Drawn to Life: Two Realms Coming to PC, Switch, and Mobile in December

3 years 5 months ago

Drawn to Life: Two Realms will be coming to PC, Nintendo Switch, and mobile device on Dec. 7, publisher 505 Games and developer Digital Continue announced today.

The game will take place several years after the end of the 2009 Nintendo DS title Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter and features a new gameplay mechanic that allows players to place “tangible toys” around the level to navigate around obstacles and platforms.

Players will still be able to draw their own main character and customize with the new Creation Tool offering “millions of colors, unique stickers, templates, new hero animations, and a mix and match look.”

The latest title in the 13-year-old franchise will be handled by “many” of the original developers including the original franchise composer with 50 new music tracks, a 2D world from the original sprite artist, and story by the executive producer of the first two games.

“We’re unearthing the beloved and groundbreaking Drawn to Life franchise with a new version created for a new generation of gamers and platforms,” said 505 Games president Neil Ralley in a press release. “It’s been over a decade since the previous title so we can’t wait for new players and long-time fans to get their hands on Drawn to Life: Two Realms just in time for the holidays – the perfect opportunity for older fans with families to share an old favourite with their kids.”

Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter will launch on Steam, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android on Dec. 7. It will only be available digitally and cost $9.99 for Switch and PC, while mobile will cost $4.99.

EA Reveals Full PS5, Xbox Series X Upgrade Plan

3 years 5 months ago
The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are only a week away from launch and EA has revealed its plans for bringing its newest games to next-gen systems. Some titles, like Madden NFL 21 and FIFA will receive full next-gen upgrades, while others will be backward compatible with some enhancements. In a new blog post, EA has broken down which games are receiving next-gen upgrades and which games will be backward compatible. This being next-gen it’s never simple and some titles will receive some extra features but not full upgrades. Some enhancements are also not uniform either. Star Wars: Squadrons will receive new FPS modes on the Xbox Series X|S, but only improved lighting effects on PS5. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/15/star-wars-squadrons-official-trailer"] Here’s EA’s full rundown of next-gen plans for its current games:

EA Sports Madden NFL 21 and FIFA 21

Madden 21 and FIFA 21 will be backward compatible on next-gen systems if you already own the PS4 or Xbox One/X/S version of either game. On December 4, existing owners will be able to redeem a free next-gen upgrade for Madden 21 and FIFA 21 for either the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. The upgrade will be available until NFL 22 and FIFA 22 are released next year. Online content such as Ultimate Team, The Yard, Franchise modes, and Volta Football will also transfer between generations.

Star Wars: Squadrons

Star Wars: Squadrons will receive a new framerate upgrade for Xbox Series X|S players where they can choose to focus either on better visuals or better framerate. Squadrons can run at 1440p at 60 FPS on Xbox Series S and up to 2160p at 60 FPS on the Series X. In performance mode, players can achieve 1440p at 120 FPS on Series S and 2160p at 120 FPS on Series X while sacrificing some of the better lighting models and improved visuals. On PlayStation 5, EA says Squadrons will run with improved lighting and the same resolution and framerate as on the PlayStation 4 Pro.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater gets a big update that makes it way more replayable

3 years 5 months ago

I blazed through Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 back in September (which [counts on fingers] was 34 years ago now) and quickly found myself out of stuff to do. That's because the original games let you play through the tours with each individual skater. The remake, however, aggregates all the goals so that they only need to be accomplished once across the whole roster of skaters.

That's changing tomorrow. Developer Vicarious Visions is adding a Solo Tours mode where goal and medal progress resets for each skater. Now the full game can be played over and over again. The original version is splintering off to something called "Crew Tours" where players can complete all the game's objectives across as many skaters as they want.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 was already an incredibly challenging and time-consuming completion, but it's going to get significantly tougher. This update also adds more than 100 challenges across 10 challenge sets. They touch on all corners of the game -- solo play, multiplayer, create-a-park, comboing, etc -- and should keep the hardcore community grinding even longer. On the one hand, it'll be good for stocking up on XP and cash; on the other, knocking everything out is even more intimidating now.

