Omori Switch and PS4 Physical Copy Pre-orders Open

When Omori comes to the Nintendo Switch and PS4, a person buying it will be able to decide between a digital or physical copy. Both Omocat and Fangamer opened up pre-orders for retail copies. It will be $34.99.

Alongside the reveal offers another potential hint at a release date. When the first console version of Omori was confirmed for the Switch back in December 2021, it was given a Spring 2022 release window. The product listings for these physical copies say the retail copies will ship in June 2022. The official Omocat one doesn’t offer any exact dates. However, Fangamer’s listing said that it will ship by June 17, 2022.

There’s also a trailer that appeared alongside the Omori physical copy announcement that shows off some of its characters. The end of the video offers a look at the game's box art.

Steam Deck production ramping up into "the hundreds of thousands" by next month

It's been a long wait, but Steam Deck is now out in the wild. For those that didn't make the head of the queue when reservations opened last July, however - and who are currently eyeing up a rather non-specific ETA for their unit - Valve has a bit of promising news, saying production of its new portable gaming PC will be "in the hundreds of thousands" by next month.

That's according to Valve designer Lawrence Yang who, in conversation with IGN, explained the company expects production to "ramp very quickly" as it continues "surmounting" the initial supply chain issues that led to Steam Deck's delay last year. "Very quickly we'll be in the tens of thousands [of units produced]," Yang revealed. "By the second month we'll be in the hundreds of thousands, and beyond that it'll grow even quicker".

ghostwire tokyo prelude

Ahead of the March 25, 2022 release date of Ghostwire: Tokyo, Tango Gameworks and Bethesda released a free visual novel prologue to the game. Ghostwire: Tokyo - Prelude: The Corrupted Casefile will come to the PS4, PS5 and PC. However, it won’t be available on Windows PCs until March 8, 2022.

https://twitter.com/playghostwire/status/1498727806787854342

As a visual novel, you will choose dialogue options in order to better know the characters on your team and alter the story. The actual Ghostwire: Tokyo game follows Akito in an empty Tokyo after its citizens mysteriously vanish. In its place, spirits called Visitors appeared and Akito needs to defeat them with his psychic abilities. Prelude will show the events that happen prior to the start of the main game. It is unclear how much insight playing Prelude will offer into the full story.

While Ghostwire: Tokyo - Prelude does not seem to feature any dogs, according to its short trailer on Twitter, the final product will allow you to pet and follow dogs. As well, Ghostwire: Tokyo will be a first-person action game, rather than a visual novel.

Ghostwire: Tokyo - Prelude is readily available on the PS4 and PS5 and will appear on Windows PCs on March 8, 2022. Ghostwire: Tokyo will come out on the PS5 and Windows PC on March 25, 2022. Those who have the Deluxe Edition can start playing on March 22, 2022.

Intellivision cuts latest Amico fundraising campaign short, setting alarm bells ringing

Intellivision has cut its latest fundraising campaign for the still-unreleased Amico console short, setting yet more alarm bells ringing over the troubled machine's future.

The Amico, designed as a low-spec console with a family focus, was announced in 2018 and initially expected to arrive in October 2020. However, the machine has since been thrice-delayed, with still no sign of a launch in sight. Worse still, a recent SEC filing highlighted "significant debt" for Intellivision and suggested that, having made no revenue since its inception, the company may not be able to operate beyond July 2022 without additional funds - despite 6,000 pre-orders for Amico still being unfulfilled.

RimWorld refused classification in Australia, banning it from sale

RimWorld, developer Ludeon Studios' widely acclaimed sci-fi colony sim, has been refused classification in Australia, preventing its release and effectively banning it from sale.

It's a decision that, on the one hand, isn't particularly surprising given the Australian Classification Board notorious sensitivity around certain issues in games - RimWorld is, after all, a simulation whose incredibly deep systems make drug-fuelled cannibalism an entirely legitimate pastime for colonists - but it's also a little peculiar, insofar as RimWorld has been available to purchase on PC in Australia for nearly five years.

