This is the moment Overwatch 1 died forever

1 year 5 months ago

Six years after its launch, the original Overwatch is no more, with Blizzard having now forever pulled the plug on the game in preparation for Overwatch 2's free-to-play arrival tomorrow.

Fans gathered earlier today to witness the final moments of Overwatch, recording the momentous occasion for posterity. Despite its place in the gaming pantheon, though, it met an unceremonious end, blinking out of existing with a simple "disconnected" message.

A few official lobby chat server messages did at least attempt to imbue the occasion with some import, telling players, "Even the best journeys end, but a new one is right around the corner. Thank you, heroes! See you October 4th!". A final message ahead of Overwatch 1's oblivion simply read, "See you on the other side".

FIFA 23 Review - Form Is Temporary

FIFA 23

Reviewed on: Xbox Series X/S

Publisher: Electronic Arts
Developer: EA Canada
Release:
Rating: Everyone

Much like my Liverpool fandom over the past 20 years, I vacillate between happily obsessive and begrudgingly bewildered with FIFA. Like Liverpool, when FIFA works like a well-oiled machine, play on the field is beautiful, slick, and drives my football-loving brain to elation with dopamine hits. However, FIFA 23 feels like FIFA 22, which was similar to FIFA 21, with additions ranging from mildly impactful to invigorating.

FIFA has focused on one facet of soccer for years: the attack. It’s almost arcade-like when you feel how quickly and smoothly players change pace from a controlled dribble to a sprint. Cross-field balls behind defenders for a winger to rush onto are exhilarating. The much-debated trick stick is hard to master, but even a couple of flicks can launch an audacious stepover or the famous Maradona spin to beat a defender.

Who Is Gilbert in Hocus Pocus 2? Answered

1 year 5 months ago

Disney’s newest sequel, Hocus Pocus 2, is finally here to enchant audiences. A sequel to the 1993 cult classic, this new entry brings back the classic Sanderson witches, while also introducing a bevy of new characters for viewers to enjoy. One such character is Gilbert, and fans may be curious as to who this new character is. Here’s everything you need to know about Gilbert, the new character in Hocus Pocus 2.

Hocus Pocus 2 Gilbert Identity Explained

In Hocus Pocus 2, Gilbert is the new owner of the Sanderson sisters’ old home, the Olde Town Magic Shoppe. He has retrofitted this home into a museum and gift shop, as he is a vendor with a heavy interest in witchcraft. He also is the one who helps push the film’s plot into motion: he gifts new characters Becca and Izzy with a new Black Flame Candle that brings the sisters back to life.

Gilbert is portrayed by Sam Richardson. He had his big breakout performance with his portrayal of Richard Splett in HBO’s Veep and was later nominated for an Emmy Award for his performance in Ted Lasso. He may also seem familiar to some, as he had a leading role in Werewolves Within, the film adaptation of Ubisoft’s VR social deduction game.

That’s all you need to know about the new Hocus Pocus 2 character, Gilbert. Check back to Twinfinite to learn more about the film, and re-familiarize yourself with it by reading up on all the returning actors.

Overwatch Players Celebrate the End of an Era By Putting Down Their Guns & Dancing

1 year 5 months ago

While it’s no secret that Overwatch has languished over the past three years, especially with a severe content drought that left things pretty stale overall, it’s one of the most popular and impactful hero shooter games we’ve ever seen. With Overwatch 2 on the horizon, Blizzard is taking down the Overwatch servers in preparation for the sequel’s launch.

And how do players spend their final moments in the game? By triggering overtime on Hanamura to dance and emote around Lucio until the servers shut down, of course.

Overwatch streamer Frogger posted a short clip of the server’s final moments, as all 12 players gathered on the point without attacking each other to trigger overtime so that the match goes on indefinitely. Say what you will about Overwatch and its mismanagement, but it’s definitely been a good six-year run, thanks to all the memories we’ve made in this game.

