Dead By Daylight Getting Next-Gen Release With Free Upgrades

3 years 7 months ago
Dead By Daylight is set to receive a visual overhaul ahead of its Holiday 2020 next-gen release, with a series of free updates coming to the game over the next year. Current-gen owners will also automatically be given a free upgrade to the next-gen versions of the game. The Realm Beyond project will upgrade the Dead by Daylight experience on PC, Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and Google Stadia with free updates that will address the game's "visuals, graphics, lighting, animations and more" More specifically, this means ongoing support for the game's introduction of Cross-Play, "more environmental elements in the Killing Grounds" and "more realistic modelling and texturing" for Dead by Daylight's characters, informed by the established lore. "Tens of thousands of assets" are set to be enhanced as part of the overhaul, and these visual improvements will be pushed to the game every six weeks in line with Dead by Daylight's current content roadmap. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/10/22/dead-by-daylight-stranger-things"] Having recently surpassed 30 million players, these updates arrive in service of "building up to a Dead by Daylight experience for the next generation of consoles," which will run at 4K 60 FPS and arrive later this year, during the Holiday 2020 launch window. Players who own Dead by Daylight on current generation consoles will be able to upgrade to the next-gen platform of their choice and keep all of their progression. In other Dead by Daylight news, check out this spooky trailer from when the game introduced its Silent Hill DLC, which features series characters Pyramid Head and Cheryl Mason. Nintendo Switch eShop Gets Customer-Friendly Improvements

3 years 7 months ago
Nintendo Switch's eShop has changed its pre-order policy to allow customers to cancel without payment up to a week before release, and added some useful signalling about sales ending. Both changes have been made without much fanfare, although both benefit the customer. The pre-order policy, as confirmed by Nintendo of America's FAQ, replaces the previous system in which pre-orders were charged for immediately. Now, the charge won't go through until 7 days before the game's release, and can be cancelled freely at any time before that. It will be a welcome change for many - Norwegian and German consumer authorities had previously (and unsuccessfully) attempted to have Nintendo's original pre-order system deemed illegal in Europe. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/nintendo-eshop-the-download-august-2020-trailer"] As reported by Nintendo Life that change seems to have come alongside another new eShop feature, whereby games with a discount are marked with how much longer that discount will apply for. User wishlists, the Great Deals page, and the eShop homepage all now display time left discounted. Recently, we've heard reports that an updated Switch model could arrive during 2021, and will allegedly feature improved "interactivity" and a better quality display. Hands On With The First Hour of The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon DLC

3 years 7 months ago

In one week’s time everybody will be able to play the long-awaited DLC for The Outer Worlds, Peril on Gorgon. For now, I’m allowed to tell you about the events of the first hour, which, in short, is very much more of the same and a great reminder of why I enjoyed The Outer Worlds so much when I first played Obsidian’s original first-person RPG for review. Based on what I’ve played I don’t expect Gorgon to shake up the mechanics much, if at all, but I’m intrigued to see where this tongue-in-cheek detective story takes us.

Brilliantly tactile, Game of Thrones: Tale of Crows feels like a new genre of game-as-interface

3 years 7 months ago

The setup is this: you're playing through the history of the Night's Watch, set thousands of years before the events of George R.R. Martin's books and HBO's TV show, around the era of Bran the Builder, original Papa Stark. First, you choose a character to be Lord Commander for a while - this changes, with new Commanders and new stories for them generated indefinitely - then you make a few decisions, you send a few people on some errands, and then you wait. Just chill out for a bit. Watch little symbols slowly burrow their way into the wild forests of the north and gaze at the lovely artwork or just go for a walk, read an article, do something else entirely.

This is the essence of proper idle games, but in Game of Thrones: Tale of Crows that essence feels distilled to its purest, and there's a kind of clarity of design that comes from it. What you're doing, as with most idlers like it, is sort of inconsequential: some more minor, barely registering decisions might arise, and you might decide to send some builders to I don't know, build something, with a waft of your begloved Lord Commander's hand, and then word comes back by raven from a scouting mission and there's another minor thing to do - then something more major, a crumb of lore or sprinkle of typically cloak-and-dagger intrigue to break it up - and back to the break. But the way you do it is sublime. Tale of Crows' magic is its interface.

PSN Essential Picks sale includes loads of PS4 favourites for cheap

3 years 7 months ago

The PSN Essential Picks sale is now underway over on the PSN store, featuring a handful of top PS4 games at some of their lowest prices yet.

