PS Now Games For December Revealed: Horizon Zero Dawn, Broforce, And More

3 years 3 months ago

Sony adds new games to its PS Now service every month, and the company has now revealed the six games that will make up December's lineup. It's a fairly stout selection of popular games, including the critically-acclaimed open-world game Horizon Zero Dawn, the side-scrolling smash 'em up Broforce, and several others. Check out the full list of PS Now games below.

The highlights of the list include the demolition derby-inspired racer Wreckfest, the Soulslike slasher The Surge 2, and the high-profile Horizon Zero Dawn. All of these games are available now, though Wreckfest is only part of the service until May 31.

The action movie parody Broforce, the ocean survival game Stranded Deep, and the dark fantasy RPG Darksiders 3 round out this month's selections. As with the rest of the games, they're available immediately, and they don't seem to have any particular departure date, unlike Wreckfest.

Players looking for a challenge may have run through Doom Eternal's Master Levels already, but Id Software has added "an entirely new combat experience" to the challenge levels. Captain Tsubasa: Rise Of New Champions Adds Three New Soccer Pros This Week

3 years 3 months ago

Bandai Namco revealed a new trailer and screenshots for its soccer game Captain Tsubasa: Rise Of New Champions this week, highlighting new characters who'll be added to the game's roster.

Based on the classic manga and anime series created by Yōichi Takahashi, the first DLC for the game will add Swedish nobleman Stevan Levin, Mexican ace goalkeeper Ricardo Espadas, and martial arts striker Singprasert Bunnaak from Thailand.

Each character has their own set of flashy special moves, such as Bunnaak's Muay Thai-influenced kicks that can send a soccer ball hurtling at dangerous speeds or Espada's unbreakable defense in the goalkeeper's pit.

Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti Is Faster Than RTX 2080 Super For Nearly Half The Price

3 years 3 months ago

Just as the end of the year starts approaching, Nvidia has introduced its fourth RTX 30 series card for your consideration this festive season. The RTX 3060 Ti is the most affordable entry into its Ampere-powered generation of GPUs, bringing with it the suite of software enhancements that have made Nvidia's hardware so enticing.

Nvidia is positioning the RTX 3060 Ti not only as the perfect companion for high frame rate gaming at 1080p and 1440p, but also a decent upgrade for anyone on last generation's RTX 2060. This latest GPU is expected to deliver performance on par or better than the RTX 2080 Super, making the RTX 2080 Ti the only 20-series card that can still beat it in most traditional workloads.

That makes its $399 price point more enticing, especially when you consider that it's $300 less than the 2080 Super at its launch price. Nvidia has been driving home better performance for less with the entirety of its RTX 30 series range, and it's seemingly no different with this release.

Doom Eternal Is Finally Coming To Xbox Game Pass PC

3 years 3 months ago

Back in September, the Xbox Game Pass Twitter account playfully teased adding the brutal first-person shooter Doom Eternal to its catalog. While console Game Pass players have had access to the sequel since October, PC Game Pass users have been waiting for its release for months. Now, we know that the game will come to the PC service on December 3.

To be clear, Doom Eternal on Game Pass is the base campaign, meaning it does not include the game's DLC episodes, including the already-released The Ancient Gods, Part 1. According to director Marty Stratton, Part 2 will come at some point between now and March 2021, so keep an eye out for that.

Considering that Microsoft bought Bethesda recently, the publisher of these new Doom games, it makes sense that this high-profile sequel will come to Microsoft's flagship games service. (The software giant claims the purchase isn't about exclusivity, but we'll have to see about that.) In GameSpot's Doom Eternal review, our critic Phil Hornshaw called the game an intelligently-designed follow-up to one of the most intense shooters in years.

The Fortnite Galactus Event Was Fine

3 years 3 months ago

The closure of the Fortnite Nexus War season has been a huge point of hype for players, especially coming off of the heels of that insanely good Travis Scott in-game concert (seriously, I'm not even a fan of his music but that was incredible). So when it was confirmed that Galactus was going to be what this particular closed on, players were primed and ready with front row seats to the latest event. So how was it? It was fine.

