New Borderlands 3 patch fixes a ton of nasty Mayhem 2.0 bugs

3 years 10 months ago

So Mayhem 2.0 is here, and it should keep Borderlands 3 players pretty busy for a while.

In short, it's a complete overhaul of the original endgame Mayhem system, with 10 difficulty levels in tow on various tiers that feature tougher enemies and better loot. But like any major upgrade for a big game these days, it came with bugs. The most recent April 30 hotfix aims to stamp a lot of these out.

According to Gearbox, when the system arrived on April 23, the userbase pretty much unanimously reported stability problems. The issue arose from "two resource intensive Mayhem modifiers," which apparently borked the game as a whole: Boundary Issues and Drone Range.

The former was supposed to feature an elemental beam that attached to players when they were close to enemies, but ended up sticking around on the battleground and hogging resources. Drone Range gave enemies healing drones and also messed things up.

If you were having problems, grab the new hotfix and jump back in. You can find the full patch notes below, which also impact bugs from Guns, Love, and Tentacles.

An appreciation of Laura Shapiro, a historian who found her place in the kitchen

3 years 10 months ago

My current TV addiction is the FX/Hulu miniseries Mrs. America, about Phyllis Schlafly’s battle to stop the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment. One of the main ways Schlafly sets herself apart from the second wave feminists—northeastern elites, as she calls them—is her insistence that she’s just standing up for the…

How to Watch the Virtual Kentucky Derby This Weekend

3 years 10 months ago

The Kentucky Derby was originally slated to happen this weekend, but like most everything else worth getting excited about, it has been postponed to later in the year. This is only the second time the race has even been postponed in its storied 146-year history. (The first time was in 1945, in the final year of World…

Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ New May Day Tour Is a Fun Twist on Basic Game Mechanics

3 years 10 months ago

At its very core, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is an easy game to play. Press a button to bring up your inventory, press A to use your tools, hold B while moving to run, and you can jump over small gaps if there are any. The control scheme is extremely easy to get the hang of, and while this game is a cornucopia of creativity and individualism, anyone can play it at a base level. Which is why the new May Day Tour activity feels so ingenious and impressive.

With the new update, players can now check out a special May Day Tour during the first week of May where you fly out to an island with no items on you. Your task is to get to the end of a hedge maze with nothing but the tools and items provided to you on the island.

My first thought was, how hard could it be? It’s Animal Crossing. This is a baby game. Oh, how wrong I was.

Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous Closed Alpha Testing Has Begun

3 years 10 months ago

Developer Owlcat Games’ anticipated CRPG sequel Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous has moved into the first phase of its alpha testing. From now until May 21, those who backed the game over on Kickstarter will be able to play its first two chapters of the epic adventure.

The announcement was made today via a press release sent to Twinfinite, which featured a statement from head of studio Oleg Shpilchevskiy, who said:

“These are rough times we are living in right now, but we are doing our best to keep up with our development schedule and deliver the game as promised.

Now that the alpha version is available to our backers, we are thrilled to receive feedback from our core fans.”

The alpha allows fans to try out six new classes and two prestige classes alongside the full roster featured in Pathfinder: Kingmaker. This version also includes 10 new companions and gives players the opportunity to take their first steps toward one of six Mythic Paths (eight will be available once the full game launches next year).

Shpilchevskiy continues:

“This is a significant moment for us – it will show us if we are on the right track. Moreover, a lot of the new features we’ve included were funded as stretch goals during our Kickstarter campaign. It’s time to show our progress on some of them, and I hope the backers will be happy with what they see.”

The features Shpilchevskiy refers to include mounted combat, increased reactivity for companions, and a meeting with a new companion named Woljif Jefto. These, however, the developer notes as not yet being complete and likely not to work perfectly. Bugs and performance issues should also be expected, and players are encouraged to report them via the survey form included with alpha access.

Put some Dragon Age in your Sims 4 with these free mods

3 years 10 months ago

It’s been a while since I properly trawled the unmapped, here thar be monsters waters of The Sims Resource for some new mods for The Sims 4. I’ve settled into a bit of a routine where I just wait for my favourite makers like Ravasheen to put up their new stuff, and Bob (Pancakes) is your mother’s brother.

