developed by Animation Magic and released on the CD-i console in 1993, Faces of Evil and Wand of Gamelon are considered to be the worst Legend of Zelda games in the entire series thanks to the frustrating gameplay and unintentionally terrifying animated cutscenes which eventually became bizarre memes.

"I wanted to prove to myself that I could make a game," the remake's developer Dopply said in an FAQ. "It started as a joke between friends, but then I wanted to see if I could actually pull it off. I've flirted with game making for a while but never finished something. This was my chance to do that (well, over the course of four years, I guess). Over time, remastered versions of these notorious titles was something I wanted for myself as well."

Here are Apex Legends' most popular characters

23 hours 59 minutes ago

Apex Legends players have lifted the lid on which are our favourite characters in its battle royale, Apex Legends, and while the top spot is unlikely to shock you, I can't pretend I wasn't surprised by some of the other entries on the list.

Earlier this week, Apex Legends News asked players to select which Legends boasted the highest pick rate, and rank them from 1-5. Though it promised to respond "in 1 hour" it actually took a full day for the team to return to Twitter, where it confirmed that - yep, you guessed it - Wraith continues to be the game's most popular character.

Bloodhound clocked in at second place - which is pretty good given they're not a character that has a particularly impressive win rate - with newbie Horizon taking the bronze (thanks DBLTAP).

Forza Horizon 5 might be coming sooner than we think

Forza Horizon 5 might not have been announced yet, but one journalist has gone on record to say we might get it ahead of the recently revealed Forza Motorsport, possibly as early as 2021.

In the podcast The Xbox Empire, GameBeat's Jeff Grubb revealed that he suspects we "might get the next Forza Horizon game first" even though Playground Games has yet to confirm the game is in development.

"We saw Forza Motorsport get teased a few months ago [but] I think we might get the next Forza Horizon game first and I think that might be coming this coming year," Grubb said (thanks, VGC). "They're in a weird situation where for some reason Playground says it does seem like they may be ready to go first. I think I know the setting, but I'm going to let them announce it."

Fallout 76 now features C.A.M.P. wheelchairs following a fan request

1 day 1 hour ago

Wheelchairs are now available as C.A.M.P. decorations in Fallout 76 after a Bethesda employee spotted a request on the game's subreddit.

In a message entitled "Please sweet Beth, give me a wheelchair", Kel Leunen reached out to the development team, stating: "I'm disabled irl and I would really REALLY love a wheelchair I can place in my C.A.M.P. It would make me so happy to have that little piece of me in my creations. And I think a lot of other people would enjoy it too (maybe for when you recreate a hospital/medbay)".

After the usual back and forth in the comments, Kel later updated their message to say: "Another edit: for people playing 'devil's advocate'; I'm asking for a furniture item which model already exists in game. I'm not asking for my character to turn disabled, I'm asking for a chair I can place in my camp, we already have loads of chair models.

Who needs Black Ops Cold War when Konami's Green Beret has returned?

If you haven't gotten enough Cold War action from Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops entry, then retro publisher Hamster are offering a more old-school peek behind The Iron Curtain this week, thanks to its latest Arcade Archives release.

Originally released in arcades in 1985 - before being ported to a plethora of home computers and consoles - Konami's Green Beret, (also known as Rush'n Attack), sees a lone special forces agent infiltrate a Russian military base on a mission to rescue a party of P.O.W.s from behind enemy lines. This notoriously tough arcade sees our hero charge into battle against an entire battalion of soldiers armed with only a small knife, literally stabbing his way endlessly through an onslaught of military personnel.

Check out the action below, in this video from YouTuber Retrogaming Longplays.

Hibana statue coming for the dedicated (and rich) Rainbow Six Siege fan

1 day 2 hours ago

Wealthy supporters of Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege now have a new way to showcase their love for deadly breacher Yumiko Imagawa - better known by her call-sign "Hibana" - in the form of brand new premium statue, now available to pre-order from merch-maker PureArts.

This quarter-scale polyresin statue spotlights the Japanese S.A.T. operator kitted out in her Elite "Onkochishin" skin. Yumiko stands poised for action with her Kyudo bow, reflecting her in-game MVP pose. For traditionalists, the bow can also be swapped out for Hibana's wall-destroying X-KAIROS firearm. Additionally a small-scale Japanese lantern - complete with LED - can be situated on the statue's base to create dynamic lighting effects.