The Elden Ring tech report: PS5 and Xbox Series consoles tested

In a sense, the core takeaways have not changed since we first looked at the Elden Ring network test last year. First of all, the quality of the game is beyond doubt - From Software deftly blending its unique Souls formula with an open-world to surprising success. Every inch of its map is ripe for exploration, rewarding players for going off the beaten path - for making discoveries at their own pace. However, in terms of technology, while there are changes to how the game presents on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles, the basic headlines remain in place. Whichever way you play, it's a challenge to get a stable 60fps level of performance on even new consoles, despite a choice of two rendering modes.

In summary, both quality and performance options run with a fully unlocked frame-rate. Kicking off with the quality mode, PS5 and Series X run at a fixed 4K - 3840x2160 - while Series S renders at 2560x1440. There's no dynamic resolution scaling in quality mode, meaning that performance adjusts constantly in order to keep resolutions rigidly fixed at these targets. DRS is possible though: it's integrated into the alternative frame-rate mode for every current-gen console.

Xbox CEO Phil Spencer's Reveals His Message For Gamers After Winning Lifetime Achievement Award

Xbox CEO Phil Spencer received a Lifetime Achievement Award at DICE 2022 last week, putting an exclamation mark on a nearly 35-year career that has seen him rise from intern to one of the most powerful leaders in the games industry.

Speaking with IGN after his acceptance speech, Spencer directly addressed the gaming community, urging them to respect creators above all else.

"[K]eep playing, keep using your voice, understand the power of creativity, the power of community," Spencer said. "And the other thing I would just say is, let's respect creators. I think it's very often that creations can be kind of weaponized and used in battles between platforms and other things. I look at everybody who is brave enough to create something, put it out...have their peers, the industry, players, play and analyze and talk about what they do, and let's just celebrate the fact that so many great games are coming out from so many creators, and realize that's such a foundation for where this industry is going to go."

Spencer's comments followed a speech in which he called out toxicity in gaming, saying that the games industry has a "responsibility to billions of players."

"We have a responsibility to everyone in this business. We have a responsibility to society. And we have a responsibility to ourselves," Spencer said. "Our responsibility is simple: do everything possible to ensure that this entire industry is about treating every single person with dignity and respect."

Lost Game Award For Celeste Discovered On eBay By Youtuber

The Game Awards is a big celebration for video games that are put on at the end of every single year. Thousands of viewers watch it every year and so video game developers love to have their own games showcased on it. What's even better is if your own game wins an award. Celeste was among the games that won big in 2018, but apparently never received an actual trophy... at least until it was recovered by a Youtuber who happened to be visiting eBay.

PrestigeIsKey, or Ryan B., is a Youtuber and streamer. He always wanted a replica of the Game Award trophy, so he scoured eBay for the past five years to see if there were any. He ended up coming across a listing for $500 that contained one. After putting in an offer for $375, the seller accepted it and shipped it to Ryan. The seller didn't even deal in video games and its other listings included car parts, mufflers, and engine components. Even on the listing, the seller admitted it had no idea what the trophy's origins were.

When Ryan received the package, the trophy wasn't a replica. It turned out to be the actual trophy that Extremely Ok Games won at the 2018 Game Award for Best Independent Game with Celeste. He then reached out to Heidy Motta, Operations Manager at Extremely Ok Games, and confirmed with her that Celeste's developers never received the trophy.

Horizon Forbidden West: 26 Amazing Little Details

Horizon Forbidden West is a deeply involving experience, full of imposing machines, warring tribes, and a ton of lore to uncover. It is also an astounding technical achievement, with an attention to detail across its gameplay, character, and visuals that had us shaking our heads in awe.

There were a lot to choose from, but here are our 26 favorite amazing little details in Horizon Forbidden West. (Some spoilers ahead if you have not played into the later portions of Horizon Forbidden West!)

1. Guerilla has spent a lot of time perfecting Aloy’s animations, even in less dynamic moments. When standing near a ledge, for example, Aloy will sway and try to keep her balance.

2. Her arms will visibly shake when you have a bow drawn.

3. In more dynamic moments, Guerrilla’s knack for bespoke animations continues to impress - the rappel down move is back and cool as ever, but the way Aloy activates the Shieldwing, or throws out the Pullcaster to lock onto a point are just as stylish.

4. Machines are subtly different from one another. If you look closely, they have the logo of their cauldron (where they were manufactured) printed on them.

