With the tagline "From Russia with love," Netflix's teaser for Stranger Things' upcoming fourth season gives fans a reveal that will warm their hearts. We don't know exactly where this season is going yet, but part of it will be set outside of Hawkins, Indiana. We expect to return to Hawkins to catch up with the kids, but it looks like we'll be spending some time in Russia as well. There's also that pesky Upside Down that will probably become a factor again. The teaser sadly doesn't give us the one thing we want most: a start date.

4 years 2 months ago

Click to watch embedded media

Square Enix today released the opening cinematic for Final Fantasy VII Remake. This gorgeous sequence takes you on a tour of Midgar and also gives you an idea of how the narrative is going to kick off. Final Fantasy VII Remake is right around the corner with an April 10 release date exclusively for PlayStation 4.

Square Enix is expanding greatly on the content from the original 1997 PlayStation game, and is turning Final Fantasy VII into a series of games. This first game is mostly contained within Midgar, and while the main story beats will likely be the same, Square is expanding on them and will give fans a deeper look at this world. We don't know how many games Square is planning or what the release schedule will be like, but there's a chance we'll be playing Final Fantasy VII for years to come.

Are you excited for this remake? Let us know in the comments section below.

Welcome to the newest episode of The Game Informer Show aka the Leocast! This week, Leo Vader takes the reins and is joined by Jeff Cork, Joe Juba, and I to chat about why the new third-person shooter Outriders had them buzzing after visiting People Can Fly's studio in Poland.

After dissecting Outrider's gaming goodness, we examine the latest Anthem news out of Bioware and discuss if it can become the game we were all hoping it would with the studio going dark to create a clearer vision of the sci-fi shooter.

Wrapping up the show, we rope Dan Tack into the madness and tackle a huge community email section that had us in stitches and questioning our sanity all the way through.

Thanks for listening! Please make sure to leave feedback below, share the episode if you enjoyed it, and follow @therealandymc, @leovader, or me at @Studnik76 to let us know what you think.

Blazing A New Trail – An Exclusive Look At Outriders

4 years 2 months ago

Everything I've ever loved is gone.

Family. Friends. Home. It’s all back on a planet that can no longer sustain human life, a planet that we lost contact with 15 years ago. Earth is a distant memory, but there is hope: Our ship orbits Enoch, a planet that could give the 500 thousand souls on the S.S. Flores a chance at redemption. Perhaps this time we won’t fail.

The probes have given us cause for celebration: Enoch is a rare breed of “Goldilocks” planets, which is neither too hot nor too cold to sustain human life, with a breathable atmosphere and gravitational pull that won’t instantly crush us. Before we can colonize this rich new home, there’s one final formality: The Outriders have to make a quick landfall and ensure that it is, indeed, the paradise scientists have promised us all. What could possibly go wrong?

Introducing Prince Of Persia: The Dagger Of Time, A VR Escape Room

4 years 2 months ago

This isn't the new Prince of Persia game you were hoping for, but at least Ubisoft is still dreaming up new adventures in this popular universe. Prince of Persia: The Dagger of Time is a virtual reality escape room designed for teams of up to four players. Developer Ubisoft Düsseldorf hopes to have this Sands of Time-based experience out in the wild this spring.

Your goal as a team is to escape the Fortress of Time wielding the magical dagger of note to solve puzzles, some requiring you to rewind time, others pushing you to speed it up, and you may event need to stop it completely. You'll also need to keep an eye on Kaileena, the Empress of Time, and her army of sand monsters. Using room-scale VR, you'll need your team to move around the room to explore and solve puzzles.

Developer Ubisoft Düsseldorf is no stranger to VR escape rooms, having already made two others: Assassin's Creed: Medusa's Gate and Assassin's Creed: Escape the Lost Pyramid.

Pokémon Home Now Live, Gives You Free Gen 1 Starter And Pikachu To Add To Your Collection

4 years 2 months ago

Since the beginning of the franchise, Game Freak has expressed a desire for the ability to bring your Pokémon forward into future games. While that process has not been without its hiccups and headaches, apps like the Poké Transporter and the Pokémon Bank for 3DS were designed with that function in mind. Now, Switch users finally have a way to bring creatures forward into Sword & Shield, as well as future mainline Pokémon RPGs through Pokémon Home, which is now available.

