Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered not for sale on Russian PlayStation Store

Yesterday, publisher Activision did a (sort of) surprise drop for Call of Duty fans, releasing a remastered edition of its infamous Modern Warfare 2 single-player campaign. However, the new release did not show up on the Russian PlayStation Store, and is apparently unlikely to do so anytime soon.

A translated tweet taken from the Russian Call of Duty Twitter account reads thus: "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is a completely fictional 2009 campaign, recreated in HD quality. SIE decided not to sell the game in the Russian PS Store. We look forward to the release of the game in digital form for the PC on Battle.net and on Xbox console."

For those who haven't experienced the grim events of Modern Warfare 2's campaign, the plot is not exactly kind to Russia, its citizens, or its military. The opening act features a horrifying civilian massacre at a Russian airport - committed by a Russian terrorist cell - which precedes a Russian-led attack against North America, involving the bombing, invasion, and occupation of the East Coast. When Modern Warfare 2 first launched in back 2009, Activision only released the title on PC, with an alternate edition that omitted the aforementioned airport sequence in its entirety.

Platinum Games' 'Sol Cresta' might be an April Fools prank, but I still want it

Today was the day that Platinum Games was expected to drop the final reveal of the fabled "Platinum4," a quartet of announcements about the Bayonetta developer's future plans. Early this morning, Platinum made good on its word, with a new trailer for shmup sequel Sol Cresta.

As showcased in the trailer below, Sol Cresta is the long, long, loooong awaited collaboration between Platinum Games and retro-enthusiasts Hamster Corporation, who have come together to develop and release a brand new sequel to 1980 coin-op Moon Cresta and its 1985 sequel, Terra Cresta.

Specifically renown for their mind-blowing "docking" mechanics, the Cresta titles were a big hit in the arcades and on home computers, and this franchise is finally ready to blast a whole new universe of video game fans into the next generation and beyond.

Puyo Puyo is invading Phantasy Star Online 2 and it gives me life

Finally! The time has come where we don't miss out on those awesome Phantasy Star Online 2 collaborations. After posting them for many, many years and feeling an intense sense of FOMO, the collabs are coming westward thanks to the impending release of the Xbox One edition.

Sega really wants folks to use the group chat functionality in the current PSO 2 Xbox One open beta, so to spur that use the publisher is allowing players to earn a unique Mag Evolution device (Mags are like little stat-increasing pets in the world of PSO) that triggers a Puyo Puyo transformation: brilliant.

This one is actually pretty easy to snag as all you need to do is "use group chat [friend list chatting] to communicate with other arks," and will run from today through April 14. Rewards will be doled out "after the scheduled maintenance on April 28," as is customary for the beta rewards so far. You'll find it at your Visiphone under "campaign items."

To be clear, there's only one device reward and it is always green: no need to track down anything else, completionists!

NBA 2K20 Tournament Features Real Players Competing For Coronavirus Relief

The NBA season has been indefinitely postponed because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which was infected multiple players, but superstars are making the most of their time off with an NBA 2K20 charity tournament.

Airing on ESPN on April 3, the NBA 2K Players Tournament features 16 NBA players competing in head-to-head brackets for the chance to be crowned champion. Participants include Kevin Durant, Andre Drummond, DeMarcus Cousins, and Trae Young, and their seeds in the tournament were determined based on their player-ratings in the game itself.

Players select eight teams to play with during the tournament and are allowed to use each only once. That means mastering multiple squads and not only passing the ball to your in-game counterpart.

Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord has crushed many crash bugs

A phalanx of heavily-armed bug fixes cut down a number of crashes in a new Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord patch released last night. The sandbox medieval warfare multi-hyphenate RPG entered early access on Monday but some players got off to a bumpy start. Enter this patch at 9pm, with fixes for over 18 crashes and soft-locks as well as some ‘infinite loading’ problems. I am so glad to see TaleWorlds don’t mention anything about playing Bannerlord as a baby and I pray to god that this will remain in the game forever.

Game Infarcer 2020 Edition – Goose Of Tsushima

Instead of trying to trick you with pretend news, we here at Game Informer use April Fools' Day as an opportunity to share obviously and admittedly false stories through our annual Game Infarcer feature. Our 2020 edition is filled with a new array of completely made-up content, including a gorgeous Goose of Tsushima cover illustration by Zander Cannon

You can read the full feature below! Though I should note: That fake quote about E3 went to print after many major companies had dropped out, but before the event was canceled entirely. Anyway, if you want even more irreverent and totally fabricated gaming journalism, you can also read the previous editions of Game Infarcer from 20192018, 2017, and 2016.

Tekken Boss Blasts Anti-Video Games Law by Japanese Prefecture That Feels Like an April Fools Joke

Today is April 1, which means that we can expect a lot of April Fools jokes and pranks all over the internet, and yet we see things that should be jokes but are indeed disturbingly real.