5. They’re also realistically battle-worn. If you zoom in on their exteriors you’ll see rust spots and scratches, especially on their undersides.

Elden Ring Player Defeats Boss Using Ring Fit Controller... On the First Try

FromSoftware fans are on a different level, known for beating games like Dark Souls with banana controllers, Donkey Kong bongos, and more. Naturally, players are already experimenting with unique play styles for Elden Ring, with one fan taking down a boss using Nintendo's Ring Fit Adventure controller.

If you're unfamiliar, Ring Fit Adventure is an exercise game on Nintendo Switch that uses a controller called the Ring-Con, which is basically a Pilates ring with a Joy-Con attached to it. It also makes use of a leg strap with the other Joy-Con fitted inside. In Ring Fit Adventure, players use the Ring-Con and leg strap to perform different forms of exercise.

Now, SuperLouis64 — the very same streamer who beat Dark Souls with bananas — has defeated a boss in Elden Ring using a Ring Fit controller mod. As you can see in the video below, Super Louis 64 defeated Bloodhound Knight Darriwil while getting a good workout in. What's more, the streamer did it on his first try.

Ariana DeBose Joins Kraven the Hunter Movie as Calypso

Sony is definitely pushing through on the film side of things, with first Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter, with the latter now being able to count on the star power of Ariana DeBose. As reported by Variety, DeBose will be playing Calypso, the voodoo priestess that has a complicated relationship with Kraven.

Calypso first appeared in the Spider-Man comics back in the early 1980s as a foe, and if things go as expected, we will likely see Kraven and her join hands to get up to dastardly plots. The movie will also star Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular villain, with Russell Crowe also part of the cast.

Disney Plus Is Officially The New Home To Ousted Netflix MCU Shows

If you missed out on watching the Marvel Defenders series like Daredevil and Jessica Jones while they were on Netflix, as of yesterday those shows are no longer available. The good news is Disney is making room on its streaming service for all of the MCU-related TV shows.

Starting on March 16, Disney+ will be the exclusive place to watch every season of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, The Defenders, and even former ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. which was conspicuously missing from the Marvel lineup. Those shows will join the already accessible Agent Carter on Disney+ that weren't natively made for the service, nor strictly tied to the current Marvel Cinematic Universe storylines. However, the Netflix roster, which has always been part of the MCU canon, has only recently started to be more directly referenced in the newer movies/Disney+ shows so bringing them home makes more sense than ever.

Hulu’s Futurama Now Complete as John DiMaggio Returns as Bender

It was not too long ago that it was revealed that a Futurama revival was in the works. Most of the cast was set to be back, with one notable exception in John DiMaggio, who plays Bender among other characters in Futurama. Fans anxious over a potential recasting can now rest easy, as the actor is now officially back as the wisecracking robot.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, DiMaggio will be joining the rest of the cast for new episodes that will be premiering on Hulu. It would seem that the issues about wages have now been resolved, with the actor reuniting with fellow regulars Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman.

“I’M BACK, BABY! So damn grateful for the love and support of fans and colleagues alike during this whole time (especially my wife, Kate), and I cannot wait to get back to work with my Futurama family,” DiMaggio said in a statement.

Horizon Forbidden West Patch 1.06 Fixes Main Quest Issues, Photo Mode Blur & More

Guerrilla Games has just released the Horizon Forbidden West Patch 1.06 notes, which fix a bunch of crashes, main quest issues, photo mode blur, and even tones down the frequency Aloy mentions her stash.

The patch notes are pretty extensive, detailing fixes for a number of main quests such as ‘Reach for the Stars,’ ‘The Broken Sky,’ and ‘Seeds of the Past,’ where bugs could occur that would block further progression. Other main quests saw minor visual glitches fixed, such as Aloy being snowed on while inside a cauldron in ‘The Dying Lands.’

Stability and bug fixes have also been rolled out for a whole bunch of side quests and world activities, including an infinite black screen error when stashing the Champion’s Spear and then starting a Tutorial or Challenge in Chainscrape Melee Pit.

