The Medium Release Gets Delayed into 2021

3 years 4 months ago

The Medium, the next offering from developer Bloober Team, has been delayed, with a new release date slated for January of 2021.

In a post to the game’s official Twitter account made on Nov. 6, a statement by Bloober Team was released. It revealed that the upcoming horror game would no longer be releasing on Dec. 10 as planned. Instead, it is now planned to launch on Jan. 28, 2021.

“It wasn’t an easy choice to make, but one made due to the COVID-19 situation in Poland, as well as the current schedule of other games on the market,” the statement reads. “Bloober Team remains committed to delivering our biggest, most ambitious, fear-inducing experience to date.”

“The additional development time will allow us to add further polish, ensuring we deliver our innovative, genre-pushing vision of interactive psychological horror. Rest assured, the delay will not stop us sharing information with you, and you can expect us to unravel a few more layers of The Medium’s great mystery soon.”

A firefight in a warehouse.

Activision have revealed the content roadmap for Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone’s first season which kicks off on 10th December. It promises a slew of free weapons, maps, and modes for Blops as well as a mysterious “Classified Warzone Experience”. Although, it’s all largely non-specific info. Thankfully Gunfight mode is making a comeback, which I’m pretty darn excited for.

Destiny 2: Where Is Xur This Week? Exotic Items / Location Guide (Nov. 6-10)

3 years 4 months ago

This is it: the final days before the launch of Destiny 2's next expansion, Beyond Light. This weekend is the final visit by Xur before the new content launches on Tuesday, November 10. Head to Io, to Giant's Scar area, to find Xur this week. For his weapon, Xur is offering Fighting Lion. Hunters can pick up the Wormhusk Crown helmet; for Titans, there's the Actium War Rig chest armor; and for Warlocks, Xur has the Promethium Spur leg armor.

Xur Location

You'll find Xur in a cave at the north end of Giant's Scar on Io. Ride your sparrow north from the transmat zone and follow the wall of the area to find the opening, with Xur standing in the darkness on the right side of the cave.

Xur Exotic Items

For his final weapon before Beyond Light, Xur is offering Fighting Lion, a powerful breach-loading grenade launcher. With some skill, it can be a devastating weapon in both PvE and PvP, thanks to its bouncing grenades. But if you're not a fan of his other options, Xur also sells an Exotic engram that will decrypt into an Exotic you don't already own. He also has the Five of Swords challenge card, which lets you enable modifiers for Nightfall Strikes.

Miles Morales Hits Harder Than Peter Parker

3 years 4 months ago

Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which comes out next week for the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 5, once again puts players in the shoes of the friendliest neighborhood hero. But unlike the terrific 2018 game that laid the groundwork, there’s a different man behind the mask. If you couldn’t tell, it’s Miles Morales, and…

100 Thieves Is Joining Call Of Duty League As The Los Angeles Thieves

3 years 4 months ago

Call of Duty League in 2021 is poised for a hot season of eSports with teams like Chicago Huntsmen, Atlanta Faze, and Minnesota Rokkr. Well, now the 100 Thieves are coming to the Call of Duty League as the Los Angeles Thieves.

This is a stark contrast to a previous announcement in August 2019, where 100 Thieves CEO Matthew Haag, aka Nadeshot, took to Twitter to explain the situation between 100 Thieves and Call of Duty League. You can check that video out right here, but the expense of participating in the Call of Duty league was cited as one of the major issues as to why 100 Thieves did not participate in Call of Duty League in 2020.

Review: Fuser

3 years 4 months ago

Harmonix is a fascinating case study of a studio.

What was once the "Frequency/Amplitude" developer (this is how I'll always remember them) eventually made their mark on gaming with the Guitar Heroes series, followed by Rock Band. It's ironic that the folks that helped start the in-home guitar revolution ended up living longer than their creation, having been the steward of Rock Band for around 13 years now.

But Harmonix has always struggled to move out of the shadow of that success. Games like Fantasia: Music Evolved, while fun, never quite put them on the map. Before long the next Rock Band project would be announced and they'd fall back into a comfortable rhythm.