The event itself centered around the mighty Galactus making his slow emergence from the water, before basically screaming in player faces to let them know he means business. That business was not as cool as it should have been, because basically it was just stand here, hold down this button, and that's a wrap, have a nice day.

OK, so there was a little more to it than that. After he sends players into the game's map, they meet up with Iron Man who gifts them with a jetpack to confront the enemy. Sitting amidst a sea of busted up battle buses rigged with explosives, the end-season narrative then shifted into having Galactus ingested said battle busses. Mega Marvel Boss Go Boom.

343 Industries Shuts Down Halo Infinite Battle Royale Rumor

3 years 3 months ago

While it's disappointing that Halo Infinite wasn't the launch title it was supposed to be, the team over at 343 Industries is hard at work getting everything titled up and ready for launch. But with the delay comes the return of rumors, something one Halo Infinite fan wanted to address in relation to a particularly pesky battle royale claim.

This isn't the first time battle royale rumors have plagued Halo Infinite. This has been a thing basically since the new game has been announced, and it's no wonder with how popular this genre continues to be. While the battle royale rush has slowed immensely when comparing its growth in 2018 and 2019, the interest in the community (despite what a lot of internet commenters say) is still high and the continued success of games like Warzone, Fortnite, Apex Legends, and even titles like Spellbreak continues to prove that point.

That being said, Halo Infinite will have enough multiplayer modes for players to enjoy and it's not looking to add battle royale into that mix. At least not at this point.

Halo Infinite community manager Brian Jarrard took to Twitter to clear up a few "unfounded Halo Infinite rumors" following several viral reports of a battle royale mode being included in the upcoming game:

Marvel world-muncher Galactus just ate Fortnite

At least, that’s the best I can describe what just happened in Fortnite‘s superhero-packed finale for Chapter 2, Season 4. The cinematic climax to an Avengers-themed period of murder island antics just wrapped up with a wonderfully bizarre dogfighting section, hurling players straight into the planet-killer’s tummy before pulling the servers offline to prepare for season 5.

PS4's End of Year sale is back for 2020

3 years 3 months ago

If you didn't stock up on PS4 games during Black Friday or Cyber Monday, here's another chance. The PlayStation Store is hosting one of its final sales of 2020: the End of Year sale. We've almost made it.

For those of us who have switched over to PS5, it's not always obvious that a promo is running in the storefront unless you specifically go looking for it. But honestly, playing PS4 titles is one of my favorite parts of PS5 now that I've made the rounds with the console's launch lineup. I'm still interested.

Your mileage is really going to vary with this sale given its proximity to the Black Friday selection – and the recurring nature of which games keep popping up in these sales – but I have some suggestions.

The new Nintendo Switch image transfer system is so wild, it's hard to believe it exists

3 years 3 months ago

So uh, a new Switch firmware update is out, and it actually adds features! That's good! But it's a Nintendo update: so be careful what you wish for.

In a monkey's paw of firmware, Nintendo has patched in the ability to transfer images "directly to your smartphone." But I question how direct the whole process is. Strap in, it's a bit weird.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War update includes weapon XP tweak

3 years 3 months ago

Treyarch has released a new update for its recent military shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The patch specifically targets in-game Weapon XP, which has now been tweaked to be a little more generous than it once was.

As players rack up the body count with Cold War's array of death-dealers, various scopes, silencers, extended mags, muzzles, handles and more are unlocked for each weapon, adding stat-adjusting buffs and nerfs to the arsenal of rifles, handguns, and sub-machine guns. The knife does not, however, receive a scope, nor an extended mag.

Since Cold War's launch, some players have felt that the game has been a little stingy with the XP, which led to an all-out assault on tiny map Nuketown '84 this past weekend - frantically grinding out the recent Double XP weekend. But now it seems that the CoD faithful can relax a little, as going forward Weapon XP will be doled out in both Multiplayer and Zombies at a much more substantial rate. Brrap.

Additionally, Activision has announced further Double XP events later this month. So maybe this time don't leave me the sole m'f'er on Checkpoint B while you massage your sniper K/D ratio.