For Phot Mode aficionados, Horizon Forbidden West’s patch 1.06 also fixes an issue in the mode where parts of Aloy’s outfit and body would become blurry in specific poses. Instances of the camera jittering and behaving erratically in normal gameplay have also been fixed. The PS4 version also gets a fix for NPCs in settlements not loading in with the correct level of detail, often appearing as very blurry and untextured.

But much to the delight of fans in the comments on Reddit, Horizon Forbidden West’s patch 1.06 also reduces the frequency that Aloy will mention her stash when picking up items she couldn’t fit into her on-person inventory. By no means the most significant fix in terms of the technical performance of the game, it was a little much.

Gran Turismo 7's DualSense feedback is a game changer

Driving a car effectively is a two way thing. It's as much about your input - your stomping on the brake pedal, or your tugging wildly at the wheel - as it is the output of the car and all that it's telling you at any given point. It's what amounts to that near-indefinable 'seat of the pants' feeling that's integral to driving well - the way every bump of the road finds its way to your derriere, or how amidst all those vibrations you can tune into the individual knocks and scrapes. If you've ever been unfortunate enough to have experienced a major mechanical failure, you'll likely be familiar with how your car served up subtle warning signs well before things went truly south.

When translating all that into a racing game, there's only ever really one point of contact as opposed to the all-encompassing feel of being in a car, where those vibrations and sensations are translated through all that plastic and metal you're sitting in. With a racing game, it tends to just be the piece of plastic that's in your hand that does all the talking, which is what makes it such an important piece of any set-up.

Gran Turismo 7 review - Sony's flagship series returns to its glory days

There once was a time when Gran Turismo was everything. If you visited a video game store at the turn of the century you'll surely remember stopping to admire the sight of a Nissan GTR splashing its way through a rain-slicked Special Stage 5 demo run, its headlights glistening across the puddles in the ultimate PlayStation 2 powerhouse. For a short while, Gran Turismo was the undisputed king of driving games.

Since its early noughties heyday Sony's flagship driving series has been many other things, but it's never really enjoyed quite the same status. Gran Turismo 5 was an awkward, unwieldy and never fully convincing shuffle into the HD era; with Gran Turismo 6 we got a flabby, unfocussed thing that ushered players all the way from the Goodwood hillclimb to the surface of the moon. Its breadth was thrilling, although the countless rough edges to be found in between were often frustrating.

Intel Core i7 12700K and Core i5 12400F review: value champs

Last November we took a look at Intel's first 12th generation desktop processors, and today we're back to finish the job. In that initial piece, we reviewed the Core i9 12900K and Core i5 12600K and came away impressed. As it turns out, a modern 10nm process, a larger L3 cache and a new hybrid architecture with 'Performance' and 'Efficient' cores adds up to a very capable CPU lineup. However, both the $589 12900K and $289 12600K have cheaper equivalents with fewer E-cores that ought to provide very similar gaming performance - so this time we're taking a look at those chips, the $409 Core i7 12700K and the $167 Core i5 12400F.

Looking at the specs for each CPU in the table below, you can see that the logic behind the 12900K/12700K and the 12600K/12400F pairings. In each case, we have the same number of hyper-threaded Performance cores - eight for the high-end (i9/i7) parts and six for the mid-range (i5) offerings - with four fewer Efficient cores in the lower-end example. That means moving from eight E-cores in the 12900K to four in the 12700K, while the 12600K's four E-cores turn into zero E-cores on the 12400F.

Elden Ring Patch 1.02.2 Fixes Fire Giant Crash, Other Bugs

Elden Ring Patch 1.02.2 fixes Fire Giant bug and graphics card bug on PC and save progression on PS5

FromSoftware released Elden Ring patch 1.02.2, which fixes various graphical issues and game crashes on PC and improves saving on PlayStation 5. One such Elden Ring bug would cause players' games to crash upon meeting certain conditions during the Fire Giant boss fight. Other bug fixes include one where the PC version of the game would not use the computer's graphics card. The patch is immediately available for PC and PS5.

The Elden Ring version 1.02.2 patch notes are as follows:

PC:

  • Fixed an issue where the graphics card was not being used, resulting in slow performance.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the game to quit under certain conditions during a battle with the Fire Giant.
  • Fixed other bugs.

PS5:

  • Changes to save game progression even when the game is not terminated.

