The Community Spotlight 2022.10.08

1 year 6 months ago

Welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight! I, @zombiepie, am once again honored to be your host as we look back at the best community-created works from the last week. That said, one important site-related news item dominated the the talk on the site the last week and we will discuss that news item shortly. However, regardless of where you stand regarding Fandom's purchase of the site, I think we can all agree the staff have shown with the Giant Bombathon that there is a collection of excited people and guests that want to continue putting up a great show for all to enjoy. I don't want this to come across as a sales pitch, but as we will review shortly, there are some exciting things coming up in the future that give me and many others confidence that the future is brighter than some might want you to believe.

News

Obviously the big news item everyone is talking about is Fandom's purchase of the site from Red Ventures. While many in the community have expressed concern over the purchase, various staff from Giant Bomb and GameSpot have come forward to affirm that Fandom has guaranteed all staff will keep their jobs, titles, and salaries. If you have yet to see Tam's Giant Bombathon post-mortem Tweet thread about his excitement for the future of Giant Bomb, definitely check that out and be assured that the people working on and with the site care about the community and want to continue to provide the best #content on the internet.

For those wondering about the archive of the Bombathon, please expect a delay given that the staff used Friday to travel back to their homes. The event will be archived at some point on the site, but for now, you can watch the VOD on Giant Bomb's Twitch account.

Speaking of the Giant Bombathon, let's give a huge shoutout to Jan, Jess, and Jason for all of the hard work they did behind the scenes to make the Giant Bombathon livestream able to run! Also, many thanks to all of the other staff that had fun and joined!

On Monday, October 17th MinnMax will be hosting another edition of Trivia Tower that will feature almost all of the Giant Bomb staff and pit them against the faces of IGN, Kinda Funny, Easy Allies, What's Good Games, and NoClip! Be aware this live streaming event is being done to raise money for charity.

Finally, Giant Bomb's Extra Life team page is nearing the $5,000 mark and has 32 members! If you want to join the fun and raise money for charity, click the link! It only takes a few minutes to do so, and even if you can only stream for a few hours, every bit counts!