Having had a quick browse through the list, there are a decent number of must-play current-gen games in there for cheap. Consider it a good opportunity to catch up on any you've missed, what with the PS5 release (supposedly) imminent. Considering their popularity, many should also be backwards compatible with the PS5, too!

Let's start with a significant bargain: Fifa 20 for only £4.19. I get that most will want to be up to date with Fifa 21 when it launches next month, but this is ridiculously cheap if you just want a quick kickabout.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ash Williams rumor refuses to stay buried

3 years 7 months ago

Following recent comments from voice actor Richard Epcar, Mortal Kombat 11 fans are being given new hope that Evil Dead's wise-cracking hero Ash Williams will be joining the gory fighter's roster at some point in the future.

Epcar - who portrays both thunder god Raiden and DC Comics' Joker - re-lit the rumour fire during an online Q&A session with fans held this past weekend. "Oh, that's right," stated Epcar when questioned. "Bruce Campbell will be in Mortal Kombat. He's going to be a part of the new package." (Clip courtesy of @masterofcold.)

The Ash Williams x Mortal Kombat furor began with online whispers that the Deadite slayer was coming to MK 11 within the first wave of DLC. This rumor was backed up when "Ash" was discovered in a datamine of the PC release, (a datamine which would correctly predict the rest of MK 11's Kombat Pack). If this wasn't enough, then the first teaser trailer for the Kombat Pack included the sound of a buzzing chainsaw.

Bungie pulls back the curtain on Destiny 2's new Warlock subclass

3 years 7 months ago

If you're looking forward to the new Destiny 2 expansion, you're probably focused in on the upcoming stasis subclasses.

It's a pretty huge deal for the series as they haven't had a new subclass...since the start, and now all three classes are getting one. This week, Bungie decided to start breaking them down individually, and decided to go with the Warlock (the best class) for their initial salvo.

As a reminder, the Warlock's stasis subclass is the Shadebinder. As Bungie puts it, the style is to "freeze as many enemies as possible," with a projectile-based playstyle. And what would a Warlock be without a staff: Shadebinders can summon a Stasis weapon to unleash shockwaves and stasis projectiles.

Aspects and Fragments will now further customize the subclass, which dangerously sounds like another added element of grinding at first glance. An example Bungie gives is "finding a Frostpulse Aspect" in the wild, which provides a freezing modifier to their Rift power. Neat, but I hope these don't take forever to farm.

Bungie says that "stasis will change the way you play Destiny 2," and I sure hope so. Although it still plays wonderfully due to the incredibly strong shooter foundation, it'll be nice to finally mix things up with a different subclass after several years of the same old thing (and that's just Destiny 2).

Cyberpunk 2077 tech video shows off GeForce RTX 30 effects

3 years 7 months ago

CD Projekt RED, in association with Nvidia, has released a short tech video for upcoming RPG Cyberpunk 2077, showcasing its deadly future-noir universe as powered by Nvidia's shiny new range of GeForce RTX 30 graphics cards.

The trailer offers a brief look at several locales within the neon-tinged 'berg, with powerful ray tracing and DLSS 2.0 effects presenting the city at its absolute finest. Predictably, Night City looks absolutely fantastic, with dazzling colour, realistic reflections and shadows, and an abundance of real-time particles, with resolution sharper than a razor blade.

You don't have to take my word for it, check out the video for yourself below.

Cover Reveal – Kena: Bridge Of Spirits

3 years 7 months ago

Kena: Bridge of Spirits was one of the standout trailers shown during Sony's PlayStation 5 reveal event, introducing players to a beautiful world and a host of cute helpers known as the Rot. We're excited to announce that Ember Lab's lush adventure game is our next cover story. In the next issue of Game Informer magazine, we take a closer look at the game and its fascinating development.

How did a studio with roots in commercial animation move over to the world of video games? How did the team land on the idea of a young adventurer on a mission of healing and reconciliation? What the heck are the Rot? And how did an up and coming studio not only get their hands on PlayStation 5 development tools but also land a highly coveted slot in the console's first major announcement event?

We explore those questions and many more in our 14-page cover story, which will be hitting next week. Sorry to keep you waiting, but we were too excited about this one to stay completely quiet.

The Falconeer Is Running a Closed Beta; Registration Kicks Off Today

3 years 7 months ago

Publisher Wired Productions and developer Tomas Sala have today announced that their open-world air combat game, The Falconeer, is set to run a closed beta trial ahead of its full launch in November.