Overwatch 2 is set to be released for PC and consoles on Oct. 4.

How Did Otto Become Hand of the King Again in House of the Dragon? Answered

1 year 5 months ago

The position of Hand of the King (or Queen) is one of importance in House of the Dragon, not to mention granting incredible power. Anyone who holds the position is the second most powerful person in Westeros, the king or queen being first. Otto Hightower was Viserys’ Hand originally but was removed from his position. So, how did Otto become Hand of the King again in House of the Dragon?

Why IS Otto Hand of the King Again in House of the Dragon?

Otto Hightower became Hand of the King again due to the death of Lyonel Strong in episode 6 of House of the Dragon. It’s unclear as to who suggested the idea for Otto to return as the Hand, but the decision would have been pushed by either Alicent Hightower or King Viserys.

With Lyonel Strong dead, very few individuals are even qualified for the position, and considering how weaker Viserys is getting, the decision is likely out of familiarity. Either way, Otto being reinstated as the Hand is a dangerous one; it’s through Otto’s self-serving actions that gave rise to much of the conflict in House of the Dragon.

Although Otto Hightower had very few vocal scenes in episode 7, there’s something different about him, an arrogance that he likely picked up in Oldtown. In the past, Otto was far more tight-lipped about the intention behind his decisions. Once he sees that Alicent is willing to play the game of thrones, Otto is completely open about his plans of usurping Viserys.

What Does ‘Fortnite Servers Not Responding’ Mean? Explained & How To Fix

1 year 5 months ago

Attention all Fortnite gamers, the servers are down and we need your help to bring them back up so you can get back to hitting the griddy with Goku at Tilted Towers. All that’s needed is to check out all of the information below to find out what the ‘Fortnite Servers Not Responding’ message means and how to fix the issue.

What Does ‘Fortnite Servers Not Responding’ Mean? Explained & How To Fix

It’s pretty obvious why you’re here right now. Fortnite is down and the message, ‘Fornite Servers Not Responding’ is popping up. Truly, there is no worse fate than having a play session interrupted by issues with the game. Fortunately, there are a couple of troubleshooting steps that may resolve the issue.

Restart Your Device

The best way to make sure that the issue isn’t actually your own hardware is to first restart whatever device is trying to launch the game. Sometimes a computer, phone, or game system just needs to restart so it can get a new IP.

Check Your Network Connection

If restarting the computer doesn’t work, then the next step is to make sure that the network your device is connected to is functioning properly.

The first part of resolving a possible network issue is restarting both your modem and router. Power down both (or just one if it’s a combination modem/router), then power the modem back on until it shows you have an internet connection. Next, reconnect the router to power. Follow the steps below if the issue continues.

Wired Network

On a wired connection, unplug then reconnect the ethernet cable on both ends to make sure there’s a solid connection.

Fortnite Currently Going Through Lengthy Server Downtime

1 year 5 months ago

While Fortnite always goes into downtime before the release of a big patch, we’re currently seeing a much earlier downtime start with an uncertain end keeping players out of the game currently. It is uncertain if the downtime will end before the release of the patch tomorrow, which might be the longest the game has been down since the transition into the launch for Chapter 3 Season 3.

The downtime first started at 4:00 PM ET, which had to happen “due to an issue” that wasn’t further explained. Usually, downtime starts very early morning, typically 4 AM ET, when the least amount of players are in the game.

Those who are concerned need not worry, the @FortniteStatus Twitter account does reassure everyone that this early downtime start won’t delay the release of Update 22.10.

You can see the original announcement for the downtime below, this is why you aren’t able to play Fortnite right now.

New Marvel Snap Season Symbiote Invasion Goes Live, Adds Miles Morales & Variants for Spider-Woman & Carnage

1 year 5 months ago

It’s a brand new month, which means it’s time for a new season in Marvel Snap. Previously, we had Sword and Shield, which added Nick Fury into the mix. Fury ended up being a little underwhelming, and this month’s new card doesn’t look like it’ll be meta-defining either. That said, the new card in question is Miles Morales himself, which is exciting.