Lastly, THPS is getting some create-a-skater items that are Crash Bandicoot-themed. A new deck, three hats, and nine shirts are up for grabs as part of the free update. Some of the stuff is shown off in the video above.

Warframe Gets The Next-Gen Treatment On Xbox Series X And PlayStation 5

3 years 5 months ago

Warframe is making the jump to next-gen on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Next-gen versions of the free-to-play shooter can run in 4k resolution and 60 fps, with massively reduced load times.

Of course, if you're not making the switch to next-gen hardware right away, that's okay too — cross generation play is available, meaning it's totally fine to team up with PS4 squadmates on your PS5. While we reviewed Warframe all the way back in 2013, the game has changed dramatically since then and is almost unrecognizable from its past incarnation.

Over the years, the game has transitioned to embrace giant open-world areas along with many other game as a service trappings that incentivize players to come back for every content drop, big and small. Warframe certainly isn't the only free-to-play title to have undergone massive changes for the better since launch, check out online content director Joe Juba's thoughts on the current state of F2P titles in this piece here.

An Enhanced Renderer tunes up dynamic lighting options for Warframe, so things will look a lot prettier as you crawl through derelict ships or ravaged planetary galaxyscapes.

What if BioWare announced Mass Effect 5 this weekend?

3 years 5 months ago

Mass Effect 3's real Shepard.

N7 Day, or Mass Effect day as you might know it, is right around the corner. This Saturday, a couple of BioWare devs and a load of the original trilogy’s voice cast are holding a “very special” panel to celebrate. Now, there are suspicions and whisperings of what may or may not be said at this panel – it would be baffling if all this fanfare wasn’t to reveal the long-rumoured remasters of Commander Shepard’s adventures. But what if! What if they threw a complete curveball and announced a fifth Mass Effect game?

New Monster Hunter Rise Gameplay Shows off an Aknosom Fight & More

3 years 5 months ago

Capcom has released a new video to its Japanese YouTune channel that shows off about eight minutes of brand-new gameplay for Monster Hunter Rise, the latest mainline entry in the long-running action-RPG series.

The gameplay starts by showing off a Hunter exploring one of the game’s locales alongside their trustworthy companions, a Palamute and a Palico. You can see them using the Palamute to get across wide areas quickly, and you can use certain items while riding on top of it, such as a potion or a Whetstone.

Eventually, the player confronts one of the new monsters in the game, the fearsome Aknosom. This huge bird Wyvern greets the player with a huge fireball to the face, as you can see around the 4:40 mark.

We don’t get to see the hunter actually take down the Aknosom, as it escapes once it takes enough damage, but you can see some slick combat featuring the Great Sword and the Wirebug mechanic.

Here’s the video:

Epic Games Store Offers Dungeons 3 Free for Limited Time

3 years 5 months ago

The Epic Games Store continues to give away at least one free PC game from its marketplace and dedicated launcher each week with Dungeons 3 free this week.

The dungeon building and real-time strategy game can be claimed from the Epic Games Store for free beginning today until Thursday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. ET.

The game also has seven pieces of downloadable content for sale on the store priced between $1.99-$3.99, or bought all together for $11.99. The sale ends on Dec. 3.

Epic Games originally announced last week that this week’s free game would be real-time strategy game Wargame: Red Dragon, but changed it to Dungeons 3 late last week. The company has changed its free offerings between announcement and scheduled date in the past, but no reason was given for this change.

The company also announced the free PC game for next week: The Textorcist: The Story of Ray Bibbia. The game is a mix of a bullet hell shooter and typing game in the vein of The Typing of the Dead.

“In order to defeat the forces of evil, learn how to type your exorcisms with your keyboard or with your joypad WHILE dodging tons of bullets, dealing with puddles of barf, defusing bombs, singing at the mic of a metal show and more during intense Boss Battles: easier said than done,” according to the game’s description.

Mileena Mortal Kombat 11 Gameplay Trailer Shows off Her Brutality

3 years 5 months ago

Earlier this morning, the official Mortal Kombat YouTube channel released the first gameplay trailer featuring the franchise veteran, Mileena, in action. The clone of Kitana appears to be just as vicious and sadistic as ever with an equally creepy voice.

