Take a Look at Star Citizen’s First “Raid Boss” in Action

3 years 2 months ago

The latest update to Star Citizen brought an interesting feature in the form of what’s essentially the growing game’s first “raid boss.”

A sizable chain of missions leads the player to face down an Idris-class frigate, which is a rather massive (242m-long) capital ship armed with a deadly railgun that can blast smaller ships out of the sky from 40 km away.

Of course, destroying it isn’t easy, but it certainly rewards players with a spectacular explosion.

You can check out a few videos below from YouTube users Morphologis,
BoredGamer
, and Star Citizen Jorunn.

The third video is especially interesting as it shows two Isris frigades duking it out. Given Star Citizen’s nature as a sandbox game, it was inevitable that some players managed to steal the ship and turn it against its masters.

That being said, the ship will be implemented for players to use (without stealing it) at a later time, and it won’t even be the biggest available.

Rumor: The Elder Scrolls Netflix Series Is The Latest TV Adaptation

3 years 2 months ago

While The Witcher wasn't a game adaptation (it was based on the novels that inspired the games), Netflix knocked bringing Geralt's life to fans in a whole new way out of the park. With several other gaming adaptations in the works, it looks like a new TV series based on The Elder Scrolls is also coming down the pipeline, at least according to the most recent rumors.

Industry insider Daniel Richtman reported that Netflix is currently pursuing adapting Bethesda's Elder Scrolls universe alongside the already-confirmed plans to bring the world of Fallout 4 into a series format over on Amazon. Neither Netflix nor Bethesda has confirmed these rumors, nor has an Elder Scrolls TV series been marketed in any way at this time. That being said, the TV streaming company has been transparent about looking to explore gaming worlds more closely, which would lend to the beloved franchise of Elder Scrolls being a no-brainer.

Nier: Automata's Game-Skipping Final Secret Discovered Nearly Four Years After Release

3 years 2 months ago

Nier: Automata is a very strange game, with multiple "endings" necessary in order to actually see its final ending and some of its content actually repeated from a different character's perspective. This all comes together to deliver one of the most memorable conclusions in video games, but one clever player has managed to figure out a way to let you skip nearly all of it. In fact, he uncovered the last secret the game was hiding. It only took four years!

Major spoilers for Nier: Automata to follow!

Once you've unlocked ending "E" in Nier: Automata, you're presented with a final credits sequence that sees other players' save data assisting you in a retro shooter sequence to defeat the text itself. Completing this gives you the chance to sacrifice your own save data--thus erasing all of your progress--in order to give another player the chance to beat the game, too. This is where Twitter user Lance McDonald comes in.

In 1998 a small team of Japanese developers spent eight months working on a game called Magic Castle, which they sent off as a pitch to seven major publishers, including Sony. It never went anywhere, but thanks to emulators and the efforts of one member of the original team, we can now play it and enjoy it anyway.

Play Cyberpunk 2077 In Third Person With This Mod

3 years 2 months ago

When CD Projekt RED first announced Cyberpunk 2077 would be largely in first-person (with the exception of driving and photo mode), many fans were upset to see their created characters would be hidden during their adventures. For those hoping for a togglable third-person mode, that's not really a thing, but there is a Cyberpunk 2077 mod that allows you to leave that first-person point of view behind.

This week's Mod Corner features a mod that I have been asked about immensely since the last Cyberpunk 2077 mod recommendation went live. Before we dive into that, however, it is important to remember that this is for PC players only and that the base game is still having bug and glitch issues on a large scale (though several massive patches have improved upon the experience immensely since the rough launch). Knowing that, I recommend backing up all save files before attempted any mod - no matter how big or how small. The bugs happen at random and mods tamper with the intended mechanics of any game, meaning corrupted save files are always a danger.

Now to the mod!

New Uncharted Movie Images Revealed Teasing Tom Holland's Upcoming Adventure

3 years 2 months ago

The upcoming Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland (Spider-Man) as a much younger Nathan Drake is on the horizon and to celebrate, the team behind the adaptation is sharing some new set images.

The latest look offers four new movie images including a map, Holland getting into things he probably shouldn't be getting into, and more. Take a peek at the latest Uncharted stills in the below tweet:

We recently sat down with Nolan North, the incredible voice behind the PlayStation protagonist, to talk about the upcoming film. Now that he's had a plethora of behind-the-scenes action, he told us: "I'm probably most excited to enjoy an Uncharted adventure as a fan just like everyone else," North tells us. "From what I've seen, they've really stayed true to the fun-filled adventure style that the games brought to life so well."

