This Bloodborne Lady Maria Cosplay Is The Best We've Ever Seen

3 years 3 months ago

Cosplay is a phenomenal way for fans of games, movies, and more to express their love for their favorite characters in a totally immersive way. While we're still desperately clinging to Bloodborne 2 hopes and dreams, one cosplayer took their Lady Maria cosplay to incredible heights that are too incredible not to share.

The cosplayer in question goes by Edelxl on socials and they recently shared a new shot of their incredible Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower cosplay, a cosplay they first shared back in 2018. This new shot showcases perfectly the expert craftsmanship put into this particular costume including the hair, makeup, and even a movie-quality backdrop:

The above shot was shared earlier this week and it is beyond haunting. I'm a huge fan of cosplay because the dedication to the craft and the love of these franchises are largely felt. Geeking out feels good but this? This feels like something we'd see in a AAA movie and while this cosplay isn't brand new, we figured it may be new to some! It certainly was new to us here at Game Informer.

Epic Games Is Converting A Shopping Mall Into Its New Headquarters

3 years 3 months ago

When you’re as successful as Epic Games is, you can make just about anything happen. That might range from getting literally anyone and anything to appear in Fortnite, having big companies like Sony invest in you, generating enough cash to go toe-to-toe with Apple, or, I don’t know, buying an entire shopping mall to use as your new headquarters. Well, Epic continues to show that dreams do come true because it did just that: it bought a mall for itself.

The 2020 Steam Awards ended up with some unexpected winners

3 years 3 months ago

After almost two weeks of voting, the polls are closed and the tallies are finalized. We now know the winners of the 2020 Steam Awards, from Game of the Year to Best Soundtrack to Labor of Love.

I knew there was a not-insignificant chance Red Dead Redemption 2 could win Steam's 2020 Game of the Year – it was a finalist alongside Doom Eternal, Hades, Fall Guys, and Death Stranding – but still! I didn't think it would actually pull through. Among PC players, I would've put my money on Hades.

If you're curious like I was: Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on Steam on December 5, 2019, and given that the Steam Awards are a fixture of late December, the timing just worked out that way.

Here's the complete list of finalists and winners for 2020:

Game of the Year

  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Hades
  • Doom Eternal
  • Fall Guys
  • Death Stranding

VR Game of the Year

  • Half-Life: Alyx
  • Phasmophobia
  • The Room VR: A Dark Matter
  • Thief Simulator VR
  • Star Wars: Squadrons

Bethesda might be teasing The Elder Scrolls 6's location, maybe

3 years 3 months ago

Wake up and slap on your lore caps, Elder Scrolls fans. The Elder Scrolls VI may be quite a ways off yet, but that sure hasn’t ever stopped anyone from trying to divine details about where and when it might be set. The game’s afoot once again thanks to a map that Bethesda have posted with a message that seems like it could definitely possibly maybe be a hint that ES6 will head to Hammerfell. Maybe.

New God Of War Comic Explores What Happened To Kratos Following The Original Trilogy

3 years 3 months ago

The original God of War trilogy on PlayStation was nothing short of iconic and Santa Monica's continuation with the overhaul made a beloved franchise even better. That being said, there was a lot left unsaid following the events of the original trilogy, events that will be explored in a new comic series from Dark Horse called God of War: Fallen God.

Written by Chris Roberson, the new comic series kicks off with issue #1 on March 10, 2021 and will explore a narrative surrounding a troubled Kratos trying to escape his past. "Can the tides of time ever wash away the blood sands of sin," asks the introduction to the new God of War comic. "Or do transpired trespasses permanently and inescapably stain one's soul?"

Alongside Roberson taking the helm as the new comic's writer is artist Tony Parker, letterer John Roshell, and the colorist Dan Jackson. We also have stunning cover art from Dave Rapoza, as seen below:

Fallen God is an all-new tale set between the events of God of War III and 2018's God of War. According to the comic's publisher:

Fumito Ueda's team shared a teaser image for their next game

3 years 3 months ago

Rest assured, Fumito Ueda and the rest of genDesign will continue making the kind of games that only they can. In a Happy New Year message for 2021, the studio included a glimpse at its next project.