The trailer begins with Mileena twisting one of her sai into the eye of an enemy before being interrupted by Kitana. Then the two start going at it and this is the first time we get an extended look at Mileena’s moveset in Mortal Kombat 11.

Of course, her attacks consist of mainly stabs and slashes with her sai along with flips and acrobatic kicks. That might not sound especially brutal for Mortal Kombat, but rest assured, it gets there.

Pretty early on we see Mileena perform a move on Kitana where she uses a sai to stab the opponent in the eye. Then she follows it up with a kick to send them flying considerably far across the stage. It appears unlikely that you could get many follow-ups off of this move.

Another exceptionally brutal move features Mileena taking off her face covering for a bit to lick her enemies. Gross, but not that violent until she immediately bites their neck after and takes out a chunk of flesh at the same time.

One of the more visually impressive moves shown off in the gameplay trailer features Mileena sliding and taking out the feet of an opponent before jumping on them and stabbing them with her sai multiple times.

She then slams their head into the ground and forces them to teleport to the top of the screen. The enemy then falls to the ground and receives two more sai to the head.

Xbox Series X and PS5 will be (very briefly) back in stock at Walmart on launch day

3 years 5 months ago

Is it better to know precisely when to show up for a pre-order, or do you prefer having little to no notice before they go live, forcing everyone to uniformly scramble? If you've tried to get your hands on an Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5 over the past couple of months, I'm sure you have a stance on this topic.

Walmart will have another batch of consoles in stock on their respective launch days: November 10 (Xbox Series X) and November 12 (PS5). You'll need to try your luck online again with the internet at large, though – there aren't going to be any in-store launch-day orders due to, well, you know.

These are the specific start times. (Don't tell the bots.)

Xbox Series X ($499) and Xbox Series S ($299)

PlayStation 5 ($499) and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition ($399)

Remember when Walmart went rogue and kicked off PS5 pre-orders early? It's tough to forget!

I'm curious to see how this shopping experience compares. It's also worth reminding that the cheaper PS5 Digital Edition will probably be much trickier to secure than the model with a disc drive.

In retrospect, I almost miss waiting in lines. Almost.

Genshin Impact Gets New Trailer Introducing New Character Childe

3 years 5 months ago

Today MiHoYo released a new trailer of its popular action RPG Genshin Impact focusing on a new character.

The character in question is the recently-revealed Childe, and apparently he’s a bit of a bad boy, at least on the surface.

You can check him out below.

Here’s what MiHoYo introduces Childe, also called “Tartaglia.”

“In the eyes of the Fatui Agent Javert, the Eleven Harbingers have always been figures of lofty status. Javert only remembers one time he was admonished by Sandrone, back when he was just a new recruit. But today, Javert has suddenly been sought out by Childe with orders to accompany him to collect a certain debt. Javert is caught off guard, not sure what to expect…”

Whoops! Bethesda boss' T-shirt seems to validate leaked Starfield screenshots from earlier in the year

3 years 5 months ago

Here's the dilemma: your boss is getting a kind of lifetime achievement award and you've been asked to contribute to a video montage bigging them up. Shouldn't be hard. But what do you wear? That's the issue.

Go smart? No, too formal, these are video games we're talking about. But you want to keep some kind of professionalism about you. You are the managing director of Bethesda Game Studios after all.

Got it! You'll go on-brand. You've got that T-shirt, remember? New owner Microsoft will love it - that Phil Spencer, he's all about a well-placed tee. It's a win-win. You can look professional while promoting your new game Starfield at the same time. Bin-go. What could possibly go wrong?

Capcom were hacked, but customer info seems safe

3 years 5 months ago

A villainous fight in a Street Fighter V screenshot.

The makers of Street Fighter and Resident Evil have reported that a ne’er-do-well got access to their computer systems this week. That’s bad. Luckily for us, they say they’ve found no hint that the unknown baddie got into customer data. That’s good. Though I’ll be changing the password of any Capcom account I have, just in case. And this happening so soon after hackers reportedly leaked Watch Dogs: Legion’s source code does make me wonder if a dramatic twist will follow.