Fuser tries to do something interesting in that same rhythm space, but like several of their other ideas, it comes up short in many respects.

Take-Two boss thinks they charge “much less” than their games are worth

3 years 4 months ago

Some rich GTA guys huddled around some money.

2K’s Borderlands 3 still costs £50. Rockstar’s seven year-old GTA V costs £25. Just some food for thought. Anyways, Take-Two Interactive, the mega corporation who own the likes of 2K and Rockstar, think they’re charging players a lot less than their games are worth.

“We deliver the highest quality experiences in the business, and we charge much less for them than we believe they’re worth to consumers,” CEO Strauss Zelnick said in Take-Two’s earnings call yesterday.

The Medium Delayed to January 2021

3 years 4 months ago
The Medium has been delayed to January 28, 2021, due to COVID-19 and, most likely, Cyberpunk 2077's new release date. The game was originally due to be released on Xbox Series X, S and PC on December 10. Announced on Twitter, the delay is down to COVID-19 related production issues and "the current schedule of other titles on the market". That presumably means Cyberpunk 2077, which was itself delayed to December 10. It's not the first game to push back release due to CD Projekt Red's RPG - we've seen Everspace 2 and the Path of Exile end-game expansion shift dates explicitly because of Cyberpunk before this.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps just got even better with an update for Xbox Series X/S and PC

3 years 4 months ago

Moon Studios updated Ori and the Will of the Wisps today in preparation for the Xbox Series X/S, and I have a feeling it'll be just the kick in the pants some people needed to check out one of the year's best video games. The team calls it a "huge upgrade" for the new Xbox consoles. It's easy to see why.

Xbox Series X can pull off 4K HDR at 120FPS, and there's even a "6K Supersampled mode" that runs at 60FPS. On Xbox Series S, Will of the Wisps offers 1080p HDR at 120FPS and 4K at 60FPS. Beyond that boost, there are extra niceties like faster load times, high-fidelity audio, and "instant input response."

For anyone still struggling with lingering bugs or crashes, there are new performance and stability improvements "across all Xbox One SKUs," including extra polish "throughout the game experience."

Moon Studios updated the PC version of Will of the Wisps, too. You can dig into more graphics and audio modes (on both the super-high and low end) and benefit from some of those same stability fixes.

Funny enough, I just started playing it this week. The buzz was legit.

Dirt 5 will address PC performance and crashing issues in a patch next week

3 years 4 months ago

Dirt 5

hit the track yesterday but these race-y cars are dodging a few potholes, especially on PC. Codemasters published one batch of fixes on launch day and say they’re planning another patch to address issues that PC players are having with poor performance and crashing. The game, that is. If the cars crash, that’s on you. Well unless it’s due to frame stuttering, which I suppose is back in Codemasters’ court.

Sackboy: A Big Adventure will only include local co-op at launch

3 years 4 months ago

Online multiplayer support has been a thorny issue for some games recently, and the same can be said for Sackboy: A Big Adventure. While Sumo Digital is planning to support local and online co-op by the "end of 2020," at launch, only two- to four-player local co-op will be included in the PS4 and PS5 game.

"We've made the difficult decision to delay the full online multiplayer functionality within Sackboy: A Big Adventure," design director Ned Waterhouse said today on the PlayStation Blog. "The team have been working hard to ensure that online is the very best experience it can be for players and we just need a little more time to get it right so you can enjoy it to the fullest with your friends and family."

Whenever I hear that online multiplayer is coming later (in this case, it will be added in a free patch shortly after launch), I get a little nervous. When it does show up, will it be stable? Will it need further fixes? It's also worth noting that Sackboy will have "cross-generation multiplayer" on PS4 and PS5.

This delay doesn't change my outlook either way – I'm still looking forward to Sackboy and I still think platformer fans shouldn't sleep on it – but it is a bummer for anyone planning to go the online co-op route. I have an extra DualSense controller, so I'm good to go whenever I end up getting this game.

It's not even a budget concern as much as it is a time issue. I don't have enough!