Pokémon Home links to Pokémon Bank to allow you to carry forward stored creatures into current games. While a free version exists, players who are serious about bringing their Pocket Monsters forward are probably going to want to look at the $15.99/year (or $2.99/month if you just want to do this once) Premium plan, which bumps your storage capacity up from 30 Pokémon to 6,000, as well as higher capacity in Wonder Box and GTS.

Activision Blizzard Removes Games From GeForce Now

4 years 2 months ago

Nvidia's GeForce Now streaming service exited beta last week with hundreds of games, but users will find some of the titles they may have been playing have suddenly been removed. Activision Blizzard abruptly removed all of its games (like Overwatch and World of Warcraft) from the service yesterday with no real explanation.

The news comes from a Nvidia representative in GeForce Now's official forum. The representative said wrote, "Per their request, please be advised Activision Blizzard games will be removed from the service. While unfortunate, we hope to work together with Activision Blizzard to reenable these games and more in the future."

In the same post, Nvidia says that over 1,500 games are being on-boarded and will be added to the service in the future. If you purchased the Activision Blizzard games, you can still play them, just not through GeForce Now.

This shift away from GeForce Now comes on the heels of Activision Blizzard inking a deal with Google to exclusively stream esports matches for Overwatch League and Call of Duty League. We've reached out to Activision Blizzard for a statement on GeForce Now.

Stardew Valley Spinoff Games Are In Development

4 years 2 months ago

The immensely popular farming game Stardew Valley will be revisited in the future through two new games, but neither are what you would expect. The news comes from Stardew Valley's creator Eric Barone while answering a Twitter question about the future of the game's universe.

When asked if new games would be on the way, Barone replied "I'm actually working on a couple of new projects. One takes place in the world of Stardew Valley, but is not a farming game. The other, I'm not 100 percent sure about the world yet, but it will tie into Stardew Valley in some way."

When the news began to spread across social media and into news stories like the one you are reading now, Barone added "all I ask is please don't get too hyped at this stage. I want to avoid too much hype or speculation. I'd like to just make whatever game comes naturally to me without too much pressure or expectation."

The big takeaway from Barone's response is that Stardew Valley will live on, but will expand beyond the farm. We can't wait to see what's in the pipeline, but until these projects are revealed, we have fields to tend to.

Cover Reveal – Outriders

4 years 2 months ago

People Can Fly is nothing if not consistent. Since it was founded back in 2002, the Polish studio has focused primarily on the shooter genre, starting with Painkiller. Over the years, they’ve adjusted and made more technically sophisticated games, such as Bulletstorm and Gears of War: Judgment. Their latest project, Outriders, is its most expansive release yet, taking a solid shooter framework and adding deep RPG systems, an engaging storyline, and loads of powerful (and occasionally bizarre) loot. We visited the Warsaw studio and got hours of hands-on time with Outriders, and we also got to know some of the people behind the game. There’s a lot to talk about, and it’s all in the next issue of Game Informer Magazine.

This April's PUBG Gobal Series Event In Berlin Has Been Postponed Due To The Coronavirus Outbreak

4 years 2 months ago

Due to health concerns linked to the spreading coronavirus, PUBG Corporation today announced the postponement of this April's PUBG Global Series event in Berlin. PUBG Corporation still plans on running all four of its Global Series events this year, but there may be some delays due to the virus, and perhaps even venue changes. A PUBG Corporation representative told Game Informer that the team is actively working on a replacement event.

PUBG Corporation offered an official statement on the situation:

PUBG Corporation is actively monitoring the spread of the latest coronavirus, which was recently declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization.

With the health and safety of our players, employees, and fans as our top priorities, we've made the difficult decision to postpone April's PGS: Berlin event. The dates and times of regional qualifiers may also be subject to change. The plan to host four PUBG global esports events in 2020 remains unchanged, and we are actively exploring options for when a replacement event can be held.