Microsoft Flight Simulator’s CRJ Add-On Gets Awesome Screenshots Showing United 550, EFB, and More

3 years 3 months ago

Aerosoft is continuing to share images of the upcoming Bombardier CRJ add-on package for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

We get to see screenshots of the CRJ 550 in United Express livery, alongside another at night with the Lufthansa Regional livery. The package will include several different real-world liveries and a list will be shared soon.

Another screenshot portrays an interesting detail in the form of the setting sun reflecting on the reflector of the wingtip light.

Last, but not least, we take a look at the EFB (Electronic Flight Bag) including the checklists, the selection screen for aircraft states, the maintenance menu, the performance menu, and the options menu.

This kind of option lineup is on a completely different planet compared to what is included in default aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator. It’s not surprising that even Microsoft and Asobo are eagerly waiting for the CRJ’s completion, considering that it will serve as a primer for more similar productions and the introduction of more and more advanced third-party aircraft.

Fortnite's showstopping Marvel finale drops a huge cliffhanger

3 years 3 months ago

UPDATE 2/12/20: Epic Games has announced a record-breaking 15.3 million concurrent players for its Marvel season finale event, the largest in-game total for Fortnite ever. A further 3.4 million people watched live via YouTube and Twitch, Epic said. You can catch up on everything that happened and watch the event in full yourself below, or see what the new season has in store here.

ORIGINAL STORY 1/12/20: There's been criticism this Fortnite season has been too much of a Marvel advertisement, that the game's first crossover battle pass was too much crossover with too little Fortnite underneath. But after the fireworks of tonight's season finale, and with all the game's Marvel influences seemingly warped out of the way, Epic has left its game on an enormous cliffhanger, and definitively moved on Fortnite's own internal narrative.

Let's recap. Throughout the season, Marvel planet gobbler Galactus has been looming ever closer, drawn in by the temptation of a tasty snack on Fortnite's all-powerful Zero Point. (That's the shiny orb thing which used to live under the old map's Loot Lake, and which seemingly hides beneath this new map, too.)

Planet Zoo adding penguins, otters, seals and more in new Aquatic DLC

3 years 3 months ago

Planet Zoo is set to get a little bit splashier next Tuesday, 8th December, courtesy of its new Aquatic DLC, which adds, among other things, penguins and otters.

The Aquatic DLC is Planet Zoo's fourth paid expansion - following on from its Australia, Arctic, and South America Packs - and is, unsurprisingly, all about water-dwelling creatures. In total, it adds five new animals - the King Penguin, Giant Otter, Diamondback Terrapin, Cuvier's Dwarf Caiman, and Grey Seal - and at least some of these make an appearance in the trailer below.

Additionally, Planet Zoo's Aquatic DLC introduces 170 new water-themed foliage, scenery and zoo construction pieces - including animal sculptures and cascading waterfalls - and there's a new timed scenario set in Oregon too. This one challenges players to flex their management muscles and make the most of a space-limited zoo built on a drained riverbed.

Nvidia is launching the $400 RTX 3060 Ti tomorrow, another GPU you won't be able to buy

3 years 3 months ago

Nvidia has been relentless in its quest to launch a brand new line of graphics cards over the past few months, and that pursuit sees its most sudden addition tomorrow. With exactly one day between announcement and release, Nvidia has introduced the lowest-end (and cheapest) RTX 30 series card that'll still give the 20 series a run for its money.

On December 2, Nvidia will launch the RTX 3060 Ti at a price of $399. In its announcement post, Nvidia says the 3060 Ti is faster than both the RTX 2080 Super (barely) and the 2060 Super (by 40 percent). Like all the 30 Series cards, the 3060 Ti makes use of the new Ampere architecture. It features: "second generation ray tracing cores, third generation tensor cores for AI, Nvidia DLSS, Nvidia Reflex, and Nvidia Broadcast."

Predictably, the initial reviews for the 3060 Ti are coming up all positive. PC Gamer's benchmarks found that it's a great 1440p monitor, can hit some rather high framerates at 1080p, and is capable of doing 4K at 60fps under the right settings. Ars Technica found it to be a quite competent card, especially at the price point. It obviously can't outperform the 3070 (although it's close), the 3080, or the 3090.