Capcom lays out Monster Hunter World's future following final content update

3 years 4 months ago

Back in October, Capcom released Monster Hunter World's final content update, marking the end of two years' post-launch support, spanning both the core game and Iceborne expansion. Now, however, the developer has revealed what fans can expect from the game here on out.

In a new tweet on the official Monster Hunter Twitter feed, Capcom explained it will be launching a new Monster Hunter World: Iceborne update, known as version 15.10, in early December. This will adjust the Safi'jiiva Red Dragon Siege battle so it properly scales for one or two Hunters, but more notably sees Monster Hunter World's wealth of limited-time content being folded into the game on a more permanent basis.

Capcom says players will be able to access "virtually all" event quests, and that its seasonal Astera/Seliana Festivals will rotate every two weeks.

"We aren't masters of manipulation" says Apex Legends dev in response to battle pass grind complaints

3 years 4 months ago

Season 7 of Apex Legends landed earlier this week with a new map, legend and vehicles, and while most of the new content seems to be going down well with players, one thing definitely hasn't - and that's the updated battle pass system.

Respawn decided to overhaul the system in an effort to make it "more streamlined and rewarding" for Season 7, but players have expressed frustration with the pass, arguing the new system has turned the battle pass into a real grind. In the face of these complaints, it seems Respawn has tweaked the battle pass to make earning rewards a little easier - yet not everyone is satisfied.

As explained in the official Respawn blog post, Season 7 changed the challenge rewards from CP to stars. Each star is worth a tenth of a battle pass level, and once the meter is full it rewards a level and then resets. But players took issue with the sheer amount of XP required to earn a star, which initially needed 10k XP, meaning a battle pass level was worth 50k XP (without doing challenges). The loss of weekly recurring challenges for completing dailies has removed further chances to earn battle pass levels, and players say challenges are now much harder, with far worse rewards. Respawning five squadmates in Season 6 would have earned a battle pass level, for instance, but you now must respawn 15 teammates for two stars - effectively 20 per cent of a battle pass level.

GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 Next-Gen Backwards Compatibility Announced

3 years 4 months ago
Rockstar has announced that Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as numerous other older games from the developer, will be backwards compatible on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. The PS4 and Xbox One versions of GTA 5 and RDR 2 will be playable on the new next-gen consoles. Progress can be carried across, either through the use of cloud saves or manual transfer via USB storage or LAN/wi-fi transfer, for campaign save games. Progress in the Online components of GTA and RDR will be carried across via your Rockstar Social Club profile, provided you sign in with the same PSN/Xbox Live account you used previously. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/11/grand-theft-auto-5-enhanced-edition-trailer-ps5-reveal-event"] In addition to GTA 5 and RDR 2, the most recent version of L.A. Noire (as well as the VR Case Files on PS4) will also be backwards compatible on next-gen. Also detailed by Rockstar are the developer’s other games that will be available through backwards compatibility. On Xbox, these 360 and original Xbox games will be playable: Bully: Scholarship Edition, GTA 4, GTA: Episodes from Liberty City, GTA: San Andreas, Midnight Club: Los Angeles, Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis. As for PS5, these games available from the PS Store will carry over to PS5: Bully, GTA 3, GTA: San Andreas, GTA: Vice City, Manhunt, Max Payne, Red Dead Revolver, The Warriors. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/11/27/the-first-17-minutes-of-red-dead-online-gameplay"] Rockstar has yet to announce any form of free next-gen update for these games, and so while they will likely be enhanced due to the power of the next-gen consoles, none of these games will be optimized or upgraded for PS5 or Xbox Series X right now. We do know that there will be GTA 5: Enhanced Edition for next-gen, although it's unclear if this is a paid-for re-release or a free update.

How The Legend of Zelda helped define the combat of Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin

3 years 4 months ago

Any game releasing next week that isn't a part of the big, shiny, new console generation faces the possibility of being forgotten as the industry focuses on the next-gen tech that everyone will be talking about. It would almost seem foolish to position yourself against such gladiators. But the developers at Edelweiss think their game has what it takes to stand out. Against an onslaught of sequels about to hit game stores, they're pitching something unique with Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin.