Currently, the genDesign website is hosting a "We hope you will have a great year" note and a 2021 image featuring Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian, and an as-yet-unnamed fourth game. You can find a high-res upload in the gallery below if you want to soak up every little artistic detail.

The teaser is a very basic but very on-brand look at the probable protagonist standing next to some sort of ruins surrounded by pools of water in an otherwise barren landscape. That's how I see it, anyway.

We don't know when this game will be done (outside of vague notions that it'll be A While), but we do know genDesign signed a "multiplatform" publishing deal with Epic Games in 2020 alongside Remedy and Playdead. Under the deal, the developers retain their IPs and "full creative control of their work."

Things change, but back in 2018, Ueda said his new game would have a scale on par with his prior three.

As much as people have their favorite Ueda games picked out and not everyone enjoys every one of them, I think that everything he's directed has been imaginative and thought-provoking. I'm curious to see which specific elements this next game adapts and introduces, but I'm feeling good about it.

NieR: Automata’s ‘Final Secret’ Lets You Skip the Whole Game After the First Boss

3 years 3 months ago

Back when NieR: Automata originally released in 2017, fans wasted no time in scouring the game for secrets and other hidden easter eggs. However, game director and creator Yoko Taro made sure to mention that there was still one final secret that had yet to be found. It looks like the search is finally over, though, as that secret has been unearthed.

Modder/dataminer Lance McDonald announced on Twitter that he had found a new secret in the game which allowed him to skip ahead to the very end of the game after beating the first boss.

Do be warned that the rest of this article contains spoilers for NieR: Automata’s true ending, so look away if you don’t want to be spoiled.

If you check out his video below, you’ll see that he was able to skip straight to Ending E, where he could sacrifice his save data immediately after defeating the first boss in the game. McDonald makes sure to mention that this isn’t some glitch or exploit either; it’s an actual cheat built into the game.

AGDQ 2021’s Skyrim Speedrun Is a Glorious Reminder of How Janky this Game Is

3 years 3 months ago

Awesome Games Done Quick, often referred to as AGDQ, is now underway and this week is full of yet another set of exciting speedruns to look forward to. AGDQ 2021 is another online event due to COVID-19 concerns, but that certainly hasn’t stopped the speedruns from being entertaining as ever.

Just today, we got to see Nucular do a speedrun of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in the glitchless main quest category. While some might prefer seeing a glitched speedrun of Skyrim where the runner just glitches out of bounds and makes a beeline for areas they’re not supposed to access yet to beat the game quicker, this glitchless run has been endlessly entertaining as well.

Pretty much everything that could go wrong in the speedrun does end up going wrong, including poor AI RNG that would force Nucular to spend more time in a combat encounter than necessary, as well as the game straight up freezing and crashing at the most inopportune times.

Even in a glitchless category, there are still plenty of hilarious tricks that serve as a great reminder of how janky the game was, and still is today. Things like getting the horse to speed up steep hills at an angle, or deliberately pushing NPCs around and shouting at them in the middle of a conversation continue to be entertaining even if it does break the immersion for the sake of going fast.

AGDQ 2021 will continue till the end of the week, and you can check out the runs over at their Twitch channel.

Best Xbox Gaming Headset For 2021

3 years 3 months ago

Microsoft has kept up its dedication to backwards compatibility with the new Xbox Series X and Series S, and that extends beyond games to accessories as well. As a result, every Xbox gaming headset that was compatible with Xbox One can be used with the Series X and Series S, so don't feel like you have to throw out your old Xbox headset and upgrade. But if you are looking to snag a new pair for your shiny new console, there are a ton of Xbox Series X|S gaming headsets to choose from, and it can be difficult to know which headsets are worth your money. We've tested a slew of Xbox headset options and rounded the ones that stand out above the rest.

One perk of owning an Xbox is that some of its finest gaming headset options are able to connect without a USB dongle, just like a controller. These headsets are also capable of turning your console on when powered up. With how sleek the new consoles look, it's always nice when you don't have to add a USB stick to the front of them. One of our favorite Xbox headsets, the SteelSeries Arctis 9X, is capable of doing exactly this and is well worth its hefty price tag.