But in a fit of quarantine madness I have decided to play through all of the Dragon Age games again, starting all properly with Origins and everything. And the other night, I was struck with inspiration. Surely the nerds have made a bunch of DA stuff for The Sims 4?

This Bannerlord mod makes weapons actually hit people

3 years 10 months ago

While Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord‘s combat will never be mega-realistic, a new mod brings a few animation tweaks to make it look less cartoony. Where blades currently pass clean through a target’s body, looking like they should be cleft in twain, the Realistic Weapon Collision mod will make strikes get stuck a bit into their bodymeat or glance off their armour. The end result is weapons have more of a physical presence and less like they’re slashing about in Devil May Cry. A small but neat mod.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake director says that the new Remake is the fifth installment of the VII Compilation

3 years 10 months ago

Final Fantasy 7 Remake feels like it took forever to come out, but actually, it's been on Square Enix's mind "for a very long time," according to new information found in an Ultimania book interview (translated by Twitter user aitaikimochi).

Clarifying when the idea for the "Remake Project" started, director Tetsuya Nomura and producer Yoshinori Kitase noted that it would have came out a while ago, but the team was "short on resources" and "busy with other things." According to Nomura, this is actually the fifth installment of the "Compilation of FFVII," a term widely used by Square. The others? Advent Children, Before Crisis, Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus.

We Know Tom Nook Is Evil, Here Are 10 More Memes to Prove It

3 years 10 months ago

As soon as Animal Crossing: New Horizons crashed onto the Nintendo Switch like a tidal wave, I discovered a treasure trove of hilarious Animal Crossing memes. Specifically, memes involving everyone’s least favorite tycoon, Tom Nook.

Nook has been the face of the Animal Crossing franchise since 2001, but players and critics alike have decried him as a capitalistic jerk who likes to keep his villagers in a cycle of financial misery as vicious as it is in the real world, student loan debt notwithstanding.

Here are the memes that prove Tom Nook is an evil, evil man.

Cyberpunk 2077 Introduces the Inevitable Japanese-Inspired Gang, Tyger Claw

3 years 10 months ago

Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED is continuing to introduce organizations and gangs that you’ll meet while playing the massively-anticipated RPG.

This time around we get the introduction of an interesting gang named Tyger Claw inspired by Japanese traditions. They feel like a mix been a biker gang and yakuza.

They hang out in Japantown and they look intimidating, while their methods are ruthless and violent.

They ride street bikes and carry katanas, while their bodies are decorated by luminous tattoos.

13 Tiny Animal Crossing New Horizons QOL Changes That Would Make a Huge Difference

3 years 10 months ago

Bulk Storing & Removing Items

The world of Animal Crossing is very item-focused. You’ve got your tools, clothing, accessories, furniture, bugs, fish, and any other nicknacks you want.

Fortunately, Nintendo introduced house storage in New Horizons providing players with tons of space to store their stuff without having to fill their actual house rooms with the guff. The problem with this comes when you go to put items in and out of storage, though.

My favourite Viking cowboy YouTuber is working on Assassin's Creed Valhalla

3 years 10 months ago

In his Twitter bio, Dr. Jackson Crawford describes himself as “like if you crossed a viking and a cowboy, but got all recessive traits”. Being a cross between a cowboy and a Viking makes Dr. Crawford frontrunner in the race to be a real life version of what five-year-olds say they want to be when they grow up. And now he can add “works on video games” to the list, because Dr. Crawford revealed on Twitter yesterday that he’s been collaborating with Ubisoft on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Dr. Crawford has chops in this area, of course. He’s Director of Nordic studies at the University of Colorado in Boulder, teaching Old Norse mythology and language. Dr. Crawford has a popular YouTube channel and a Patreon where he’s been posting videos about cool Norse stuff since around 2016. Perhaps unique amongst academic YouTubers, or YouTubers in general, he also records these videos having hiked out into the wilds of Colorado, so they all have stunning backdrops.

Here's Assassin's Creed Valhalla's female lead

3 years 10 months ago

While the Assaassin’s Creed Valhalla debut cinematic trailer yesterday focused on the male option for our Viking lead, Eivor, Ubisoft did give several peeks at the female Eivor. Like with Odyssey before it, Valhalla will give us a choice to play a male or female character and both look quite willing and able to split skulls. The most obvious look at her is the figurine in the Collector’s Edition, but she snuck into some screenshots too.
