Animal Crossing: A New Renaissance

2 years 4 months ago

For many, playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons is indicative of a specific time: March 2020. Lockdown hit, but solace was found in finding connection with cute animal villagers - and each other - on a virtual, idyllic island.

Gradually over the following year, players dropped off due to Animal Crossing fatigue, a lack of content updates, and finally being able to go outside.

Santa Claus Is Coming to Battlefield 2042, and Some Players Aren't Happy About It

2 years 4 months ago

Battlefield 2042's latest update has, possibly inadvertently, revealed some upcoming skins for the game – and many players don't seem pleased that 'Father Winter' is coming to town.

Battlefield 2042's Update #3 adds weekly missions, improvements to menu UI, and over 150 gameplay fixes – but it also seems to include a range of new cosmetics. As shown in the tweet below, some of the Specialist skins included are a little outside of Battlefield's more serious norm, including a Father Winter skin for Boris that sees him sporting a Santa-like cloak and a white beard.

At time of writing the skins have been removed from public view having seemingly been revealed too early, but the response to the Father Winter skin in particular has already been vociferous from many players, who see it as a step too far outside of Battlefield's style.

On Reddit, TheHuscarl wrote, "I have never seen such a strange juxtaposition in tone built into a game. It's really very odd, I would love to have seen the design discussions that went into this."

Final Fantasy XIV 6.0 Full Patch Notes Released as Long Maintenance for Endwalker’s Launch Starts

2 years 4 months ago

Final Fantasy XIV has gone dark for two days in preparation for the early access of the Endwalker expansion and its full patch notes have been released.

You can find them here and they include a ton of information on all the new goodies, content, and improvement we can expect from the expansion.

Of course, this includes more (likely awesome) storytelling, the male version of the Viera race, the Sage and Reaper jobs, and the new areas from Thavnair all the way to the Moon.

Yet, there are also plenty more subtle changes including new deliveries, recipes, gear, housing features and furniture, the “Derplander’s stubble” face option for male midlanders, new hairstyles, new monsters, new mounts, minions, and much more.

The maintenance will end on Dec. 3, 2021, at 1:00 a.m. PST when the gates of Endwalker will finally open for those who have pre-ordered the expansion. Everyone else will have to wait until the official release on release December 7.

In the meanwhile, you can still enjoy the Endwalker benchmark for PC, including the male viera character creation, and you can also read our hands-on preview.

Fortnite Chapter 2's Ending Seems to Have Leaked Because of a TikTok Advert

2 years 4 months ago

A huge leak for Fortnite Chapter 2's ending appears to have surfaced online, coming via a TikTok advert that has been making the rounds on social media.

The end is nigh for Fortnite's current storyline and second chapter. Chapter 2 is set to draw to a close this Saturday (December 4) during an in-game live event called 'The End', which should set up the Battle Royale for its next big adventure. However, footage detailed in an advert on TikTok has seemingly shown off a pretty key element of the finale.

We won't be linking to the footage here but, suffice it to say, if you're waiting to find out what happens, tread carefully on social media.

For those looking to jump into the Chapter 2 finale, the event will begin on December 4 at 1pm Pacific / 4pm Eastern / 9pm UK (that's 8am AEDT on December 5). It will be a one-time-only event so make sure you're in the game at that time to experience The End for yourself.

As announced by Epic, 'The End' will support up to 16 player parties, so you'll be able to jump into the action with a number of friends and its playlist will be available in Fortnite 30 minutes before the start of the event.

Fortnite's second chapter began with its own major in-game event, when the original map was sucked into a black hole in late 2019. This was then replaced by a new map with new terrain and locations at the time.

Halo Infinite: Sniper Gets 23-Player Killing Spree With One Bullet

2 years 4 months ago

Halo Infinite’s full release is just around the corner, and several players have already taken a liking to its free-to-play multiplayer mode. One player, in particular, named “Sakana,” posted a ridiculous clip (seen below) to Twitter, showcasing the stopping power of one of the franchise’s most popular rifles. With one sniper bullet, 23 players are eliminated in mere seconds.

Impressive, right? Sure, Sakana got a bunch of buddies to stand single-file, but the results are still cool as hell. Watching the kill-points increase and the red-hued damage indicator flash per each downed Spartan is pretty satisfying. The only highlight that could top this would be if 23 players somehow lined up inadvertently in the middle of a standard multiplayer match. Let’s see how many people load into big team battles in the hopes of achieving this legendary feat. Trust me, you’re more likely to get a 23-player killing spree by playing the game mode normally.

Battlefield 2042 fans upset at leaked Santa Claus skin

2 years 4 months ago

UPDATE 3/12/21: Battlefield 2042 developer DICE has responded to yesterday's leak of an upcoming Santa Claus skin - which caused a backlash among fans of the military shooter.

In a long Twitter thread, DICE did not mention the Santa skin by name - but did talk generally about the use of "unique cosmetics" it had designed for "special #Battlefield Portal modes to further enhance the fantasy in special events". The suggestion, then, is that you won't be able to run around as Santa in all modes forever.
