Dying Light Is Leaping To Switch With New Platinum Edition

2 years 7 months ago

The first Dying Light is on its way to Switch by way of a new Platinum Edition. The shiny moniker signifies this as the definitive edition of the 2015 zombie open-world game. The best part about the move to Switch; you can now play those scary night missions outside in broad daylight.

Techland announced the port during their Gamescom developer video blog for Dying Light 2. The team describes Platinum Edition as “the most content-packed edition we have ever released”, featuring over 100 hours of gameplay to enjoy alone or in co-op. Though not explicitly stated, one would assume that the title contains every content update and expansion, such as The Following and Hellraid. If so, that’s a whole lot of game on one cartridge. Techland promises to go into details about the port in the near future, so it hopefully won’t be too long before know for sure.

For fans of owning physical carts, Techland sweetens the deal with a package full of goodies. The boxed version of Platinum Edition includes the base game as well as a survival guide filled with tips and tricks, a two-sided map of Harran, and stickers. Who doesn’t want stickers?

Big Phasmophobia Update Adds New Ghosts, Better Equipment, And More

2 years 7 months ago

Exposition is the latest Phasmophobia update, bringing with it a substantial amount of new content for players to enjoy and for me to be terrified by. Not only is the gear in-game getting some much-needed upgrades, but there are new ghosts to scare the pants off of us, as well.

What's new in Phasmophobia?

Let's get started with one aspect that has never failed to frustrate me: sprinting. By that, I mean in the beginning, you couldn't do it. Technically, you "could," but realistically? There was no change in pace. Then that slowly got a little better, but now players can sprint for three seconds with an increased speed at a five-second recharge rate. Walking speed has also changed, now at the same pace as the "old sprinting."

Two new ghosts have also been added with the Myling and the Goryo, which means new equipment is needed to ensure you survive the hunt. With the DOTS Projector, it will be a little bit easier to discover evidence when trying to narrow down which type of nasty is hunting you, though be careful. The new update also makes it to where if you have electronic equipment on hand, the ghostie will know exacly where you are.

New Metroid Dread Trailer Shows Off A Different Kind Of Enemy

2 years 7 months ago

Metroid Dread is just around the corner with a release set for October, and to celebrate its impending launch, Nintendo just dropped a brand new trailer to enjoy. The latest video dives a little deeper into the various enemies that Samus Aran will face, those that aim to come out of the shadows of the planet of ZDR to cause some serious chaos.

The latest trailer, seen below, shows off more of Samus' moves while taking down familiar enemies and new foes alike while also showing off her "ability amnesia." According to Nintendo's recollection, Samus has been defeated by "a mysterious opponent," and because of that, she has lost all of her abilities that we've become familiar with through the years. Luckily, she managed to escape death, but Metroid Dread will explore exactly how that happened and why she was left behind.

The large figure she faces off against in the above video is a Chozo, a race known for its intelligence and technological advancement. With a goal towards achieving galactic peace, the Chozo eventually splintered off, scattering into the galaxy, becoming a rare species to be seen. While largely a peaceful people, this culture still has its own "Chozo warriors," and from the moves seen above? They are not to be messed with.

Is The Moonlight Greatsword In Elden Ring?

2 years 7 months ago

Publisher: Bandai Namco
Developer: From Software
Release:
Rating: Rating Pending
Platform: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC

We had a chance to look at around fifteen minutes of new Elden Ring footage yesterday and also, to ask a few brief questions to From Software’s Yasuhiro Kitao. Of course, one of the questions absolutely had to be – is the Moonlight Greatsword in the game? The glowy, laser-tinged greatsword has been a staple in From Software’s titles since King’s Field, sort of like a mascot weapon, and was noticeably absent in Sekiro.

Is No More Heroes 3 Worth Playing? | Review Impressions

2 years 7 months ago

Click to watch embedded media

We here at Game Informer like to ask the hard questions. What's the meaning of life? Will we ever get a proper Half-Life 3? Is No More Heroes 3 a worthy successor in the long-running series? While we can't help you with answers to the first two questions, we sure can assist with the last one.