Today a new ordinance pushed by the prefectural assembly of Kagawa Prefecture, in the Japanese island of Shikoku, went into effect, and it definitely could qualify as a great April Fools prank. Only, it isn’t.

The “Net Game Addiction Measures Ordinance” was passed on April 18 and forbids minors under 18 years of age from playing games more than 60 minutes a day, with the limit increased to 90 minutes in the Holidays.

On top of that, students up to junior high school cannot use their smartphones after 9:00 pm, while older students (but still under 18) have that limit increased to 10:00 pm.

While the title of the ordinance mentions “net games,” it actually applies to all internet and computer games played at home and in public, including home and portable console games, online games, and arcades.

Reacting to the ordinance today is (among others) Tekken series producer and director Katsuhiro Harada, who took to Twitter to blast the regulatory action.

How the Xbox Kinect Found New Life Among Ghost Hunters

This article is part of a new initiative on IGN where we spend a whole month exploring topics we find interesting in the world of video games (and hope you will, too!). April is our Urban Legends month, when we'll take a look at the bizarre, eerie, untold, and otherwise unexplained phenomena within the gaming community.

[poilib element="accentDivider"]

If there’s a video game peripheral heaven, the Xbox Kinect is surely there, after a life short-lived and mourned by few.  However - fitting for a peripheral which seemed to be dying right from the start - the afterlife has given the Kinect a second chance.

These days, gamers aren’t buying Kinects, but ghost hunters are.

Ninjala shows off its colourful, Splatoon-spirited action

GungHo Online Entertainment has released a lengthy gameplay video for its upcoming multiplayer gum-'em-up Ninjala, which arrives on Nintendo Switch in May. The clip sees eight wacky characters fighting it out in Last Person Standing action.

Ninjala blends over-the-top, dynamic arena fighting action with melee combat and amusing "ninja skills", such as the ability to disguise oneself as a piece of scenery to enable sneak attacks. Ninjala emphasises verticality in its gameplay, with its roster equipping rooftop-running parkour skills to traverse the landscape. We also get to see some of the fun character designs players will be able to construct with the game's deep customisation options.

Gloomhaven sequel hits Kickstarter funding goal in about ten minutes

You know Gloomhaven, right? It's the number one board game in the world according to BoardGameGeek, it's got a Steam Early Access game, and it's absolutely huge. It's so large, even though it released about three years ago, some groups have not finished it. Despite the fact that it contains hundreds of hours of game that can last years, it's getting a sequel called Frosthaven and that sequel went up on Kickstarter yesterday.

It had a funding goal of a modest half million dollars, which it crushed about ten minutes after the campaign launched. It reached one million in pledges in under an hour. At the time of this writing, not even 24 hours from launch, it has cracked five million. This thing is a phenomenon.

Apart from being a financial success, it sounds like an improvement on the original game in a lot of ways. Some of my complaints about Gloomhaven had to do with the stuff between games, where character retirements and town progression were unsatisfying, and both of those are getting revamped, while the core gameplay of picking two cards to perform actions will remain untouched.

One neat thing the Kickstarter campaign is doing is a daily puzzle. The one we've seen so far is a three-round one-on-one against a particularly tough enemy. It's a cool way to introduce the new character classes and keep people engaged throughout. I've already got my pledge in for this beast, but I'll be checking back daily on it to solve the puzzle anyway.

Sometimes, things just work out in Zelda: Breath of the Wild

As I've said many times, there are different flavors of Zelda videos.

Sometimes I'm in the mood for a full-on action clip, which I've dubbed "stunt videos." On other occasions, I want to see something no one has seen before, and be on the cusp of a brand new discovery. This video is neither of those things. But it's totally the video we need right now.

Reddit user link_the_champion (good name) was strolling across Hyrule one day and came across a Guardian, as one does in Zelda: Breath of the Wild. But just as they were going to be pelted by a laser, a blue Chuchu rose up from underneath the ground and saved them, getting blown up in the process.

Was the Chuchu benevolent? We'll never know for sure. But its timing is impeccable!

Someone created an Animal Crossing: New Horizons storefront that takes real money

Welp, the Animal Crossing custom design system is pretty limitless, but this probably isn't what Nintendo intended!

As a reminder, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been out for a short while, which means thousands of fans have come up with ways to either break it or stretch the limits of what the game can do: the human spirit really is indomitable, isn't it?

This time a player in China has taken it upon themselves to create their own storefront. But not the cute "stop and shop" concept that's been sweeping the AC community: rather, a real-life money shop. Stay with me here. According to industry analyst Daniel Ahmad, a Chinese AC player actually created their own shop that has WeChat Pay and AliPay (Alibaba) QR codes displayed on the ground. If users were to scan those codes, they'd be able to securely send that player real money for their designs.

Clearly this is likely a breach of the spirit of the game from Nintendo's point of view, but a digital artist setting up shop inside of a popular fake world is crazy smart when you think about it.
