From today you can sign up to Eurogamer's Supporter program and get your first month for £1, opening up ad-free browsing and access to the weekly Essentials newsletter that recently almost had Edge deputy editor and friend of the site Chris Schilling have an accident. You can't say fairer than that, surely.

It's been a year since we launched the Supporter program, and it's seen the return of regular weekly podcasts, the Off-Topic series and Bertie's wonderful One-to-One series where he's profiled in-depth legends such as Ken and Roberta Williams and Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson.

Destiny 2 and Hitman developers respond to Google Stadia shutdown

Last week, Google announced it will shut down its cloud gaming service Stadia in January. While Google confirmed it will refund all Stadia hardware purchases made through the Google Store, as well as all game and add-on content purchases made through the Stadia store, users have been left concerned about their in-game data.

Thankfully, developers are trying to ensure these players are not going to see their efforts wasted when Stadia ultimately closes its doors.

Sharing an update on Twitter, Hitman developer IO Interactive announced it was currently "looking into ways" for its Google Stadia fans to "continue [their] Hitman experience on other platforms".

Why Did Daemon Laugh During Laena’s Funeral in House of the Dragon? Answered

1 year 5 months ago

With the first season of Game of Thrones’ popular off-shoot prequel series now almost concluded, there have been a myriad of twists and turns to help keep viewers on the edge of their seats. That said, if you’ve arrived here, there’s a good chance you’re curious as to why Daemon laughed during Laena’s funeral in House of the Dragon. Worry not, as we’re going to answer that specific query down below.

Before we jump into it, we just want to give you all a quick spoiler warning in case you haven’t had a chance to catch up with episode 7 yet. Still around? Okay, let’s get into it!

Why Daemon Laughed During Laena’s Funeral

During the opening of episode 7, we bear witness to Laena’s funeral following her brutal death in the preceding chapter where she was burned alive by her dragon, Vhagar. While everyone who is in attendance are rightfully pensive and respectful, Daemon lets out a loud chuckle that obviously doesn’t go down too well with the rest of the attendees.

Frankly, his behaviour – as has been the case for much of the entire first season – is often chaotic and borderline anarchic. As to why he laughs, well… that’s largely a mystery, but we can try and infer why he did.

The priest says the words: “Salt courses through Valerian blood. Ours runs thick. Ours runs true. And ours must never thin.” It’s telling that Daemon laughs during this speech, which alludes to the notion that the Valerian bloodline is pure and true.

Of course, while Daemon and Laena were both partners and married to each other, it’s fair to say that their bond together was largely built upon political gain rather than true love. As a result, Daemon may be laughing at the idea that their love was purportedly “true”, which it sadly was not.

Minecraft Live 2022 Is Bringing Back the Popular Mob Vote

1 year 5 months ago

Among the attractions coming at Minecraft Live 2022, players will be able to vote for the new critter that will join the game’s growing ecosystem.

The announcement video below hints that three new mobs (short for “mobile objects,” a technical term indicating AI-driven enemies and NPCs in games) will be presented and will vie for the players’ popular vote, but only one will get to be included in the game.

This is likely unsurprising since this is a rather traditional feature of the show at Minecraft Live, but it’s nice to get an official confirmation.

It’s worth mentioning that the specific mobs participating to the vote have not been announced, but the video possibly provides hints.

The 2021 vote was won by the cute Allay, which triumphed over the Bronze Golem and the Gare.

in 2020 the Glow Squid won, leaving behind the Mobloom and Iceologer.

Below you can watch the announcement video.

Minecraft Live will air on October 15 at noon EDT, 9:00 am PDT, 5:00 pm BST, or 6:00 pm CEST depending on where you live.

Multiple Disco Elysium Developers Forced Out Of ZA/UM; Cultural Association Also Dissolved

1 year 5 months ago

This weekend, Martin Luiga, one of the founding members and secretary of the ZA/UM cultural association, took to medium.com to announce that he was dissolving the ZA/UM cultural association. For those unfamiliar, this is the team that was responsible for the critically acclaimed Disco Elysium. Luiga went on to announce that other leads, such as Robert Kurvitz, Aleksander Rostov, and Helen Hindpere, were forced out of the company.