Red Dead Redemption 2 won the 2020 Game of the Year award against nominees Death Stranding, Doom Eternal, Fall Guys, and Hades. While the game originally launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2018, it was released for PC in November 2019 and missed the cutoff to be eligible for The Steam Awards 2019.

Have You Played… Prototype 2?

3 years 2 months ago

James Heller from Prototype 2 flying towards the ground with his big blade arms

The only reason I know the name of Prototype 2’s protagonist (Sgt. James… hang on, let me be sure… yeah, Sgt. James Heller) is because I just Googled it. I think the story involved the playable goodie from the first game turning bad and infecting people with some type of supervillian zombie disease. Also your wife… and daughter (?) are dead.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild uses advanced Mii characters for NPCs

3 years 2 months ago

It appears The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild uses an upgraded version of Nintendo's classic Mii character creator to design many of its NPCs.

That's according to datamined research from HEYimHeroic, a self-professed "Mii expert" who runs the Wii Facts Plus blog.

Within Breath of the Wild's files, NPCs are referred to as "UMii"s (Ultimate Miis?), who use a combination of familiar Mii facial components for their various designs.

Cyberpunk 2077 third-person mod is great for walking - just don't go swimming

3 years 2 months ago

CD Projekt set tongues wagging when it revealed Cyberpunk 2077 would be a first-person game and not a third-person game like its own Witcher series. Now, perhaps inevitably, modders are working on a third-person mode for the game, and the early signs are promising.

Leading the Cyberpunk 2077 in third-person charge is modder Jelle Bakker, whose "TPP MOD WIP third-person" works well in certain situations, such as walking the Night City streets. Grab it from Nexus Mods.

There are a few hoops to jump through in order to get the mod working. For a start, you need to download Cyber Engine Tweaks and install it. And it's worth noting there are two third-person mods available: one for male and another for female V. Once installed, drag and drop the mod's plugins folder with the plugins folder within Cyber Engine Tweaks, and you'll be good to go.

These Nintendo Switch Wireless Controllers are discounted on Amazon

3 years 2 months ago

For those who got Nintendo Switch consoles and games over the holidays, then there's possible good news! Amazon is discounting multiple variations of the Nintendo Switch controller, including multiple Pokemon Sword and Shield-themed options. There's also a lightning deal for a Gamory Wireless Controller, if you're feeling quick on the money.

The options for discounted Pokemon controllers are pretty limited to the most recent starters, with an option for Sobble, Grookey, Scorbunny, and one that has all of them combined (the cheapest one, interestingly). Wireless controllers are seen as pretty helpful for Switch uses, especially to those who like a more classic gaming experience. Speaking personally, they're certainly more comfortable to hold than the regular Switch Joy-Cons, even slotted into the controller attachment.

There's also the Gamory Wireless Controller, which is going for an almost-suspiciously low price, considering the value. Yes, it doesn't look great, visually-speaking, but the review scores are pretty high and if it works as well as a standard controller, it could be worth the risk to budget buyers. If so, be quick! The lightning deal only lasts today until it's back up to £20… though that's still pretty low, come to think of it.

Modder reverse-engineers Nier Automata to discover its "final secret": a cheat code

3 years 2 months ago

An intrepid modder has discovered Nier Automata's "final secret": a cheat code.

Lance McDonald, who Eurogamer has covered multiple times for his varied work on the likes of P.T. and Bloodborne, found a cheat code in the early 2017 release that lets you skip to the last ending immediately after killing the first boss and unlock the bonus modes.

Over the weekend, the English language Nier Twitter account congratulated McDonald for the discovery, and Nier Automata development chief Yoko Taro, who two years ago had teased there was still one final secret no-one had yet found in the game, shared the work, pointing out it took three years and 10 months for the cheat code to be discovered.

NieR: Automata gives up one final secret years after release

3 years 2 months ago

One final secret has been uncovered in NieR: Automata, right on the eve of the title's fourth anniversary. This past weekend, a player uncovered a secret code activated right towards the start of the cybernetic adventure, that allows 2B and friends to skip to the game's conclusion, whilst also unlocking all of NieR: Automata's bonus modes.

The final secret - previously teased by director Yoko Taro in an issue of Famitsu - was discovered by mod-fan Lance McDonald, who shared the discovery via Twitter. The video sees 2B dicking about in between some oil drums, before the screen fades to black and gives players the option to skip directly to the last of NieR: Automata's multiple endings, removing the need for all that joy and effort.