Looking for the old Souls within Bluepoint's Demon's Souls remake

1 day 5 hours ago

Bluepoint Games' reimagining of Demon's Souls is the highest-rated launch game on PS5, and understandably so. The Austin studio has done a fantastic job of bringing its interpretation of Demon's Souls to Sony's brand-new console, furnishing its remake of a cult classic with mod-cons like a fully-featured photo mode, two different graphical options - and, of course, graphics to die for. Still, it's fascinating to note some of the things Bluepoint had creative license to change when remaking Demon's Souls - and to ask whether some elements of the original design have been lost in translation.

Demon's Souls had a rocky start. Initially pitched as an 'Oblivion' competitor, it struggled in its early stages of development. This is where Armored Core 4 and For Answer Director, Hidetaka Miyazaki was brought on to steer the ship, and make sure that Demon's Souls made it all the way to a final release. After an initial showing, EX-SIE President Shuhei Yoshida recalled calling it 'unbelievably bad'. Sony never published the original release of Demon's Souls outside of Asia.

Details from its developers are still scarce 10 years on, with only a few snippets of interviews with key staff being the only information we have about the conditions in which Demon's Souls was developed. But there's a clear narrative of strife, and struggling to meet internal expectations with Sony Japan. That struggle can be seen by way of what we're presented with in the game itself. The broken Archstone, full of cut content, frustrating swamps and "cheap" boss fights like the Dragon God, which was probably envisioned as more of a set piece than a quick, easy boss. But, the conditions and resources allocated to the game also reflected the world that From Software was trying to portray.

Review: Tracks: Toybox Edition

1 day 5 hours ago

A grown man probably shouldn't be so interested in a game where all you do is play with toy trains, but I never had a wooden train set growing up. We skipped over that staple of childhood in favor of Hot Wheels tracks. At the time, I didn't really mind much as those die-cast cars were way cooler than some blue plastic engine with a face on it. However, after spending two weeks with Tracks, I'm starting to think I might have missed out on something great.

Uri Gellar to Allow Nintendo to Use Kadabra on Pokemon Cards Again

1 day 8 hours ago
After nearly 20 years, illusionist and magician Uri Geller has given Nintendo permission to once again use Kadabra on Pokemon cards. Geller, who is perhaps most well-known for his ability to bend spoons with his mind, sued Nintendo in 2000 and asked that Kadabra no longer be allowed to be put on Pokemon cards due to the similarity of Kadabra's spoon and Japanese name to himself. In Japan, Kadabra is written in certain variations that include Yungerer and Yungeller, which are both similar sounding to Geller. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2016/10/25/top-10-scariest-pokemon"] Now, almost 20 years after Kadabra's last appearance on a Pokemon card in 2003, he has changed his mind. "I am truly sorry for what I did 20 years ago," Geller wrote on Twitter. "Kids and grownups I am releasing the ban. It’s now all up to #Nintendo to bring my #kadabra #pokemon card back. It will probably be one of the rarest cards now!

Microsoft Flight Simulator to Get VR Support in December 2020

1 day 14 hours ago
Microsoft Flight Simulator will get VR support on December 22, 2020, and a substantial UK World Update will be ready on January 26, 2021. Revealed during an official Microsoft Flight Simulator developer Q&A on Twitch, VR will be added in the free Sim Update 2 for all the big VR headsets, including those from Oculus and Valve. Furthermore, the VR experience will include both the gameplay and menus, offering a smooth and immersive experience throughout. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/17/microsoft-flight-simulator-review"] World Update 3, on the other hand, will create a more accurate rendition of the UK using new data and aerial images for England, Scotland, and Wales. There will also be 50-60 new points of interest, including new landmarks and procedural buildings, and improvements to certain existing airports like Land's End, Liverpool EGGP and Manchester Baron. There will be new challenges and a new flight as well. Improvements to the Northern Ireland region is part of Asobo's plan, but it may not be ready for World Update 3. The UK World Update follows similar ones for Japan and the U.S., and will further improve the already impressive map of the world that players can fly around. Additionally, Asobo said it will be returning to the U.S.

Microsoft Flight Simulator – Sankt Johann Airport Add-On Looks Charmingly Bucolic in New Trailer

1 day 15 hours ago

Today the good folks at third-party add-on developer Gaya Simulations released a new trailer showing the upcoming Sankt Johann Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The trailer provides a good look at the small airport in Austria (ICAO LOIJ) that will be released on December 5 on Orbx Central and “slightly afterward” on the official marketplace in MIcrosoft Flight Simulator.

Alongside Zell Am See, Innsbruck, Wien, and Salzburg, which are already available, it’s another nice way to explore the beauty of Tirol and the Austrian Alps.

It’s one of my favorite locations to fly, so I’m going to keep an eye on this one.

