Nerf Legends Review

2 years 3 months ago

There was a time in the early 2000s when you could reach into the bottom of a cereal box and occasionally pull out an entertainingly bad, low budget video game. Nerf Legends feels like it was supposed to be in one of those boxes, but was left out because it's not safe to package something this harmful to your health alongside someone’s breakfast. With atrocious gunplay, joyless puzzles, cringey writing, painful bugs, and legitimately broken multiplayer, this half baked disaster has absolutely nothing of interest to offer – even to those just looking for a nostalgic laugh. It’s a sloppy, tragic first-person shooter, and one of the worst games I’ve played in a long time.

Arming you with an array of foam dart firing Nerf Blasters, the six-hour barebones story mode in Nerf Legends sends you on a strange and low stakes quest to defeat five different Nerf masters and secure your place among them. You don’t learn who any of the Nerf masters are and there isn’t some greater reason you’re trying to become a Nerf legend, with none of the childlike silliness a story like this could have so easily embraced. Instead you’re just told you need to do it and then a robot makes corny jokes at you along the way, as if playing through each level wasn’t bad enough on its own.

Call of Duty Warzone Is Making a Big Gameplay Change, and Fans Are Warring Over It

2 years 3 months ago

Activision Blizzard is currently facing serious ongoing allegations of harassment and mistreatment of marginalized workers. To learn more, please visit our timeline as well as our in-depth report on the subject.

As the game moves to a new map, Call of Duty: Warzone is making some big changes to how loadouts will operate – and fans can't agree whether it's better or worse for the game.

Call of Duty: Warzone's new map, Caldera will bring with it a tropical new destination, new points of interest, and new changes to the way that fans will play Warzone. While a full list of announced tweaks to the Battle Royale can be found in our full rundown, one feature that has left fans divided is the way that loadouts will work in Warzone going forward.

There are two significant changes that will affect loadouts in the game. Firstly, players will only be able to use weapons from Call of Duty Vanguard when customizing their weapon picks in Caldera. That means that the more modern weapons (found in both Cold War and Modern Warfare) won't be available in your loadout drops during matches.

Solar Ash Review

2 years 3 months ago

I glide serenely through the undulating turquoise sea, enjoying the silky sensation of movement as I cut a path through this landscape of… what? Clouds?! The Ultravoid is an utterly surreal place - beautiful, colourful, yet also broken, desolate. This is all that’s left of a host of forgotten worlds, sucked inexorably into the gravitational pull of a massive black hole. Above me, a monstrous-looking creature known as a Remnant patrols the sky, and it’s so large I’ll literally skate along its back when I confront and kill it; part of a desperate bid to save my home planet from becoming the latest victim of The Ultravoid’s insatiable appetite. Solar Ash has some big ideas, and while it’s not all smooth skating thanks to minor control quirks and a couple of design elements that don’t quite reach their full potential, it’s definitely a journey worth taking.

Aftermath, a New Psychological Thriller, Announced for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X

2 years 3 months ago

Italian developer One O One Games and publisher META have announced Aftermath, a new narrative-driven psychological thriller that's in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X utilizing the Unreal Engine.

Players take on the role of former European astronaut Charlie Gray, who is desperately searching a devastated planet for her daughter in the, well...aftermath of something terrible. The extent of that catastrophic event is hinted at in the cinematic trailer, which you can watch at the top of this page.

Though there is crafting and (of course) combat, Aftermath intends to double down on story. One O One CEO David Gallo says that Aftermath "aims to tell a mature story through survival mechanics, one that’s far away from the standard wilderness settings that these games feature normally. We are excited to let people get in touch with the uncanny world we’re creating and the characters who inhabit it!"

You can get an early look at what the team is going for, tonally and visually, in the screenshots above and the concept art images below.

No release date or window has been set for Aftermath as of yet, but the developer and publisher promise regular updates on its progress throughout 2022. You can wishlist it on Steam.

Muv-Luv Alternative Anime Reveals Voice Actors for Yuuhi & Walken & More

2 years 3 months ago

Today Avex has started airing episode 9 of the Muv-Luv Alternative Anime, while the subtitled version will air on Crunchyroll in a couple of hours. This brings the reveal of more voice actors for relevant characters of the series.

