Final Fantasy XIV Getting School Uniform Costumes, With a Caveat

3 years 5 months ago

Today, during a livestream from Korea, the local publisher of Final Fantasy XIV revealed a set of new costumes.

The set is called “Eorzea School Uniform” and it does exactly what it says on the tin with male and female versions.

The caveat is that the costumes will be released first in Korea on Dec. 8. It’s extremely likely that it’ll come to the western servers as well, but we don’t know when.

We can probably expect to know more down the line, but for now we wait.

You can check out a few screenshots and the concept art below.

Fortnite Next-Gen Upgrade Will Arrive When Consoles Launch

3 years 5 months ago
Epic Games has announced what players can expect from the next-generation versions of Fortnite, which naturally includes faster speeds, higher frame rates, and enhanced visuals, and is available from launch of the new consoles. PS5 and Xbox Series X players can expect 4K resolution, 60 FPS gameplay, and dynamic visuals and physics; grass and trees will respond to explosions, while liquids and smoke have more realistic simulation effects. Clouds and the Storm have also been enhanced. Split screen modes also support 60 FPS on these consoles. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/22/fortnite-fortnitemares-2020-midas-revenge-gameplay-trailer"] Loading performance has been upgraded across all next-gen consoles thanks to their SSDs, both in terms of texture load times and the speed at which players can get into a match. For PS5, Fortnite supports the DualSense controller's haptic feedback features, with vibration and trigger feedback. There’s also support for the PS5's home screen Activities, which allows you to go straight to the Battle Royale lobby of your choice - Solo, Duos, or Squads - instead of going via the game’s main menu. The Xbox Series S version of the game supports “most” of the visual enhancements available in the Series X version, but runs at 1080p / 60 FPS rather than 4K. Epic promises all progress from the current-generation version of Fortnite will carry over to your new console. Xbox users will find that data is transferred by their Xbox profile, so will just need to download Fortnite to their Xbox SeriesX|S and start playing.

A Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Player Has Recreated Hogwarts As A Skate Park

3 years 5 months ago

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 has given us a number of amazing custom creations from fans building the skate parks of their dreams, from Spyro and Smash Bros to Super Mario Sunshine’s Delfino Plaza. Now, Redditor Skramblez is upping the ante by making Hogwarts Castle from the Harry Potter series into a true skater’s paradise.

Not only did Skramblez recreate the epic-looking magical castle, the THPS fan also created custom skaters resembling some of the characters from the book and film series--though the antics in the video seem more like something the Weasley twins would pull.

While the custom parks in THPS1+2 are limited in the amount of detail or scope that can be included, the Hogwarts park still includes a couple of epic towers, a few of the castle’s courtyards and, of course, the Great Hall, complete with the four house banners on the wall.

Windbound Is Expanding With Free Content, Photo Mode Available Now

3 years 5 months ago

Windbound will expand with a trio of free major updates over the next few months. The first of three major patches is out now, and it contains some new stat-boosting skins, a photo mode, and and new endless mode for the survival game.

The new Witch Skins are made up of three items--the Witch's Hat, Witch's Outfit, and Witch's Staff--which give you a healthy stat boost when equipped. The hat makes potions last longer, the outfit gives you easier, closer respawns, and the staff is an unbreakable weapon that fires out enemy-seeking orbs after each melee attack.

Photo Mode, meanwhile, lets you pause the game and line up a photo, changing how Kara's posed and adding filters. It lets you change your position, camera orientation, and mess with field of view, exposure, and time, just as in most photo modes. You can also equip Kara with a variety of different hats and accessories, getting some nice shots of your adventures.

Twitch’s DMCA Situation Is Still Causing Issues For Streamers

3 years 5 months ago

In the midst of another wave of DMCA takedown notices, Twitch recently advised streamers to delete their entire archives of clips or VOD if they couldn’t be sure it didn’t contain copyrighted material. Now, one streamer has shown how difficult that task can be, with increasingly unrealistic copyright claims.

Twitch has had ongoing issues with DMCA this year, with its most recent wave of takedowns seeing the streaming platform sending a one-size-fits-all warning to streamers who had hosted infringing content. Twitch has since returned to sending out regular copyright notices, though they still aren’t helpful for streamers who want a long-term solution.