The beta will run in October with an official date yet to be confirmed, but those interested can go and register over on the game’s official Discord channel.

A new trailer celebrates the announcement, giving us another look at its fantasy dog-fighting gameplay, set to the backdrop of an absolutely beautiful, stylized open-world.

If you’re not up to speed with The Falconeer, the game was first announced during Microsoft’s X019 showcase. It’s described as is an airborne “ocean-world” fantasy RPG set in a location called The Great Ursee. The game will see players take their armed aerial mount to the skies to explore a haunting world and defeat enemies with range attacks that combine classic dogfighting with acrobatic twists and turns.

For more on the game’s narrative and lore, you can check out a story trailer that was revealed earlier this summer.

CyberConnect2 Reveals Why .hack//G.U. Last Recode Is Not on Switch; Would Love to Make It Happen

3 years 7 months ago

Today developer CyberConnect2 released a new video explaining why .hack//G.U. Last Recode was never launched on Nintendo Switch.

CyberConnect2 president Hiroshi Matsuyama reveals that the studio actually made the proposal to release the game on Nintendo’s console multiple times, and even during the development of the PS4 version, they were aware of the popularity of the Switch.

While there was a talk about the possibility, the .Hack series has always been exclusive to PlayStation consoles and due to the long-standing relationship with Sony, it was difficult to release the game on Switch at the same time.

Yet, CyberConnct 2 would love to port the game to Nintendo’s platforms. They have made the proposal to Bandai Namco several times, but they were told that it’s hard to predict the cost of such an operation compared with the potential sales, which prevented it from happening.

Matsuyama-san concludes mentioning that if Nintendo Switch users would like the game on their consoles, they should contact Bandai Namco. This could change the publisher’s mind because it values feedback from the fans.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2 Premieres in October

3 years 7 months ago

2020 has been saved, everybody. Disney has announced that the much-anticipated second season of Star Wars: The Mandalorian will be premiering on Disney+ on Oct 30.

Unfortunately, this announcement from Disney doesn’t come with any other information on the live-action Star Wars series. We don’t know how many episodes it’ll be but we can assume that each one will premiere on a weekly basis; a rollout that keeps the conversation going for months instead of over a weekend or two.

The Mandalorian premiered exclusively on Disney+ last year and stars a bounty hunter who finds himself having to take care of a strange green alien that is known as “The Child,” but we all just call him Baby Yoda.

If you’ve already watched the entire first season of The Mandalorian, I highly recommend checking out Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian. It’s a wonderful documentary that includes commentary from all of the directors and really dives deep into how the first live-action Star Wars show was created.

And if you’re looking for even more Star Wars goodness, make sure to watch the latest gameplay trailer for Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and Star Wars: Squadrons.

The post Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2 Premieres in October appeared first on Twinfinite.

Desperados 3 is now on Mac and Linux, and its first DLC is out

3 years 7 months ago

Here’s a fun computing fact for you: the Linux term root is derived from the cowboy term rootin’ tootin’, because the console cowboys who clip-clopped on their mechanical keyboards like a bucking bronco and listened to Fields Of The Nephilim would cry “Yeehaw!” and wave their leather Stetsons when they got system admin rights – a real rootin’ tootin’ time. How fitting, then, that wonderful Wild West squad tactics game Desperados 3 today launched a Linux version. A Mac version arrived too, so even those city slickers might be tempted by the cowboy lifestyle.

The first paid DLC mission is out now too, plus a challenge mission that’s free for all players.

Horizon Zero Dawn PC patch stops Aloy being a tiny child forever

3 years 7 months ago

A screenshot of Aloy shrugging and looking confused from Horizon Zero Dawn.

The battle to make Horizon Zero Dawn stop crashing on PC continues with the game’s latest patch, which came out this week. Turns out there are an awful lot of ways for Guerrilla’s cyber dino-hunting adventure to crash, from GPU hangs to AI aiming at weird places. These are amongst the issues solved this week, as is a slightly weirder problem which caused players to get stuck in preteen Aloy’s body long after she should’ve turned into an adult.

The New Mutants Is a Fitting Final Act for Fox's X-Men Franchise

3 years 7 months ago

The New Mutants is a curious quagmire of a film that’s been defined by “what ifs” from the moment it was announced five years ago. What if it followed Apocalypse’s example and dragged the X-Men cinematic franchise further into the gutter? What if it somehow managed to be good? What if The New Mutants actually lived up…