We learn that Yuuhi Koubuin is played by Ruriko Noguchi, known for her recent role as Nozomi Nakamura in Tamayomi, Sally in Bofuri: I Don’t Want to Get Hurt, so I’ll Max Out My Defense, and Yura in Azur Lane. Alfred Walken is voiced by Wataru Tsuyuzaki.

We also get to see the 3D model used for the F-22A Raptor, which will appear in today’s episode, on top of several animation sketches from Yumeta Company and TSF clips from Graphinica.

I guess some can be considered slightly spoilery, so if you want to go into the episode fully blind, you shouldn’t watch under the Raptor video.

Titanfall Delisted From Storefronts, But It’s Still Playable For Those That Already Own it

2 years 3 months ago

Respawn Entertainment has announced that its first game, 2014’s multiplayer-only Titanfall, has been delisted from storefronts and will remain delisted for good.

This means that anyone who doesn’t own Titanfall digitally will now not be able to as it’s no longer available for purchase on digital storefronts. However, you could still technically find a physical copy and own it that way. Titanfall will also be removed from subscription services on March 1, 2022, which means it’ll be taken off Xbox Game Pass and EA Play that day.

Fortunately for those that do already own it, Respawn says it’s keeping servers live so actually playing it is still possible for the foreseeable future.

Respawn delisting original Titanfall on digital stores starting today

2 years 3 months ago

Respawn Entertainment has announced it'll be delisting the original Titanfall from all digital stores starting today, 1st December, although servers will remain online for existing players.

In a statement announcing the news on Twitter, Respawn called Titanfall, which launched for Xbox and PC in 2014, a part of its DNA - a game that "showcased the ambitions of the studio" and one that "continues to be a beacon of innovation that we strive for in all of our games". Despite its professed fondness for the title, however, it will be delisted on all digital storefronts starting today and will be removed from all subscription services from 1st March next year.

Respawn Is Ending All New Sales of Titanfall, Removing it From Subscription Services Later

2 years 3 months ago

After seven years, Respawn is finally ending all new sales of the first Titanfall game starting today. Titanfall will also be removed from subscription-based services on March 1, 2022. However, any players who've already purchased Titanfall will still have access to live servers.

Despite the removal, Respawn insisted that Titanfall is part of the company's DNA and that the universe will continue.

Respawn announced its decision Wednesday morning, adding that Titanfall is a central part of the studio's identity.

"Rest assured, Titanfall is core to Respawn's DNA and this incredible universe will continue," Respawn wrote. "Today in Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends, and in the future. This franchise is a north star for the caliber of experiences we will continue to create here at Respawn."

Beyond merely the age of Titanfall, Respawn's original multiplayer FPS has been plagued throughout the last couple of years by a series of hacking attacks that rendered the game mostly unplayable. That led to an outcry from the remaining fan base still playing the 2014 shooter, and even Apex Legends was briefly impacted by what appeared to be a retaliatory hack by unknown perpetrators.

2 years 3 months ago

Update 12/1 2:20 pm PT: PlayStation is offering a unique version of Godfall called "The Challenger Edition" which "focuses on three unique modes: Lightbringer, Dreamstones, and the Ascended Tower of Trials."

As noted in the PlayStation Blog, Godfall: Challenger Edition will be compatible with co-op and cross-gen play, but if players want to access the campaign for Godfall and the Fire & Darkness expansion, they'll need to upgrade to the Deluxe Edition.

IGN has reached out to publisher Gearbox and developer Counterplay Games for more details on the Challenger Edition.

Original Story: PlayStation has announced the PS Plus lineup for December 2021, and the games included are Mortal Shell and LEGO DC Super-Villains for PS4, as well as Godfall for players on PS4 and PS5. The games will be available from next Tuesday, December 7, until Monday, January 3.

Godfall was one of the launch titles for PlayStation 5 last year. It's a multiplayer, gear-based action game that showed off some of the graphical capabilities of PS5. It was later announced that it would be coming to PS4 after launch.

Battlefield 2042 Update 3 Includes Hundreds Of Fixes, Changes, And Improvements

2 years 3 months ago

Battlefield 2042 launched just a few weeks ago, and if the conversation surrounding it can be summarized by one word, that word is “bugs.”

Game Informer’s own reviewer said 2042 is “an otherwise solid online shooter bogged down by an abundance of bugs,” and that’s a sentiment echoed across the entire battlefield discourse. To EA and DICE’s credit, though, the team behind the game has been open about the things it needs to fix, and Update 3, which hits the game tomorrow, is another example of that.