Join Alex Stadnik and John Carson, the game's reviewer, to discuss the official Game Informer review for No More Heroes 3! We start our time highlighting the good, for which there is much, according to Mr. Carson. The game is dripping with style and boasts the same wild humor and slick visuals fans have come to know the series for. The combat can also be a lot of fun as players chop their way through a hoard of bizarre and fascinating enemy types. Those fights also culminate in exciting boss fights that epitomize No More Heroes 3's exhilarating combat experience.

But it's not all good news, unfortunately. Developer Grasshopper Manufacture misses the mark a bit when it comes to the game's open world, which suffers from significant performance issues. In between boss fights, Travis will need to accrue money for an entrance fee to continue his quest, resulting in sometimes mundane and uninteresting activities such as picking up trash.

No More Heroes 3 Review – Dead Or Alive

2 years 7 months ago

Publisher: Grasshopper Manufacture
Developer: Grasshopper Manufacture
Release:
Reviewed on: Switch

Suda 51 and Grasshopper Manufacture’s nerdy assassin Travis Touchdown returns in the first numbered No More Heroes in over a decade. Many of the series’ telltale features return, including stylish trimmings, Beam Katana battles, and completing mundane yard work to earn a buck. No More Heroes 3 is best when the action is heavy, and the absurdity in cutscenes is full-bore, but the open world padding between each thrilling melee arena or assassin duel hamstrings the experience.

CatDog And April O’Neil Are Coming To Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl

2 years 7 months ago

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl isn’t even out yet and already there are Super Smash Bros. levels of hype for new characters being announced to the roster. Today during the Future Games Show at Gamescom 2021, these characters were both announced. April O’Neil, the famous reporter from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, already had a Gamescom spotlight earlier this week when it was revealed she would be a playable character in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. CatDog, however, is ready to attack with the duality of cat and dogs, together in some sort of absurd amalgamation. What moves do they have? How do they play? You can check out trailers for both characters here.

Dino Park Simulator Prehistoric Kingdom Enters Closed Beta In December

2 years 7 months ago

Prehistoric Kingdom is out to prove there’s enough room in this town for multiple dinosaur theme park simulators. While the Jurassic World Evolution games tread much of the same ground, Prehistoric Kingdom isn’t bound to a license and offers another choice for fans of raising dinosaurs and charging people to see them.

As a park manager, you have the tools to craft the dino zoo of your dreams. You can raise mountains, create rivers, and grow jungles to create your ideal terrain. You’ll then construct buildings and enclosures to house staff, entertain guests, and, of course, provide shelter for your collection of extinct critters. The structures you’ll build to keep your patrons happy include various exhibits, restaurants, and, perhaps most important, bathrooms.

For Fans Of Destiny’s Central Storyline, Now Is The Time To Jump Back In

2 years 7 months ago

Destiny 2’s Season of the Lost launched on Tuesday, and like many longtime fans of the franchise, that’s a moment of renewal and excitement for me that merits increased playtime and engagement. The full scope and story of that season remain to be revealed, so it would be unfair to make too many cut-and-dry judgments at this point. But no matter what else this season brings to the game, one thing is clear; after several side treks and setups throughout the last few seasons, the narrative scope has now shifted back to its central thrust. If you’ve been away from the game for a while, it’s an excellent time to jump back in and get up to speed.

I certainly don’t want to sound dismissive of recent seasons, as I think gameplay, investment loops, and storytelling have been in solid places for some time now. The Season of the Hunt set up some intriguing bowling pins with the return of a reborn Uldren Sov, the Season of the Chosen charted a fun deep-dive into the Cabal power structure, and the recent Season of the Splicer helped further the story of the Last City, the Fallen, and humanity’s shifting alliances. These seasons also offered fun new activities and an engaging weekly loop that invited even casual players to feel engaged in a living tale.

Nintendo Console Designer Leaves Company After Nearly 39 Years

2 years 7 months ago

You might not be familiar with Lance Barr's name, but if you are a fan of games, you're definitely familiar with Barr's work.