Luiga went on to clarify that the termination of the cultural organization was that it no longer represented the ethos and ideology it was founded on.

“People and ideas are meant to be eternal; organizations may well be temporary. I find that the organization was successful overall, and most of the mistakes that were made were contingent, determined by the sociocultural conditions we were thrown into.” – Martin Luiga

How Did Laenor Fake His Own Death in House of the Dragon? Answered

1 year 5 months ago

As Game of Thrones’ latest spin-off series continues to double down on the Targaryen-Hightower-Velaryon inter-relational conflict and drama, episode 7 introduces quite a few meaningful story beats that will likely ripple out and impact the world of Westeros going forward. If you’re here, however, you’re probably wondering how did Laenor fake his own death in House of the Dragon.

Before we dive into it, just a quick spoiler warning for those who haven’t yet caught up with episode 7. Still here? Well, then, let’s get started!

How Laenor Faked His Death in House of the Dragon

When Princess Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen get together near the end of episode 7, Rhaenyra proposes a plan to marry each other in a bid to strengthen her house and her claim to the throne. However, a surprisingly reluctant Daemon admits that the plan has a fly in the ointment. Specifically, he says to Rhaenyra, “We could not marry unless Laenor is dead.” As a result of this, Daemon and Rhaenyra cook up a sophisticated plot to fake Laenor’s death.

Firstly, Daemon approaches Laenor’s partner, Ser Qarl, in private and describes to him of a land across the Narrow Sea where ostensibly the pair of lovers could elope to and settle down together without becoming embroiled in the politics and conflicts of the throne. All the duo would need is gold and each other, and they could be happy there together.

In order to achieve this, however, Daemon asks Ser Qarl for a “quick death” for Laenor and “one with witnesses.” Of course, Daemon, Rhaenyra, and Ser Qarl do not actually intend to murder Laenor as he is not only an honourable man, but one with a good heart, as Rhaenyra aptly puts earlier on in episode 7.

Report: Key Disco Elysium Developers Have Left the Studio

Disco Elysium

Creators who played important roles in the creation of hit RPG Disco Elysium may have left developer Studio ZA/UM. [Thanks, Nibel!]

Martin Luiga, an editor on Disco Elysium and founding member of the studio, posted on Medium that the "ZA/UM Cultural Association " was "dissolved," and that Disco Elysium writer/designer Robert Kurvitz, lead art and design developer Aleksandr Rostov, and writer Helen Hindpere all left the company "involuntarily" at the end of 2021. Rostov confirmed their departure via Twitter.

The ZA/UM Cultural Association is (or was) an artists' collective that went on to form Studio ZA/UM and develop Disco Elysium as a game. The Cultural Association and Studio ZA/UM had pretty much the same personnel until its apparent dissolution.

What Fall 2022 Anime Are You Most Interested In?

Fall 2022 anime

Siliconera Speaks Up, our regular staff and community commentary feature, is back! And right on time for the beginning of the Fall 2022 anime season! This week we're picking our favorite (and most anticipated) anime debuts of the quarter. Share yours in the comments, and on Twitter!

The Fall 2022 anime season is fully stacked! From the next episodes of Spy x Family, My Hero Academia, Mob Psycho 100, and Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These to the debuts of Chainsaw Man, Gundam: The Witch from Mercury, and the rebooted adaptation of Urusei Yatsura, there's no shortage of big names to count on.

As a certified Old Person who doesn't have nearly as much time to watch shows week-to-week as I used to, I'm still looking forward to nearly everything I've cited so far, plus a few more niche titles like The Eminence in Shadow and Reincarnated as a Sword.