Click here to watch embedded media

“With this update, we’re addressing further bugs and feedback areas which we’ve observed through your gameplay since November 12,” DICE’s post about the update reads. “This means you can expect a large amount of fixes, balance changes, and quality of life enhancements to come your way.”

You can view DICE’s expansive 2042 Update 3 fixes, changes, and improvements list here – it’s huge, with hundreds of bullet points, each detailing a different fix or change coming to the shooter.

Moncage is an emotionally devastating game, but not because of the story it tries to tell. The game asks you to solve puzzles by connecting the violent and the mundane. US Congress Bill Could Be Used to Ban Console Scalper Bots

2 years 3 months ago

A group of Democrat lawmakers have reintroduced a bill aimed at stopping scalpers and the bots they use from hoarding hot-ticket items this holiday season and beyond, PCMag reports.

Dubbed the "Stopping Grinch Bots Act," the bill was reintroduced on November 29 by Representative Paul Tonko (D-NY), Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY), and Senator Ben Ray Luján (D-NM).

“At a time when families should be able to spend time with their loved ones, digital “Grinch bots” are forcing Americans to scour online sites in the hopes of finding an affordable gift or paying exorbitant prices for a single toy,” Tonko said in a press release. “These bots don’t just squeeze consumers, they pose a problem for small businesses, local retailers and other entrepreneurs trying to ensure they have the best items in stock for their customers."

The Stopping Grinch Bots Act would, in writing, enforce these new rules:

Red Dead Redemption 2 Fan Creates a Hilarious Definitive Edition Mock-Up

2 years 3 months ago

Since its release in 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 has stood out as one of the best video games of all time. Even over three years later, players still rave about Arthur Morgan, the Van der Linde gang, and the crazy, emotional adventures that took place throughout the game.

Some of that nostalgia probably has to do with the recent controversy surrounding Rockstar, as fans are not too happy with the quality of the recent release of the GTA Trilogy The Definitive Edition. The games were filled with bugs, control issues, and visual downgrades, leading fans to wonder what would happen in the future if other games in the developer’s catalog received a similar treatment.

The result is a boatload of hilarious memes and even some videos, including the one you see below by YouTuber AkkoCHAKO.

As you can see, this satirical Red Dead Redemption 2 video features some masterful memeing, transitioning from the beauty of the original game to a game state that is similar to what the GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition faced upon its release.

Solar Ash Review – Super Celestial Speed Skating

2 years 3 months ago

2021 has been filled with tons of incredible indie games, like Loop Hero, Cyber Shadow, Inscryption, and so many more. And there is one more banger to fill out the calendar from the team at Heart Machine (Hyper Light Drifter). Solar Ash is a colorful action-adventure experience that sends you speed skating around multiple environments with all kinds of gravity-bending platforming mechanics baked in.

It is a game about going fast and mastering movement, and it tells an important story about cobbling together something worthwhile when life gives you nothing but hopeless situations.

From the start of Solar Ash, you are thrown into a strange and hostile world known as the Ultrvoid. You navigate this black hole that is threatening to destroy your home planet as the Voidrunner, Rei. She is a part of a group (the Voidrunners) that took it upon themselves to save their home planet when the governments of their world could not come to a consensus on how to prevent the world from falling into darkness.

Titanfall Is Being Discontinued & Removed From Gamepass, Respawn Has Announced

2 years 3 months ago

Titanfall, the 2016 multiplayer shooter from Respawn Entertainment, is being discontinued and removed from Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service early next year, March 1. Servers will, however, remain live for those still playing the game.

The news comes by way of an announcement over on the developer’s Twitter channel, which highlights the importance of the Titanfall franchise and Respawn’s intention to keep building games around its universe. It is described as a “north star” for the experiences the developer wants to create moving forward.

It isn’t quite the confirmation of Titanfall 3 that avid fans of the franchise have surely been pining for, but it’s certainly a positive that Respawn is intent on a continuation of its universe in some form — hardly surprising given the success of its Apex Legends battle royale game, which is based on the same lore.

The original Titanfall was, of course, followed by a sequel title that introduced a campaign for the first time. The game received a glowing critical reception but failed to capture a substantial player base, which ultimately saw Respawn abandon the idea of an immediate sequel and pivot to a battle royale spin-off in Apex Legends.

You can read today’s full statement in the image embedded below.