Back in the halcyon days of 1982, Nintendo hired Barr to be the company's design and brand director. Barr's first job was actually to design arcade cabinets for the US market. Still, the designer eventually went on to transform Nintendo's Japanese console designs to better suit the western market. Notedly, Barr was behind the design of the NES.

Overwatch Dev Team Changes McCree's Name In Light of Activision Blizzard Lawsuit

2 years 7 months ago

The state of California is currently suing Activision Blizzard following a two-year investigation into the company's behind closed doors workplace culture. The lawsuit addresses various labor abuse allegations, including sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and a "frat boy" culture regarding internal behavior. The suit also detailed instances of harassment which also allegedly led to one developer committing suicide. Following the announcement that Diablo 4 lead director Jesse McCree has been removed from the company since the allegations became public, the Overwatch developer team has made a noteworthy change to one of the heroes seen in-game, a hero that was named after the developer.

The official Overwatch Twitter page shared a new message with fans, explaining why the change felt necessary while the company wrestles with where to go next. "We build the Overwatch universe around the idea that inclusivity, equity, and hope are the building blocks of a better future," begins the letter. "They are central to the game and to the Overwatch team."

Punch Monsters In The Face With Street Fighter's Akuma In Monster Hunter Rise

2 years 7 months ago

This week, Monster Hunter Rise has an update adding new event quests for hunters to complete. Those who take on these tasks will be rewarded with an awesome new layered armor styled after Akuma from Street Fighter.

Click here to watch embedded media

Styled after the Street Fighter V version of the master of the Satsui no Hado, this skin of Akuma featuring a lion-like mane can be fitted over any armor set. According to the footage in the trailer, hunters wearing the Akuma armor will have access to some of the warrior’s move set. There looks to be a way to throw fireballs on the ground and in the air, a unique trait Akuma has over other Shotos in Street Fighter. He also can do a stationary Tatsumaki Zankukyaku and a jumping palm strike, both moves presumably replacing the animations for a wirebug attack while using a sword and shield.

Epic And Time Studios Launch Martin Luther King Jr. Educational Experience In Fortnite

2 years 7 months ago

Fornite has hosted brand cross-overs and digital concerts featuring real-life celebrities, but it hasn’t held many events that would be normally be deemed “educational”. That’s changing, as Epic and Time Studios have partnered up to launch an in-game experience dedicated to the work of Martin Luther King Jr.

To answer what’s likely your immediate questions, no this is not a competitive event in the slightest nor is Dr. King appearing as an in-game character or purchasable skin. Rather, the event, called March Through Time, celebrates the upcoming anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom (August 28) by letting players peacefully watch the entirety of the late civil rights leader’s I Have A Dream speech within the world of Fortnite. The event kicks off today and is described as a year-long experience.

Players are transported to a “reimagined” version of Washington D.C. in 1963. As seen in the trailer, the event serves as an interactive museum of sorts, with players engaging with historical points of interest around the National Mall and Lincoln Memorial. Completing cooperative mini-games rewards a special “D.C. 63” spray.

Bravely Default 2 Arrives On Steam Next Month

2 years 7 months ago

If you've been holding out to play Bravely Default 2 on PC, that wait is almost over. Bravely Default 2 is officially coming to Steam next month, making it the first time this game has seen an official launch on PC following its Nintendo Switch exclusivity.

The RPG is making its PC debut on September 2, 2021. Even better, interested players can snag a copy for 10% off if they purchase the game on Steam between now and September 13, for those looking to save a few bucks. The move over to PC is a great one for the former Nintendo Switch exclusive. The title has had time to breathe as an exclusive on the handheld platform, now it's time for others to be able to join in on the fun, as well. Plus, can you imagine the mods? I'm in heaven.

Our own Daniel Tack loved his time with the game, rating it an 8 out of 10 in his review. "Bravely Default II succeeds at delivering what it’s best at offering a taste of the past with the emphasis on creative class combinations, hordes of foes, and big boss battles," he said. "Bravely Default II deftly harnesses some of the ancient enchantment of classic grind-and-go console RPGs – but don’t expect anything beyond that."