You can check out the new developer update video down below:

Miles Morales is a 4-cost, 5-power card with the following ability: If a card moved last turn, this costs 1. This makes him a really good value card to use against move decks, or in your own move decks where you’re constantly shuffling cards around. Being about to drop a 5-power card for just one energy can result in a huge power swing if you play it right.

This season’s ranked rewards also includes a new card back you can get at Infinite, as well as a variant at 70. The Season Pass also comes with plenty of goodies including Credits, Gold, new avatars, variants for Spider-Woman and Carnage, and a cardback.

The WD SN550 is going cheap at Ebuyer's Ebay UK page right now, with a 2TB drive costing just £118.98. I played Gloomwood on accidental hard mode because I didn't know I had an inventory

1 year 5 months ago

A couple of weeks back you may remember that I played the early access build of Gloomwood, a very good Thief-like that currently snaps shut just as you reach the best bit. The Richard Gere holding a necklace of video games. One thing that I do not dwell on in my feature, though, is that I was hamstrung not just by the early access limitations of the game. For almost all of the first playthrough I did, I thought that you could neither heal nor store items in Gloomwood. I was like "Wow, this is a really hardcore stealth sim."

You can, of course, do both of those things in Gloomwood. It's just, I am an idiot.

Flintlock: The Siege Of Dawn is an exciting action-RPG mix of Elden Ring and God Of War

Finally, another game befitting A44, the studio behind minimalistic Ashen which Brendy quite enjoyed.

Tinykin Review

1 year 5 months ago

My desire for a new Pikmin game is borderline rabid, so I got very excited when I saw that Tinykin’s army of adorable followers might potentially fill the sprout-shaped void in my heart. But while its simple environmental puzzles may not have entirely sated that craving, its joyous world and extremely satisfying platforming unexpectedly fed a different hunger. Tinykin feels more like a modern evolution of the N64-era 3D platformer formula than most other attempts I’ve played, and its laidback exploration and collectible hunting was an absolute delight from start to finish.

You control a space explorer named Milodane as you wander your way through a fairly regular two-story home – of course, doing so is made decidedly irregular by the fact that you’re the size of a bug. Along the way you’ll meet the literal bug citizens of this enormous house who have repurposed its rooms into a thriving and elaborate kingdom, complete with an amusement park, nightclub, and slightly worrying church. Each of the six rooms is a distinct level to complete, and the designs of both the environments and the charming bugs that occupy them are a consistent high point of Tinykin.

Mortal Kombat Nitro Developer Remembers the Faster, Bloodier SNES Version That Never Was

1 year 5 months ago

From its debut in 1992 through April 1995, the Mortal Kombat franchise generated over $1 billion in revenue between coin-op machines and cartridges for home systems. That figure accounts for the first two games; their sequels earned billions more. At a moment’s notice, hardcore fans and collectors can scour Amazon, eBay, and Craigslist for any of those versions and browse page after page of listings, giving them plenty of time to find the best deal on MK games and merchandise.

Mortal Kombat Nitro will never appear in those listings. Only two copies exist, and their owners have no plans to part with them.

Over the winter and spring of 1993, Sculptured Software and Acclaim struggled to meet Nintendo’s stringent demands for a sanitized version of Mortal Kombat on Super NES. By release, blood had been changed to sweat, and tamer finishing moves had replaced their grisly arcade counterparts. Early on, however, the Super NES port looked markedly different.

“There were versions from Sculptured that had blood,” says Rob Holmes.

Jeff Peters was the project manager at Sculptured Software charged with leading a small team in converting the arcade game to the 16-bit console. While he understood Nintendo looking out for its family-friendly reputation, he thought MK’s violence wasn’t worth all the fuss.