Rust's Monthly Update Coming Soon, Will Enable Twitch Drops

3 years 3 months ago

Rust, the multiplayer survival game, will implement its first monthly update of the year on January 7 at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET. The devs stated in a Twitter post that players should expect a blueprint and map wipe, as well as Twitch drops. Other specifics are unknown as of this time.

A blueprint wipe deletes, as the name implies, blueprints and players' data, including inventory and positions. A map wipe removes player-made structures, but keeps intact natural terrain and NPC towns--effectively resetting a map. Facepunch, the dev, regularly pushes map wipes at the beginning of every month.

Facepunch will also be enabling Twitch drops, a feature that rewards players for watching Rust streams on Twitch. To get this feature, you need to activate Twitch drops on your Steam account. You can identify which streams to watch by checking if it has the Drops Enabled tag.

Windows Visual Overhaul Leaked Through Microsoft Job Listing

3 years 3 months ago

In a recent job listing for a senior software engineer, Microsoft remarked that they were planning on making some extensive visual changes to the Windows UI to remind their user base that Windows is still a hip OS, as reported by Windows Latest.

The listing stated: "On this team, you’ll work with our key platform, Surface, and OEM partners to orchestrate and deliver a sweeping visual rejuvenation of Windows experiences to signal to our customers that Windows is BACK and ensure that Windows is considered the best user OS experience for customers." The ad has since been altered to remove any references to this Windows makeover, as Windows enthusiasts began to notice it in the listing.

Codenamed Sun Valley, the UI reboot was originally reported on by Windows Central back in late October 2020. According to this report, the planned refresh will most likely arrive as part of Windows 10 Cobalt during the 2021 holiday season, and will be bringing significant updates to user-interfaces like the File Explorer, Action Center, and Start menu. The update is meant to modernize the user experience to match a world that has become accustomed to more lightweight and navigable platforms.

Valve Is Hiring Another Psychologist To "Craft Compelling Gameplay Experiences"

3 years 3 months ago

Valve is looking for a psychologist to join their team and help develop future games and its storefront, Steam. A new listing has been posted to their official site looking for someone to join the studio out of its Bellevue office in Washington state.

"We hire people with broad skill sets who also exhibit deep expertise," the listing reads. "Psychologists at Valve contribute to a wide variety of initiatives across the company and are trusted to prioritize their work in collaboration with their peers."

The studio known for Half Life: Alyx, Team Fortress 2, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has employed a number of psychologists over the years. Valve conducts all sorts of experiments, like one that measures the player's sweat and level of arousal, to learn about player behavior in order to improve their games. The studio even created a version of Portal 2 that players could control with their eyes after it found that players could move their eyes faster than their hands.

"All DSiWare games released before mid-May 2011 have been deactivated on the eShop, including the classic Shantae Risky’s Revenge," reads a tweet from a user who first discovered the removals. "Luckily I got it on my DSi before that shop shut down. Grab from those still for sale while you can!"

Google Workers Have Officially Formed A Union

3 years 3 months ago

After multiple instances of collective action and demonstrations against management decisions, employees at Google have formed a minority union called the Alphabet Workers Union with the help of organizers from the Communication Workers of America, a union group that works with telecommunications and media workers.

Traditionally, when employees come together to unionize in the United States they have to recruit enough employees to petition their state or federal labor board (usually the National Labor Relations Board or NLRB) to hold an election. If employee organizers win the vote in this election, they are recognized by the board and company and can come to the table to negotiate a contract. The Alphabet Workers Union, named for Google's parent company, has taken a slightly different approach to make their organizing more feasible in the generally union-hostile tech industry.

Is Arbiter In Halo Infinite? Here's What His Voice Actor Said When Asked

3 years 3 months ago

2021 is a big year for Halo and Xbox, as Microsoft will finally release Halo Infinite after years of development and a late delay last year. We still don't know much about the game's story, apart from the fact that it is a direct sequel to Halo 5 and takes place on Zeta Halo. Plenty of questions remain unanswered, one of which is whether the Arbiter will make an appearance.

The Arbiter, an alien who befriends Master Chief and appears in Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 5, is voiced by actor Keith David. He recently had some time on his hands and asked people to submit questions to him on Twitter. One person asked if David had a role in Halo Infinite, and the actor gave an intriguing response.

Asked if he could say if he's going to be in Halo Infinite, David said, "I'd have to kill you."