To learn more about the adventure that centers around new heroes in a brand new story, check out our dedicated game hub here. You can learn more about our thoughts on the title, why you should play it, and the road thus far.

Cover Reveal – Marvel’s Midnight Suns

2 years 7 months ago

Marvel is on a tear. We all know that the company has been a dominant force in comics and films for some time, but that powerhouse has recently begun to make a more significant push into the game space. Insomniacs’ two Spider-Man games are huge standouts, but last year’s Avengers title from Crystal Dynamics also offered a fun narrative campaign, and this year’s Guardians of the Galaxy from Eidos-Montreal looks to deliver a rollercoaster sci-fi epic backed by meaningful player choice. Not to mention, if you go on the marketplace of your mobile device, you’ll find several Marvel games – such as Marvel Strike Force – spread across multiple genres.

As if that wasn’t enough, next year, we’ll see the release of Marvel’s Midnight Suns, a brand-new strategy-RPG from Firaxis, the studio behind iconic strategy series like Civilization and XCOM. Firaxis’ XCOM team is working on Midnight Suns, and the team aims to offer its rich knowledge of strategy systems while exploring the darker side of the Marvel universe. NBA 2K22 Brings Back The W, Adding A New Badge Progression System

2 years 7 months ago

Last year, the new-gen versions of NBA 2K21 introduced The W, which let you create your own WNBA MyPlayer for the first time and build your own path to stardom by playing for one of the league’s 12 teams. NBA 2K22 wants to build off its success and make the experience even more authentic, putting an emphasis on making calculated decisions that will positively or negatively impact how you progress during your career.

Today, Visual Concepts highlighted more of what that would involve in its latest Courtside Report, stating there will be greater rewards and bigger consequences depending on how your actions. You’ll also have the opportunity to grow your skills and renown by making connections with WNBA superstars who will help you boost various abilities.

One big addition is getting an all-new badge progression system being added to the mode. You can customize your badges freely, allowing you to create unique builds depending on your player’s specialties. Badges come in four categories: finishing, shooting, playmaking, and defense. When you create your MyPlayer, the badges available will appear next to your attributes. By playing games, you’ll earn badge points, and once you earn enough to fill a meter, you can equip or upgrade a badge.

Pokémon Go's Social-Distancing Measures Are Expanding Again After Fan Backlash

2 years 7 months ago

Update:
Niantic is reversing course on one of the most controversial changes made to Pokémon Go during the pandemic. The range to which players can interact with Pokéstops and gyms is again expanding from 40 meters to 80. This change was announced in a series of tweets on Pokémon Go's official channel and comes just weeks after Niantic reverted it back to the shorter. Fans complained that Niantic was reverting the game back to its pre-pandemic form too quickly and that the company wasn't paying attention to the latest pandemic developments – namely the rise of the Delta variant. It's great to see Niantic listening to its fans and again making the game safer for all players.

The tweets also reveal other "plans" are on the way for the popular game, but we won't learn what those are until September 1. The change to the Pokéstop distance is effective immediately and it doesn't sound like it will ever change again.

Arby's Now Sells Official Dungeons & Dragons Dice, Because Naturally

2 years 7 months ago

Arby's is no stranger to showing that gaming love, but they are taking that tabletop passion to a new level with official D&D dice. As far as we're aware, they don't come with meat in them, so this is the first time the company isn't "bringing the meat," and can we all just take a moment to be thankful for that.

The fast-food chain took to Twitter to share our first look at its new Dungeons & Dragons dice, which are available now to purchase. In the image below, you can see that the dice set is translucent with an itty bitty Arby's logo hat tucked away inside. The set is kind of cute, not going to lie, though a little more pizzaz could have been nifty. Judge for yourself:

Monster Rancher Returns In A New Bundle For Switch And PC

2 years 7 months ago

Click here to watch embedded media

Koei Tecmo today announced the return of Monster Rancher as a retro collection that will release on Switch and PC on December 9. The collection brings back Monster Rancher and Monster Rancher 2, two titles that originally released on PlayStation in 1997 and 1999.