“The blood and guts were so over the top that they were cartoonish,” says Peters.

Crystal Dynamics Is Asking Fans If They'd Like a New Legacy of Kain Game

1 year 5 months ago

Crystal Dynamics has released a survey asking fans if they'd like to see a return to the Legacy of Kain franchise.

As reported by Eurogamer, the survey poses several questions that show the Tomb Raider and Deus Ex developer is at least thinking about a potential return for the beloved, long dormant series. The survey asks users what consoles they play on, if they've heard of or have played a Legacy of Kain game before, or if they've watched someone play the games on YouTube or Twitch.

Speaking quite explicitly, it also asks how fans would feel if a new Legacy of Kain was announced, and if they'd prefer to see a remake, remaster, reboot, or sequel, and what specific features they'd like a new game to include.

Testing the waters further, the survey also asks fans how they feel about games featuring vampires in general, a concept that's seen recent viral successes with the likes of V Rising and Vampire Survivors.

PS5 Has Seemingly Been Jailbroken, and People are Already Installing PT on It

1 year 5 months ago

Sony’s PlayStation 5 seems to have been jailbroken – so of course, people are installing P.T.

PlayStation modder SpecterDev unveiled the new jailbreak earlier today – an experimental IPV6 kernel exploit for the PS5. This jailbreak relies on a WebKit vulnerability as an entry point, so it will only work on PS5’s running firmware 4.03 or lower… and even then, apparently only works around 30% of the time.

In simple terms, jailbreaking refers to reverse-engineering closed hardware, and is often used to unlock debug menus and allow the use of unauthorized software. Fellow modder Lance MacDonald showcased this new jailbreak in action by installing famous lost game P.T on his P55.

As you can see in the video above, the jailbreak gives users access to the debug menu as well as the ability to install a PS4 PKG file – essentially a backup of a game. It seems McDonald couldn’t help installing the now-defunct Silent Hill demo, P.T. which has been in high demand ever since it was removed from the PS Store back in May 2015.

PSVR 2: Sony Is Reportedly Making 2 Million Units for Launch

1 year 5 months ago

Sony appears to be expecting a successful PlayStation VR2 launch, as it's reportedly making two million units of the headset ahead of its early 2023 release date.

According to Bloomberg, sources familiar with Sony's operations said the company is hoping to produce the two million units between September 2022 and March next year.

It's worth noting that, while the ending of production in March suggests a release date of around the same time, it could also refer to the end of a launch window for the PlayStation VR2. Sony's official release window for the headset is still the somewhat vague "early 2023".

Unlike most other bits of gaming hardware, Bloomberg's sources said the PSVR 2 hasn't faced supply chain issues that have slowed production. In fact, Sony is reportedly in a position to adjust its production numbers depending on how the device sells at launch.

Vampire Survivors Gets Full Release With Major Update Later This Month

1 year 5 months ago

Vampire Survivors is leaving Early Access, with a major update on October 20 that marks the game's official launch.

Announced on its Steam page, version 1.0 will include a handful of new achievements, balance changes, new language support, and a wealth of surprises that developer Poncle said will "offer a little something for everyone".

It's unclear exactly what these surprises are, but hints will be shared over the two weeks before Vampire Survivors' official launch, with Poncle teasing something new each day starting October 7.

As for balance, only one weapon will receive a slight nerf: the Santa Water and its evolution La Borra. According to Poncle, "they tend to surpass almost everything else by an order of magnitude with little to no effort."

Increasing accessibility, Vampire Survivors 1.0 is adding more language support, featuring English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese, Turkish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Korean, and Japanese as official options.

One thing that won't be included with the game's official launch is its port over to an industry-standard engine. Development on this is still ongoing but Poncle hopes to release it by the end of 2022.

"The goal of the new engine is to have the exact same game, with increased performance and compatibility for more machines, and like most new things in Vampire Survivors it will remain optional," Poncle said.
