Get this top 1TB SSD for just £67.64, £22 off its normal price

7 hours 1 minute ago

The Crucial MX500 has been our top SATA SSD recommendation for a little while now, so when I saw the 1TB model had been discounted to £67.64 on Amazon UK I had to tell you about it. You see, the MX500 is often the best value SSD available, and so far this year it's sat around the £90 mark - so today's ~25 percent discount on top of that is pretty outstanding.

As someone who used a 240GB SSD for years, it's hard to describe how much better it feels to have a 1TB drive instead of - or in addition to! - a smaller capacity model. It means you don't have to spend time re-downloading games you've deleted to save space, or going through your filesystem with a fine-tooth comb to cut out every unneeded megabyte. Instead, you get plenty of space for your Windows install, and a healthy collection of games, videos and other media.

This holds true whether you're on a desktop or a laptop, although on the latter you will need to check whether your particular model uses SATA drives, M.2 drives or a combination (Crucial's SSD buying guide can be handy here!)

The Game Boy Printer lives on in the instax mini Link Special Edition

8 hours 41 minutes ago

I never asked my parents for a Game Boy Printer for Christmas, because I knew, like a skateboard or a Digivice, it fell into the land of items I wasn't allowed to have. Looking back, this is probably because I knew they knew I'd get bored of it far too quickly. Still, I desperately wanted a picture of the backbone of my Pokémon Yellow team, my main shrew, Fred the Sandslash. The original Fred, sadly, would never be immortalised in a black-and-white photograph, but the Game Boy Printer has been reborn as the instax mini Link Special Edition.

Through the use of the dedicated Instax for Nintendo Switch app and the console's ability to connect to smart devices, this printer allows you to turn your favourite screenshots into small photographs. Uploading your chosen screenshots is a quick process and the app remembers any past photos you've printed, which streamlines reprinting. The app also contains a number of editing features - zoom, adding text, changing the brightness or adding a filter - which, while basic, are easy to use, especially for beginners. Best of all, and most importantly, the quality of the printed screenshots is great, with each one retaining all the colour and vitality of the original version. It means I'm now the happy owner of a picture I took of an Alolan Sandslash - I call him Ice Fred - I took in New Pokémon Snap.

Resident Evil Village Has Shipped Over 3 Million Units Globally

9 hours 14 minutes ago
Since its launch on May 7, Resident Evil Village has shipped over 3 million units globally. Capcom announced the news in a press release, revealing that this newest entry available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC is off to a strong start. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/05/07/13-things-you-need-to-know-before-starting-re-village"] Since 1996, cumulative shipments of Resident Evil games have exceeded 100 million and Village builds upon the success of Resident Evil 7 biohazard, which itself has shipped 8.5 million units as of December 31, 2020. This news also follows Capcom's announcement that it has hit record-high profits for the fourth consecutive year, in big part due to the releases of both Monster Hunter Rise and the remake of Resident Evil 3. In our Resident Evil Village review, we said that playing it "is like visiting a disturbing and deadly Disneyland, where every attraction is a house of horrors.

Resident Evil Village has already hit 3 million shipments and digital sales

10 hours 41 minutes ago

Capcom has finally revealed the launch numbers for its newest survival horror sequel, Resident Evil Village. Available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms, Ethan Winters journey into a sepia-tinged nightmare has amassed over three million global shipments and digital sales in the few days following its May 7 launch.

This highly impressive number sees Resident Evil Village surpass the launch of 2017's Resident Evil VII and is more or less equal to the incredible launch numbers attained by 2019 remake Resident Evil 2. Resident Evil Village also made its debut at the number one spot of the UK charts. In addition, the success of Village pushes sales for the entire Resident Evil franchise beyond the 100 million mark. That's a helluva lot of scares.

Earlier this year fans reversed engineered the source code to Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. They released it to the web, but Grand Theft Auto copyright holder Take-Two pulled it offline via a DMCA claim. But one fan stood up to the publisher and has now succeeded in getting the…

Frankenstein's Army Director Claims Resident Evil Village Monsters Are Based Off His Designs

Resident Evil Village has a ton of new monsters for Mr. Ethan Winters to face, but not all of them are totally original designs. At least according to Frankenstein's Army director Richard Raaphorst.

Raaphorst took to LinkedIn and Twitter to draw similarities between his designs and those of some of the creatures in Resident Evil Village. The similarities are so striking, that even his fans began taking to social media in order to point out the seemingly carbon-copied takes on those that go bump in the night. For direct side-by-side shots, Twitter user @CloneKorp broke it down in the simplest way, showing side-by-side shots of Village monsters next to their Frankenstein's Army counterparts:

After 20 years as a console game, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is getting a PC port. (Not to be confused with D&D: Dark Alliance, the new spiritual successor coming this summer.) Dev turns The Room 4: Old Sins' creepy old dollhouse into a gorgeous Lego build

18 hours 11 minutes ago

Lego is (as a year in lockdown with a whole lot to time to assemble plastic bricks has taught me) cool, and developer Fireproof Games' gorgeously atmospheric The Room puzzle series is, among many other good things, cool too. So it should come as absolutely no surprise to anyone that combining the two results in a very cool thing indeed.