In the meanwhile, you can check out the trailer below.

During a livestreamed event earlier this week, the developers of Microsoft Flight Simulator shared a lot of details about the future of the sim, including the next world update focusing on the United Kingdom.

Saga Frontier Remastered Announced; Releasing in 2021

1 day 15 hours ago

Square Enix made a surprise announcement this morning with the reveal of SaGa Frontier Remastered, an updated version of the 1998 RPG on PS1. According to Square’s official Twitter post, SaGa Frontier Remastered will include “updated graphics, events, cutscenes, enhancements (and a new protagonist!)”.

While the original SaGa Frontier was not the first entry in the SaGa series, it was the first to make its way to the US under the SaGa banner. The original game was unique in that it allowed players to play as one of seven protagonists with different backgrounds and techniques. The “Free Scenario System” allowed players to tackle the story in a non-linear fashion which was a bit unorthodox at the time.

This is not the first SaGa game to receive a remaster as of late. The Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy was just announced this past August, collecting the Game Boy Final Fantasy Legend trilogy. The collection was released with a number of enhancements such as a fast-forward toggle, screen magnification, and other customization options. A remaster of Romancing SaGa 3 was announced late last year and was the first time that western players could get their hands on the game.

SaGa Frontier Remastered is set for release in 2021 on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Steam, iOS and Android.

Paper Mario: The Origami King Is $10 Off At Amazon For Black Friday

1 day 15 hours ago

While we've seen quite a few doorbuster Nintendo Switch game deals for Black Friday, discounts on 2020 exclusives have been less common. Over the past day or so, however, retailers have started to offer modest deals on recent releases such as Super Mario 3D All-Stars and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (this deal has sadly ended, though). And now you can also save on Paper Mario: The Origami King at Amazon. Normally $60, the charming role-playing game is down to $50 for a limited time.

As with most Amazon discounts, there's no telling how long this deal will be available. If you're looking to pick up The Origami King for yourself or someone on your holiday shopping list, you should grab it as soon as possible. This deal ties the lowest price we've seen for Paper Mario: The Origami King since it launched over the summer, and it's been a while since we've spotted it on sale.

Today Atlus hosted a livestream to celebrate the anniversary of the release of Vanillaware’s 13 Sentinel: Aegis Rim in Japan.

While some expected news like new platforms or new games, that was not in the cards today.

On the other hand, we got to take a look at some interesting merchandise.

First of all, Artfx J revealed the prototype of another figure portraying Minami Natsuno and the little robot BJ. This isn’t the same figure revealed a little while ago by FREEing.

The scale is much smaller (1/8), which means it’ll also likely be cheaper. You can check it out below.

On top of that, Mameyoi revealed a lineup of small plushies portraying the whole gang.

Cyberpunk 2077 PS4-PS5 and Xbox One-Xbox Series X/S Cross-Saves Detailed

1 day 16 hours ago
If you begin Cyberpunk 2077 on either PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, you will be able to bring your save with you to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, respectively. Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt Red detailed the steps needed to ensure your saves will transfer with you to your next-gen console, and they vary slightly between the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/19/cyberpunk-2077-the-final-preview"]

Cyberpunk 2077 PS4-PS5 Cross-Save

As long as you are using the same PlayStation account, you will be able to pick up your game save on PS5 right where you've left on PS4. There are three different options to transfer your saves, and they are as follows;
  1. Connect to your PlayStation Plus account and upload your saves
  2. Transfer your data via LAN cable or wireless connection (WiFi)
  3. Use a compatible storage device to copy and transfer your saves to the same PSN account on PlayStation 5.

Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox One-Xbox Series X/S Cross-Save

It's a bit easier on the Xbox side of things with cross-save, as Smart Delivery "allows you to continue playing the game on Xbox Series X/S from where you’ve left off on the Xbox One." As long as your are connected to the internet so your saved data can be uploaded to the cloud, your save will transfer seamlessly and will be ready when you start Cyberpunk 2077 on your new next-gen system. If you need another option, you can also "connect both your Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S to the same network and use the system network transfer option." 1 day 17 hours ago

An amateur video game developer has remade CD-i games Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon.

Link: The Faces of Evil and Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon are two action-adventure video games developed by Animation Magic and published by Philips Interactive Media for the CD-i on 10th October 1993 in North America and 25th December 1993 in Europe.

Both games are based on The Legend of Zelda franchise, but aren't considered part of the official series, and were precursors to the infamous CD-i game Zelda's Adventure. The three Zelda CD-i games are considered among the worse in The Legend of Zelda franchise.