We will provide updates once we have a better understanding of the best options for esports fans, players, and staff. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this situation.

BioWare Commits To 'Longer-Term Redesign' Of Anthem

4 years 2 months ago

One of the biggest flops of 2019 was BioWare's living sci-fi game Anthem. While it received middling review scores based on the content available at launch, it quickly became apparent the development team did not have sufficient long-term content or gameplay-evolution plans in place to sustain a dedicated community the way a living game needs to in the current landscape. Many Anthem players have felt abandoned by the development team's lack of meaningful new content in the year since its launch. Today, BioWare general manager Casey Hudson announced plans for the future of Anthem.

In a post on the BioWare Blog, Hudson says the last year has seen the team focused on improving "stability, performance and general quality of life while delivering three seasons of new content and features." Many players have been dissatisfied with not only the quantity of content released by BioWare, but the pace at which is has come to the game as well. In the post, Hudson says he understands that players yearn for "a more satisfying loot experience, better long-term progression and a more fulfilling end game."

New Trailer For Bloodroots Reveals A February 28 Release Date

4 years 2 months ago

Click to watch embedded media

In Paper Cult's Bloodroots, you can knock all of the blood out of someone's body with one good whack of a carrot. Need I say more? This wildly violent action game is releasing on Switch, PlayStation 4, and the Epic Games Store on February 28.

Bloodroots follows the exploits of Mr. Wolf, a warrior who is defeated, left for dead, and then goes on a  quest of revenge against the people that took him down. Set in the Weird West, your bid for justice unfolds through combos that can be dealt from hatchets and even a carrot. yes, an ordinary carrot. You can also attach giant fish to the heads of enemies to blind them. The world features plenty of interaction for both combat and traversal. You'll come across a giant wind-up shoe that you can use to bounce around and smash enemies. It looks like good, bloody fun.

According to an official press release from Paper Cult, the development team brought in Nick Suttner (of Guacamelee 2 and Celeste fame) to "help flesh out and write the game's characters and dialogues."

Bloodroots is Paper Cult's second game. The first was 2017's Fat Mask, an arcade puzzle brawler for one to four players that oddly looks like a mix of Towerfall and Tetris.

First Details For Netflix's Resident Evil Series Leak Online

4 years 2 months ago

Netflix's upcoming Resident Evil streaming series doesn't take place where you think it would. Raccoon City is not mentioned in an official description that was accidentally posted to Netflix's media center before being quickly removed (and archived on the WaybackMachine). While it doesn't sound like we'll see an origin story in a creepy, old mansion, there's a good reason why this show isn't set in the series' familiar location. The official synopsis reads:

The town of Clearfield, MD has long stood in the shadow of three seemingly unrelated behemoths – the Umbrella Corporation, the decommissioned Greenwood Asylum, and Washington, D.C. Today, 26 years after the discovery of the T-Virus, secrets held by the three will start to be revealed at the first signs of outbreak.

Given that decades have gone by since the discovery of the virus and the events of this series, there's a chance Netflix is creating this show as a sequel to all of the Resident Evil games that came before it. The first Resident Evil game launched on PlayStation in 1996, and the show appears to be exploring new territory not seen in any of the games. Resident Evil is no stranger to living outside of video games, and has enjoyed plenty of success as movies, both live action and animated.

What do you hope to see from this series? Let us know in the comments section below.

The Outer Worlds Switch Port Delayed Due To Coronavirus

4 years 2 months ago

Virtuous, the team handling the Switch port of The Outer Worlds, has studios located in Chengdu and Xi'an, China, and those offices have been closed during the Coronavirus outbreak and a mandatory quarantine. Publisher Private Division took to Twitter to say that "the team at Virtuous is ok," but they'll need additional time to finish the Switch port, which will now be releasing as a physical version on a cartridge (not just a download code in the box).

The Outer Worlds was slated to release on Switch on March 6. Private Division added that it is now "working with the team to determine an updated development timeline, and will share more regarding a new launch date shortly."

Virtuous employs over 1,600 people in 11 offices around the world, and recently supported Respawn Entertainment in development of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and also assisted with Frontier Developments' Planet Zoo.