The issue has been illustrated by streamer Jake’n’Bake, who received a copyright notice over a snippet of a Kanye song appearing in a video from an IRL stream from 2018. As he points out, he never played the song himself, but likely walked past a business or person playing it.

Ubisoft's Avatar Game Has Been Delayed Alongside Far Cry 6 And Rainbow Six Quarantine

3 years 5 months ago

Far Cry 6 and Rainbow Six Quarantine aren't the only Ubisoft games that have been delayed. The French publisher confirmed in its latest report that its new Avatar game based on the James Cameron film franchise has been pushed to a new date further in the future.

This new Avatar game, which is in development at The Division studio Massive Entertainment, will now release during Ubisoft's financial year that begins in April 2022. The first Avatar movie sequel, Avatar 2, is scheduled for release in December 2022 after its own delay. It would make sense that the game will release around that time to capitalize on the hype, but no firm date has been announced yet.

The new delay for the Avatar game was made in response to the delay of the movie, Ubisoft management said on an earnings call.

Bethesda's Todd Howard On Why He Feels "Extremely Optimistic" About Xbox Game Pass

3 years 5 months ago

One of Microsoft's secret weapons for next-gen is Xbox Game Pass, the company's subscription service that already has 15 million members. It could be a big deal in the future, as the subscription model shakes things up in terms of the business of how people consume games.

Todd Howard, a veteran Bethesda executive who recently joined Xbox with ZeniMax's sale to Microsoft, has offered some thoughts on Game Pass--and he is optimistic about its ability to positively impact gaming.

He told GI.biz that Game Pass has the potential to help games succeed where they might not have otherwise.

The Next Dark Pictures Anthology Game, House Of Ashes, Revealed

3 years 5 months ago

A second game in the Dark Pictures series, Little Hope, has revealed a third game with a post-credits trailer. The next game is called House of Ashes, and it’s got some serious “the opening scenes of The Exorcist” vibes.

House of Ashes looks like it'll incorporate elements of Sumerian mythology, and will feature Ashley Tisdale in a major role (presumably not as one of the "Ashes" that the house belongs to, though). It looks likely that she'll be one of the playable--and potentially killable--characters.

The trailer has not been officially released by Bandai Namco yet, but you can watch a capture from the finale of Little Hope below.

This is the same way that Little Hope was revealed, with a trailer shown at the end of Man of Medan. It's unclear which systems House of Ashes will come to, but the two previous games have launched on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

The Dark Pictures films follow on from Supermassive Games' earlier hit Until Dawn, which was a PS4 exclusive. The games that have followed have been shorter and featured multiplayer modes.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare Is Now The Best-Selling Game In Franchise History For First Year

3 years 5 months ago

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare continues to break sales records. Activision Blizzard has announced that the game's first-year sales are the highest in Call of Duty's history. However, the company did not provide an exact sales number.

That is a notable achievement given that the figure only covers up to September 30, so the game--which released in October 2019--didn't even need a full year to break the single-year sales record for the franchise. It's not immediately clear which title was previously the record-setter for first-year sales.

Activision also announced that two-thirds of Modern Warfare's lifetime sales were digital. That's good for Activision, as the company makes more money from digital game sales than boxed copies.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a PS5 exclusive, Insomniac insists

3 years 5 months ago

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is a PlayStation 5 exclusive, Insomniac has confirmed.

The developer responded to a tweet from someone wondering whether the upcoming platformer will be released on the PlayStation 4 as well as the PS5. It's answer is unequivocal.

Given Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart's use of the PS5's fast loading to instantly teleport the player to new worlds, the game would probably have to be significantly reworked for PS4. But some had wondered about the exact nature of its exclusivity given recent revelations about other PS5 games, such as Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Horizon: Forbidden West, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure, which are also coming to PS4 when they were initially announced for PS5.

Mod Corner: Silent Hills P.T. Recreated In Doom

3 years 5 months ago

While the future of Silent Hills remains unclear and P.T. remains an unfinished journey, one Doom fan decided to carry on this horror adventure's legacy in a different way. Hideo Kojima's P.T. has seen many iterations since the demo was released, including mods meant to piece everything together to create a 'full' game. The latest fan to try their hand at solidifying this horror experience decided to recreate P.T. in Doom.