Above and beyond those for me, though, is the return of Bleach. I watched that show almost religiously through college and past it, and even began my online writing career (such as it is) writing recaps of the show and its manga for Japanator! You could say a good portion of my adult life was linked to some level of engagement with Bleach, so it was quite exciting to learn its final story arc would get adapted. I'm not going to pretend that the story ended particularly well, but it still deserved to be seen through, and Bleach fans are now getting their wish!

BLUE LOCK Offers a Grim View of Sports Anime You’ve Never Seen Before (Episode 1 Preview)

1 year 5 months ago

If one were to base their opinion of the new Football anime BLUELOCK on the Sports anime genre’s norms, they wouldn’t be blamed for expecting another show about hot guys trying their best sports. Such has been the tried and true formula of sports anime for decades now, and shows rarely, if ever, break away from this method. And why would they; people like the positivity inherent in stories of coming together and overcoming an obstacle as a team.

And yet, within its first episode alone, BLUELOCK showed me that there’s something sinister lurking under the surface of the usual sports anime tropes of hot guys and wanting to be the best. This show has so much honest-to-goodness edge that one could cut themselves on it, and that might just be the series’ biggest strength.

Take the premise it offers, for example: Following a loss that keeps his high school team from advancing to Nationals, Isagi Yoichi is given an offer to come to a special training program hosted by the Japan Football Union. Once there, he doesn’t find officials positing the merits of teamwork and unity. Instead, a specialist says that he’s deadset on creating an egoist that can lead the Japanese National Football Team to victory, morals, and modesty be damned.

To that end, he’s gathered 300 of the best teenage Football players from throughout the country. They’ll all be subjected to survival game-style competitions until only one is left standing. The winner will go on to lead the National Team as the country’s best Striker, while all the losers will never be able to participate on the National Team for the rest of their lives.

PS5 Remaster of Horizon: Zero Dawn Reportedly in the Works

1 year 5 months ago

Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster

Sony isn't quite done with giving some of its recent releases a spruce-up for the PlayStation 5 era. Rumors reported in MP1st and corroborated by VGC and Gematsu suggest that Guerrilla Games is working on a remaster or remake of 2017's Horizon: Zero Dawn. Originally a PS4 exclusive, the game launched on PC in August 2020.

Targeted for the PS5, the Horizon: Zero Dawn remaster (or remake) would upgrade the graphics yet further, to match Horizon: Forbidden West, which released in February 2022 for PS4 and PS5. Additionally, accessibility options and other improvements put in place for the sequel, as well as graphical and performance settings, would be part of the project.

A second rumor in MP1st's report also claims that Guerrilla Games is working on a multiplayer game based on Horizon, with customization or gameplay based on the various tribes of Horizon's world. Gematsu, meanwhile, verified that the Horizon: Zero Dawn remaster and multiplayer projects are on a leaked list purporting to reveal various Sony Interactive Entertainment projects.

Why is House of The Dragon Episode 7 So Dark? Answered

1 year 5 months ago

If you’ve been keeping up with House of the Dragon for the last few weeks, you might’ve noticed that the series can be a dark show in the most literal way possible. During the episode Driftmark, there were parts that were literally hard to watch, as many people couldn’t even see what was going on and went to Twitter to vent their frustrations. So, why exactly is House of the Dragon Episode 7 so visually dark? Here is everything you need to know.

House of The Dragon Darkness Issues? Explained

According to the HBOMaxHelp Twitter account, the darkness issues seems to have been a post-production problem. Some of the “nighttime” sequences in House of the Dragon were filmed during daytime hours, and, once finished, post-production would take over and dim the lighting to create the illusion of Darkness.

However, for this case, the dark visuals were an intentional choice by House of the Dragon’s creative team, as HBO’s Help Twitter account explained to a user.

How To Transfer Your Overwatch Skins to Overwatch 2

1 year 5 months ago

It’s the end of an era for Blizzard’s popular hero shooter as the franchise moves to its anticipated sequel. For those who have been playing the game for years and invested in its ecosystem with premium cosmetics, though, there’s no need to worry about losing them during this big transition. Here’s how to transfer your Overwatch skins to Overwatch 2 if you’re unsure about the process.