In the announcement video above, executive producer Kazumi Fujita said that the series is returning for its 25th anniversary. Both games featured in the Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX bundle feature multiplayer support, and the monsters are re-balanced.

The big hook of the Monster Rancher games is collecting monsters. On PlayStation, this feat was accomplished by removing the Monster Rancher disc from the console and replacing it with any other game. That disc would then be read and transformed into a specific monster. Some Koei Tecmo games created specific rare monsters. I remember sitting on my living room floor with stacks of games around me in an attempt to get the best monsters possible.

Jett: The Far Shore | New Gameplay Today

2 years 7 months ago

Click to watch embedded media

Ever since its debut at the PlayStation 5 digital event last year, Jett: The Far Shore has tantalized sci-fi fans with its ethereal atmosphere and exciting concept.

Developer Superbrothers' indie title gets a little less abstract today as we've finally gotten to get our hands-on Jett: The Far Shore! Join Jill Grodt and Alex Stadnik as they take you on a tour of the game's early level and describe what it's like to sail through this PlayStation console exclusive.

Jett: The Far Shore features its central characters running from a dying world, awoken after a long space sleep, and tasked with finding a new home. The game starts slow and lulls the player into a flash sense of security with a bizarre new play space and tons of new creatures and geography to explore. But as the game continues, players will be tasked with evading danger instead of facing it head-on in their quest to start a new life in the stars.

If Superbrothers' new title sounds appealing, you don't have long to wait as Jett: The Far Shore releases on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC on October 5.

Destiny 2: Season Of The Lost Continues Bungie's Recent Pivot To A More Raw, Honest Form Of Storytelling

2 years 7 months ago

Much like the first Destiny, Destiny 2 fell into a rut at launch. The game launched under the Activision helm as its publisher and while the team did include a more in-depth story as requested from fans of the first game, the endgame content and most immediate subsequent expansions did little to connect with players. Between the controversies of paywalls, convoluted narratives, and a grind that didn't seem to be going anywhere, Destiny 2's future started out in a precarious place. Then Bungie separated from Activision and became its own studio once more and while unraveling influence on that scale takes time, we first saw the teams gain their footing with the Forsaken DLC (which was pre-separation, but marked a significant turning point in how the storytelling evolved), and then again with Shadowkeep. Where Bungie truly found its rhythm was with the Season of the Chosen and Splicer, weaving meaningful tales that go beyond what we've seen before within the game. Bungie explored themes only briefly touched on in the past and that decision continues to pay off.

Tales Of Luminaria Brings A "Revolutionary New Tale" To Mobile

2 years 7 months ago

Tales of Arise is a scant 2 weeks away from release, but Bandai Namco decided that just one Tales game wasn’t enough for its fans. Why not have another Tales title waiting in the wings, not for console, but rather for mobile.

During Gamescom Opening Night Live, this new mobile game titled Tales of Luminaria was announced in a very quick trailer. Using 3D characters and environments like its console counterparts, Luminaria looks like it could deliver an action-packed experience similar to other recent games in the series. The trailer's opening features shots of the series protagonists from over the years; then this appears on the screen: “Throughout the decades there have been countless Tales. And now, in a new world… A revolutionary new Tale is about to be told!” Then we’re treated to the art of this new Tales world. We see a forest location with glowing green energy bursting from a structure in the background and a vast, mysterious city shrouded in the eerie light of an eclipse.

After confirming with our resident Tales expert, Kimberley Wallace, Luminaria looks to feature an original cast for this new adventure. I counted at least ten characters shown in rapid succession, both in battle and running around the game world. From fiery swordsmen to mages who look like Dracula, and magical heroines, Tales of Luminaria checks all the JRPG boxes.

Death Stranding Director’s Cut Trailer Gives Extended Look At New Features

2 years 7 months ago

Death’s Stranding Director’s Cut closed out Gamescom Opening Night Live with an extended look at its new features designed to make the divisive experience both easier and more action-packed.