The architect of this particular very cool thing is Fireproof Games' own graphic and motion designer Roger Schembri who, under the name Lego CustardKid, has previously submitted a number of creations to the endlessly impressive Lego Ideas website, including an elaborate ornamental safe inspired by the original The Room.

The Room 4: Old Sins' Dollhouse (as spotted by Kotaku) is Schembri's most ambitious Lego Ideas build yet, lovingly recreating the game's deliciously sinister enchanted dollhouse - itself a detailed recreation of The Room 4's Waldegrave Manor - in impressively miniaturised detail.

VVVVVV Creator's Next Game Is Entirely Made in Roblox

18 hours 26 minutes ago
The creator of VVVVVV, Terry Cavanagh, has just released his next game -- but unlike VVVVVV, you won't find it on typical storefronts. Instead, in order to play Climb the Giant Man Obby, you'll need to venture into Roblox. In a blog post, Cavanagh announced the "obby," which is Roblox shorthand for "obstacle course" (or just a platformer) and a popular genre to make among first-time creators on Roblox. "For the past year or so, I’ve been kinda fascinated by Roblox – a massively popular multiplayer game platform, mostly aimed at kids," Cavanagh writes. "So recently, I decided to try making a game for it!" [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2021/02/24/roblox-freeze-tag-trailer"] "I didn’t expect how much I was going to love working in Roblox Studio," Cavanagh added. "I’ve been working on this on-and-off for about three months, which makes it one of my biggest freeware projects ever." Cavanagh detailed his development journey with Roblox in a lengthy Twitter thread that goes back to the end of March. The thread offers glimpses of his process of adapting to Roblox's creation tools as Cavanagh first attempted to recreate the outfit worn by the fellow in the "How do you do, fellow kids?" meme, then turned his player character wearing that outfit into a giant man to then build a climbable obstacle course around. The ensuring obby has, per Cavanagh, about 30 or so "stages" which include obstacles like giant rotating fidget spinners, extremely narrow platforms, and ziplines.

Resident Evil Village mods are extremely unsettling already

18 hours 44 minutes ago

Resident Evil Village modders have been working frighteningly fast. Not long after the game's free demo was available on PC, they'd already put Thomas The Tank Engine's head on very tall Lady Dimitrescu and also turned enemies into Barney. Those are funny, don't get me wrong, but they're part of the expected suite of PC mods these days. Someone always adds Thomas, right? Resident Evil Village has properly launched now, and things are getting weirder very quickly, as proven by Ethan and Mia Winters' terrible baby Chris Redfield.

A New Halo Infinite Trailer Is Being Teased

19 hours 13 minutes ago

It looks like a new Halo Infinite trailer is dropping very soon for those itching to see more Craig the Brute. Halo Infinite's Joseph Staten took to Twitter to share an update for his week, and it very much looks like he's teasing a new trailer for the ongoing Master Chief tale.

343 Industries recently stated that it would have more to share on Halo Infinite "soon," and it looks like "soon" could very well be this month. Even more so with Staten's follow-up tweet, which you can see below:

The "117" is obviously a reference to John 117, also known as Master Chief. Sneaky, sneaky Staten!

Nine Inch Nails And Animal Crossing: New Horizons Collide With 'Nine Inch Nooks'

19 hours 59 minutes ago

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of the most wholesome games out on the market. Nine Inch Nails is definitely not one of the most wholesome bands, but that doesn't stop me from simping Trent Reznor and his delectable dark tunes. So when I saw a mashup of the two worlds with a Nine Inch Nooks Closer cover, it was just too weird not to share.

The cover was made by Jenn Welch and is a shot-by-shot remake of Nine Inch Nail's Closer song. If you're a fan like I am of Reznor's music, then you know what the lyrics to this are, so uh, it makes sense then that Welch would use a version of the song without lyrics, instead using vocal sounds from the game when bringing it into the realm of Animal Crossing:

Click here to watch embedded media

I'm not going to lie, it's pretty perfect, especially when you compare it to the original music video for Closer. Is this the crossover I was expecting to see? Not even remotely, but I can tell you that I'm not even close to being mad at it.

Gears 5 developers won't be announcing new games "for some time"

20 hours 3 minutes ago

Gears 5 has been out for nearly a couple years now, but don't start thinking about Gears 6, or Gears anything, for a while. The Coalition still have plans to bring more maps and characters to Gears 5 in two more Operations, they say, but the studio is also focusing on transitioning to the newest Unreal Engine. That's going to take most of their attention, so we shouldn't be expecting to hear about new Gears games for a while, they've warned.