McDonald states that they found the code via "hundreds of hours of reverse engineering," noting that they are currently in the process of making a video explaining how the cheat is activated. Yoko Taro himself has also confirmed that this cheat is indeed the fabled "final secret," bringing to a close the Pandora's Box of mysterious quirks that makes NieR: Automata so enduring.

Square Enix's dystopian spin-off recently celebrated hitting a milestone of some five million shipments and digital sales.

Cyberpunk 2077 third-person mod gives V scary legs

3 years 2 months ago

V has very dead eyes with the Cyberpunk third-person mod.

If you’ve spent hours in Cyberpunk 2077‘s character creator only to be disappointed that the first-person RPG rarely lets you see your gorgeous V, then I have some good news for you. A modder has created a third-person mode so you can see V’s beautiful backside as you play. It works pretty well while you’re running around normally – just be mindful that whipping out a gun contorts V’s body into a terrifying Slinky.

Pathologic devs announce a new game, Know By Heart

3 years 2 months ago

Know By Heart screenshot showing two people standing before a giant tree.

The ever-unpredictable Ice-Pick Lodge, the Russian studio behind Pathologic, have announced their next game. Know By Heart is set in a provincial Russian town and, as far as I can see, this one is not stricken by a plague so we shouldn’t end up desperately rummaging in bins for bottles. Looks like it might just be a touch melancholy, a game about childhood friends reuniting then things going a bit pear-shaped. That’s fine. I don’t know if my heart could take another Pathologic right now. Come see the announcement trailer below.

Hitman 3 will improve the first two's reflections and install size

3 years 2 months ago

A Hitman 3 screenshot showing Agent 47 looks down at Dubai's skyscrapers poking through clouds.

A new Hitman 3 gameplay video shows off Ian Hitman’s first few minutes in Dubai, the dystopian city beloved by the likes of Jim Davidson and #sponcon #influencers. He’s come to do murders during the opening of the world’s tallest building, and it is a pretty one. The video from Game Informer doesn’t show much sneaking or murdering, but it is nice-lookin’. Some of the technical improvements for Hit 3 will benefit the first two games too, one of the game’s devs has revealed, including fancier reflections and a smaller install size.

Cyberpunk 2077 Gets a Third-Person PC Mod

3 years 2 months ago
PC players can now enjoy Cyberpunk 2077 in third-person, thanks to a savvy modder. As reported by PC Gamer, a third-person perspective mod for Cyberpunk 2077 was uploaded to Nexus Mods over the weekend. The JB - TPP MOD WIP Third Person mod is very much a work in progress - in our own brief test, the player model looks... odd in motion, with legs and arms moving unnaturally to account for the intended first-person view. You can probably expect some more general bugs, too. Someone figured out that Zelda: Breath of the Wild NPCs are using an advanced version of the Wii's Mii system

3 years 2 months ago

And the discoveries keep coming!

Zelda: Breath of the Wild is still swinging in 2021, as we approach its fourth (!) anniversary in March. But before that happens, Twitter user HeyImHeroic managed to uncover something new: the origin of many NPC designs.

A self-dubbed "Mii expert," HeyImHeroic notes that the NPCs in the game use an "advanced version of the Mii format," which originates from the Wii era. They explain that it's possible to "inject Miis into the game," and convert them into NPCs via modding.

They even take things a step further with their Mii Library, a site that documents existing Miis. With the Wii, Wii U, and 3DS basically dead, Miis are now essentially a historic relic outside of ancillary content like Smash Ultimate's Mii fighters and the like. It's great to see someone carry on the torch for this era of Nintendo history, documenting it along the way.

Nicalis has announced that Repentance, the long-awaited final expansion for miserable adventure The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, will be making its debut on the PC platform March 31, with console editions to follow some time later down the line.

It's been a wait, but Nicalis has assured fans that The Binding of Isaac: Repentance will be more than worth it. Described by the publisher as "Bigger than a sequel", Repentance will feature new story chapters, extra playable characters, new challenges and achievements, and over 100 new items and enemies - including 25 boss battles. In a press release, Nicalis equates this new content to a whopping 500 hours of gameplay.

The Binding of Isaac: Repentance will be the final update to Ed McMillen's darkly comic adventure, which first launched on PS4, PS Vita, and PC back in 2014, and has since been ported to numerous other platforms including Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.