Descending from high terrain just got easier thanks to rocket stabilizers attached to Sam’s suit. These tiny jets allow players to hover in mid-air almost Iron Man-style, allowing players to make controlled descents to the ground and minimizing landing impact.

Getting packages from point A to point B is faster (and more hilarious) by using a catapult to launch parcels over long distances. If that’s too reckless but you don’t want to carry the load on your own, your handy buddy bot can take it off your hands. This robotic pair of legs can not only lug deliveries for you but you can also hop atop it for a nice ride. If you prefer driving your motorcycle, Sam can now perform goofy stunt tricks in mid-air after launching off-ramps. Want to test your racing prowess? Timed race challenges let you complete courses against the recorded ghost of other players to see who can finish tracks the fastest.

Become A Master Martial Artist When Sifu Drops In Early 2022

2 years 7 months ago

Sifu looks like a classic martial arts movie – no impossible flips or flashy wall-running, just fluid, devastating chain attacks and methodical combat stances. Sloclaps’s latest action title was first announced earlier this year, but a release date didn’t come attached to the reveal. By now, we’ve seen our fair share of Sifu gameplay, and today that elusive announcement was finally made concrete. Sifu is slated to drop during the first quarter of next year.

Click here to watch embedded media

A young martial artist loses everyone and everything he loves at the hand of a mysterious group of assassins. Over the course of one day, he’ll fight off waves of ruffians and gangsters while uncovering the truth behind his own tragic past. Combining different strikes and utilizing the environment - this includes wall-slamming, ledges, and even advantageously places blunt objects – is the key to surviving. Death, however, awaits the young fighter at every turn. The powers that be age him incrementally every time he is defeated. Perhaps, this mechanic symbolizes the futility of senseless violence and vengeance.

From The Creator Of Tomb Raider, Dream Cycle Is A New 'Ever-Growing' Adventure Game Coming Soon

2 years 7 months ago

Click to watch embedded media

Gamescom 2021 Opening Night Live is officially a wrap, and one of the many announcements was that of Dream Cycle. Dream Cycle is an "ever-growing" action-adventure game from Toby Gard, the creator of the original Tomb Raider. So what is Dream Cycle? Glad you asked.

”Dream Cycle is the foundation of a journey into the endless unknown, an ever-growing portal into adventure,” said Gard about his latest adventure. “Join our community of explorers and help us build a new type of action-adventure game, where gods, monsters, and magic filter through the psyche of the modern world.”

Don't expect this game to play like Tomb Raider from days of old; it is very much its own experience. This fantasy adventure will transform players into Morgan Carter, an arcane apprentice who must defeat those who have corrupted the Dreamlands to destroy the curse placed upon it. Players will get in touch with their stealth side while utilizing spells and various tricks to get ahead in combat. Or, you can go the Liana Route and just go ham and destroy everything in your path like a bull in a china shop; dealer's choice.

For a complete breakdown of all of Aloy’s moves, check out the official PlayStation blog here. However, reading about her moveset is one thing – seeing it is quite another. "The Mosasaurus must live again!" This was my battle cry going into a two-hour hands-on session with Jurassic World Evolution 2. As an avid fan of the 2018 game, I didn't think I would have many issues building a park in the sequel. I then met the scientists: new helpers who completely change how park-building and dinosaur-hatching are handled. Whether digging up an old fossil or researching new technology, you'll need to assign scientists to the task. Each scientist has different pros and cons, which you'll have to gauge when you hire them and put them to work. Much like the dinosaurs that call your park home, the scientists are living beings who will need to be cared for. If you overwork them, you'll have problems on your hands.

After a few minutes of struggling with the new gameplay flow (and learning my scientists need sleep), I found my groove and soon had the resources I needed to build the lagoon. The Mosasaurus isn't the only sea creature you can release. I could have excavated fossils for a Plesiosaurus. A Frontier Developments representative also told me other water-based dinosaurs unlock as the game progresses. I'm guessing one of those is likely the Ichthyosaurs.