Transferring Overwatch Skins to Overwatch 2

This process is automatic after having linked your console account to a Battle.net account (PC players will obviously already have a Battle.net account by default), which you should have already done by now given that Overwatch has now shut down. As stated in Blizzard’s blog article about the process:

“All items in the Hero Gallery across platforms will be present in the merged battle.net account. This includes all sprays, emotes, skins, and everything else in the current Hero Gallery tab in-game. Duplicate cosmetics across platforms will be merged into a single battle.net account.”

As soon as you link your Battle.net account they will appear in-game. Once completed, you do not need to worry about manually transferring skins from one account to the next between the two games.

Over the past few weeks, you should have received an in-game Overwatch message explaining that an account merge needed to occur. If you have not received this for whatever reason, you can still perform the merge manually. Simply follow these steps:

With just a few months to go until the release of EA Motive's intriguing Dead Space remake, the developer has confirmed it'll be giving the spruced-up sci-fi horror its first proper gameplay reveal tomorrow, 4th October.

Announced last July, the Dead Space remake is a ground-up reworking of Visceral Games' much-loved 2008 original, once again putting players in the role of engineer Isaac Clarke as they journey through the Necromorph-infested mining ship USG Ishimura. This time, though, EA Motive is attempting to bolster the fear factor on modern systems with enhanced audio and visuals, alongside other tweaks including improved story, characters, and game mechanics.

Since confirming a Dead Space remake was in the works last year, EA Motive has been unusually open about its development process, detailing the project's progress in a series of livestreams focusing on gameplay changes, audio, and art.

Dorfromantik Review – Falling Into Place

1 year 5 months ago

Reviewed on: Switch
Platform: Switch, PC

Developer: Toukana Interactive
Release: (PC), (Switch)

Once you get past its bizarre name, Dorfromantik offers simple, relaxing sessions of tile-matching puzzle goodness. Connecting hexagons to build pretty landscapes offers the thoughtful strategy of a city-builder to provide a stimulating yet overwhelmingly Zen atmosphere.

Fans of the board game Carcassonne should quickly grasp Dorfromantik's concept of drawing random tiles and finding high-scoring – and aesthetically pleasing – ways to place them on the field based on their scenery. Tiles only fit next to those with corresponding edges; railroad tiles connect with railroads, rivers merge with other bodies of water, and so on. Creating expansive forests or sprawling villages reward more points, and I enjoy the challenge of finding optimal ways to make pieces fit. Completing sections of the map and watching boats sail across my pretzel-like waterways is a small but satisfying touch because of how it brings my model cities to life.

Monster Hunter Felynes in Hyogo Police safety campaign

The Felynes from Capcom's Monster Hunter series will appear in a new set of merchandise promoting public safety in one of Japan's prefectures. Capcom has published a new press release announcing a collaboration campaign with the Hyogo Prefectural Police to promote crime prevention and public safety with characters from the former's game franchise.

The collaboration items will include coloring sheets, reflective keyholders, and towels. While all of them primarily feature Felynes, the pig-like Poogies will also appear on some of the merchandise. The items will include messages about protecting children from crimes. Capcom and the Hyogo Police will distribute the items at an event in Marine Pia Kobe on October 8, 2022.

[gallery ids="936696,936695,936697" link="file"]

Felyne is a cat-like creature in the Monster Hunter universe. In Japan, it is better known as Airou. When it accompanies a hunter in the game series, it becomes known as a Palico. Felynes have appeared since the inaugural Monster Hunter entry on the PS2 in 2004, but the companion Palicoes started showing up in the 2008 PSP entry, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. The series' most recent iteration as of this writing, Monster Hunter Rise, had a notable addition of the dog-like Canyne that can also become an alternative companion as a Palamute.