This isn't a total 1.1 remake but the P.T. Doom creation from Andrea Gori is still darn impressive. Every sequence has been recreated within Doom as close to the original P.T. experience as possible. The best part for those that love the retro feel of Doom, this experience looks incredibly accurate to the P.T. demo without losing the retro texturisation we are all so fond of.

Take a look at the walkthrough in the video below:

Click here to watch embedded media

For those that want the Doom P.T. experience, it's downloadable now for those that have GZDOOM (which is free) on PC. For those that have other mods active, it is important to keep an eye on what's compatible and what isn't. According to the creator, this experience won't be game-breaking with other mods as long as they are specifically using GZPT. Anything outside of that is liable to cause crashing and other breaking bugs.

Here's What Fortnite Brings To PlayStation 5 And Xbox Series X/S

3 years 5 months ago

Fortnite

Fortnite is inarguably one of the biggest games of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One generation. In fact, it was such an influential game and phenomenon that we called it generation-defining in our end-of-generation awards. Today, developer Epic Games detailed exactly what its iconic battle royale game brings to the next-gen consoles when it launches alongside them next week.

On the Xbox Series X/S side of things, players can expect 60 frames-per-second performance (even in splitscreen), with 4K resolution on the Series X and 1080p resolution on the Series S. The Xbox Series X version delivers dynamic visuals, with trees and grass responding to explosions, better simulations for smoke and liquid, and all-new storm and cloud effects. The Series S supports most of those enhancements as well, but Epic doesn't specify exactly which ones. The load times on both consoles are also significantly improved, delivering textures faster while also getting you into matches quicker.

Netflix's The Witcher Is Partnering With McFarlane Toys For New Figure Line

3 years 5 months ago

Netflix's The Witcher season 2 is in progress currently after several major hiccups surrounding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. With a few firsts looks and a little recasting, the witchers have yet another surprise in store for fans: a new toy line from McFarlane Toys.

This isn't the first time McFarlane Toys has adapted the Witcher universe but the new additions will be specific to the Netflix series, a series set before the time seen with CD Projekt RED's adaptation. The news of the new line comes by way of Toys News International with confirmation that the new line will include a few figures, though which characters we'll see have yet to be revealed. We do have a spiffy teaser image though, one that includes the wolf and swallow symbol:

New Toys International

McFarlane Toys isn't abandoning the games though, don't worry. Just last month the toy company confirmed a few new additions to its Withcer line up, including Eredin and the new Gold Label series that is available now to pre-order.

Apex Legends boss: 'You're probably going to see the game becoming more than just a battle royale'

3 years 5 months ago

Although Apex Legends isn't quite the streaming-chart-destroyer it once was (overtaking League of Legends at one point), it's still very regularly found on the top 10 Twitch stream list.

EA is riding that gamble all the way to the bank, as it remains one of the more popular battle royale titles in a sea of games that were dragged under the tide. Director Chad Grenier thinks it's here to stay too, noting that the game could even evolve to become more than just a battle royale title.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Grenier explains that Respawn has content planned "all the way up to Season 12," which is a full four seasons ahead of Season 8, which isn't due until 2021 (Season 7 hasn't even started yet). Once Season 8 is shipped, the team will start working on Seasons 13 and 14, he says; giving us a vague idea of how far ahead the team works.

He also clarifies that Respawn does "a lot of things to mitigate data mining," claiming that many other future bits of content could have been uncovered if they weren't actively fighting the practice. With that in mind, the director says that it's "fair game," even if the team is "bummed out" when content is spoiled.

Grenier says that "looking into the future, you're probably going to see the game becoming more than just a battle royale game." While that statement could be foreshadowing drastic change, the example Grenier gives in this context is the addition of more limited time modes "as a starting point" for what might come down the line. An arena battle gametype has been datamined, which might be what he's alluding to.

Can you believe it? We are less than 10 days away from the launch of a brand new generation of gaming. On November 10, Xbox will be first out of the gate with the launch of its Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S hardware, promising power and technology like none we have seen from consoles before.

The figure, portraying heroine Ryza herself, will come from Wonderful Works, which is responsible for the creation of a very popular figure dedicated to the first game (popular enough to get a second print).

For now, we get to see the unpainted prototype. Of course, it will be painted before the figure is actually manufactured. Incidentally, this may very well be the first figure announced for a PS5 game.