It's unclear whether the graphics card issue is the cause of recent problems surrounding Elden Ring's frame rate drops on PC. The previous 1.02 patch addressed various graphical issues and frame rate drops "under certain conditions." However, some players still report poor graphical performance despite having computer specs above the recommended level.

Ukraine Calls on Xbox, PlayStation and 'All Game Development Companies' to Block Russia Support

Editor's Note: The war in Ukraine is an ongoing, painful and emotive topic. IGN urges community members to be respectful when engaging in conversation around this subject and does not endorse harassment of any kind.

Ukraine's deputy prime minister, Mykhailo Fedorov has called on "all game development companies and esports platforms" to temporarily stop support for Russia and Belarus, and directed an open letter to Xbox and PlayStation in particular.

On his Twitter account, Fedorov tagged Xbox and PlayStation, writing: "You are definitely aware of what is happening in Ukraine right now. Russia declare war not for Ukraine but for all civilized world. If you support human values, you should live [sic] the Russian market!"

The open letter calls for companies to "temporarily block all Russian and Belarusian accounts, temporarily stop the participation of Russian and Belarusian teams and gamers in all international esports events and cancel all international events holding on the territory of Russia and Belarus." While not explicitly mentioned, Fedorov has likely included Belarus in the request because of its tacit support of Russia's invasion.

Bungie Warns Of Bans For Trying To Play Destiny 2 On Steam Deck

Destiny 2 cannot currently be played on Steam Deck, and those who attempt to get around restrictions may be banned.

In an update to its support page for Destiny 2 to coincide with the Steam Deck's launch, developer Bungie said the game is not supported on Valve's new handheld or any device that uses Proton, Valve's Linux solution for playing Window-compatible games.

Destiny 2 can be installed but not launched on Proton, and "players who attempt to bypass incompatibility will be met with a game ban," according to the page.

Bungie notes that Destiny 2 could work if "Windows is installed and running", but this is currently not possible on Steam Deck. As we noted in our review in progress of the Steam Deck, Windows can be installed but, due to an unreleased graphics driver for the machine's GPU, it effectively can't run.

We added: "Just about every problem comes down to the fact that by default, Steam Deck runs on Valve’s SteamOS – a custom version of Linux that can run a lot of Windows games using software called Proton.

Gran Turismo 7 Review

From the first honk of the series’ iconic countdown klaxon, there are moments during Gran Turismo 7 when it feels almost like a remake of the 1997 original. In the space of a moment I’m 16 again and stuffing earthshaking turbos into a bright red Mitsubishi GTO, wondering how I’m going to be able to beat my dad around Trial Mountain when he always gets the DualShock and I have to make do with our only other controller – a terrible, translucent blue aftermarket job with no analogue sticks. That’s a kind of magic a video game series can’t buy; it can only earn. Gran Turismo 7 has that magic; that compulsive car upgrade loop the series established, plus the hot looks and sterling handling to back it up. But there’s a lot more to Gran Turismo 7 than the sum of its nostalgia – even if there are still a few traditions it should’ve left in its rear-view mirror.

Gran Turismo 7 tech analysis: how Polyphony uses the power of PS5

At long last, Gran Turismo has truly returned. Leaving behind the interesting but ultimately incomplete GT Sport, Polyphony Digital's latest series entries marks perhaps the most complete Gran Turismo experience since the PlayStation 2 era. Taking centre-stage is a vast single-player component, reminiscent of the old days. Gran Turismo 7 feels both true to its roots but fresh at the same time, also delivering our first taste of what this technology-focused developer can extract from PlayStation 5 hardware. It's early days for the new generation, so we had to wonder: to what extent has Polyphony scaled beyond GT Sport's showing on PlayStation 4 Pro?

Arguably, Gran Turismo as a complete package reached its peak in the PlayStation 2 generation - with the shift to HD on PS3, there's the sense that Polyphony Digital struggled to transition the series to this new era and while the games that followed were well-made, a certain purity and joy had been lost. On a technological basis, there's the argument that the studio pushed too hard, hitting hard limits in the PS3 hardware. Nigh-on flawless performance on PS2 fell short on PS3, while the menu systems were complex, friction-filled and cumbersome.