A big warrior in bone armour tucking into a massive plate of fish in Monster Hunter World

Welcome again, dear listener, to the Electronic Wireless Show, the best and most solidly on-topic PC gaming podcast the world has ever seen. This week, we invite you to be our guest, take a seat at our dinner table, and prepare for a hearty helping of chat. About food. Because this week the topic is all the best food in games, you see. I hope I laboured that point enough.

We cover all manner of games, with only a brief mention of Skyrim, and a more extended chat about Final Fantasy XV and Monster Hunter. But to be honest we spend most of our time talking about actual food. Conversational diversions this week include how dead bodies are transported around cruise ships, and our death row meals. Death comes up a lot, actually. It gets kind of dark. But in a fun way!

Review: Borderlands 3: Designer's Cut

So Borderlands 3 is getting more DLC. Who could have guessed!

Operating in a sort of middle-ground between a full live-service game and a complete looter shooter, Borderlands 3 gave us four premium DLC packs that each focused on a new zone and storyline. But for the second season pass (which you can buy right after second breakfast), they're doing things a little differently.

So far, a little too differently.

After the final climax of the game, you’ll be shunted back into the open world of London with a surprisingly small number of material differences despite the fact that you’ve #resisted the oppressive powers that be. Life Is Strange Studio Has Six Games Currently In Development

3 years 5 months ago

DONTNOD, the studio behind Life is Strange, is keeping very busy as the next generation of gaming looms ahead. With Tell Me Why having been the most recent game from the team to make its debut, even more episodic adventures await because the DONTNOD CEO has confirmed that the team has a whopping six games currently in development.

DONTNOD's upcoming Twin Mirror game makes its debut this December, but there is more on the way. CEO Oska Guilbert confirmed future goals when talking about the previous success seen with the Life is Strange franchise, Remember Me, and Vampyr.

While the CEO didn't detail what those mysterious new games will have to offer, he does promise that each adventure will be increasingly varied from the studio's previous library as to "not put all our eggs in one basket."

This team's ability to craft an incredible narrative in an episodic way is reminiscent of how Telltale Games approaches gameplay. Its unique style towards creating intriguing characters interwoven within an intricate storyline is impressive, and the team sure isn't afraid to pull on those feels either (looking at you, Life is Strange).

Fortnite Could Be Playable on iOS Again Through Nvidia GeForce Now

3 years 5 months ago
Fortnite could be playable again on iOS through a reported upcoming version of cloud streaming service, Nvidia GeForce Now, which would allow Epic Games to bypass the iOS App Store on iPhones. Nvidia GeForce Now is a cloud streaming service that allows users to play their games wherever they have internet access. It's already available on PC, Android, and Mac. According to the BBC, a new version that runs on the Safari browser is expected to launch before the winter holidays, which could offer an avenue for iPhone users to play Fortnite on their phones once again. Nvidia has yet to comment on the report. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/08/13/fortnite-1984-apple-parody-video-short"] Because Nvidia GeForce Now would go through Apple's web browser, Safari, instead of through its iOS App Store, the 30% commission cut Apple charges for software on its App Store would be a moot point. It's this 30% commission cut that saw Epic and Apple clash over the iOS version of Fortnite to begin with. Epic decided to bypass this cut by altering the price of Fortnite V-Bucks in a new direct payment system in response to Apple's "exorbitant" App Store fees earlier this year. This eventually turned into a legal battle that later made its way in-game as an event for all players. As of today, Fortnite is not available on iOS.

Monster Hunter World: Iceborne will unlock 'virtually all event quests' in early December

3 years 5 months ago

Fatalis may be behind us – well, some of us – but Capcom isn't done updating Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. The next drop is coming in "early December," and it'll permanently open up "virtually all" event quests. You won't need to worry as much about schedules and the simmering stress of missing out.

Once update 15.10 is released, there will be a two-week rotation for the Astera and Seliana Fests. Iceborne will also bounce back and forth between Kulve Taroth and Safi'jiiva every two weeks.

In arguably even sweeter news, the multiplayer-centric Safi'jiiva Siege is about to give solo players a fighting chance – the quest can be scaled down to one or two hunters once the update kicks in.