While many games come and go from my mind, Sakuna's secured itself a nice, comfy spot in the back of my brain when I first saw a trailer for it back in 2018. I wasn't familiar with the developer's previous effort in Astebreed, but its enchanting scenery and rice farming footage made it stand out. At E3 2019, I got to try it out for myself and found it to be a charming action game with the makings of something spectacular.

At the very least, it's different from almost everything else on the market. As I found out in an interview with Edelweiss, that's one of the selling points they believe will keep it in the minds of gamers as it goes up against some heady competition.

How Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Performs On PS4

3 years 4 months ago

Insomniac’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is one of the most exciting and best-looking games on Sony’s new PlayStation 5 hardware, so if you’ve already secured yourself a new console, you should be excited to jump into this open-world thrill ride. However, what if you only have a PlayStation 4? How does Insomniac’s superhero adventure run on Sony’s last-gen hardware? Should you wait to play the game until after you upgrade your console or just dive in now on PS4? Those are the questions I set out to answer by playing Spider-Man: Miles Morales on a launch version of the PlayStation 4.

First of all, I won’t dive too much into what I think about Spider-Man: Miles Morales as a game. Overall, I had a ton of fun and really enjoyed cleaning up Manhattan as Miles. Insomniac established an incredibly solid open-world formula with its 2018 game and has smartly built off its systems with Miles’ game. I love the addition of Miles’ venom abilities, which are both fun to use and a nice way to disable bigger foes during combat. If you like stealth games, as I do, then you’ll probably also dig Miles’ camouflage skill, which lets him turn temporarily invisible to easily escape heated battles. For a more detailed breakdown of Insomniac’s systems, please read Andrew Reiner’s full review.

Dark fantasy King Arthur XCOM-alike reaches Kickstarter goal

3 years 4 months ago

I wasn't sure it would make it but King Arthur: Knight's Tale has reached its £115,000 Kickstarter goal, and with five days to spare.

King Arthur: Knight's Tale is the dark fantasy XCOM-alike I wrote about in October, made by Van Helsing developer NeoCore Games.

It's the one where you play as Mordred and have to stop Arthur's dark forces from ravaging the lands. Yes, the roles are reversed. You see, after you killed each other, in the legend as everyone knows it, Arthur somehow came back from the dead with an evil army, so the Lady of the Lake thought oh well let's get Mordred involved again too.

GTA V & Red Dead Redemption 2 Next-Gen Backward Compatibility Detailed by Rockstar

3 years 4 months ago

Rockstar Games has today announced that both Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V’s PS4 and Xbox One versions will be playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S via backward compatibility ahead of their staggered launches over the next couple of weeks.

Both digital and physical copies of the games can be played on the next-gen systems, with players simply having to put the disc into their system, or redownload the game from their PlayStation Network or Xbox Live accounts’ game libraries.

Your save game progress from the PS4 and Xbox One versions can be transferred over to your PS5 and Xbox Series X with a USB drive, using a LAN cable to transfer data between your old and new systems, or by simply uploading them to your cloud storage. For the latter option, you’ll need to make sure cloud saves are enabled on your PS4 or Xbox One.

All of your GTA Online and Red Dead Online progress will also carry over automatically, as long as you’re still using the same PlayStation Network or Xbox Live account.

Rockstar Games also revealed that LA Noire is also backward compatible, including PSVR’s The VR Case Files. Other classic Rockstar Games will also be backward compatible.

It’s worth pointing out that while these game will be backward compatible on both the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S and may run better and have shorter load times on the console’s release dates, this isn’t an entire ‘next-gen patch’ to full make use of all the extra horsepower.

The following games have been confirmed as backward compatible on Xbox Series X|S:

Are these two new Spider-Man suits cool enough for you to ditch your go-to look?

3 years 4 months ago

There's no topping Miles' Into the Spider-Verse suit, but Peter Parker is adding a few stylish suits to his eclectic wardrobe for Spider-Man Remastered. As if it isn't hard enough already to pick a favorite look.

Apart from the Amazing suit, which Insomniac previously spoke about, Spider-Man Remastered will also add the all-new Arachnid Rider suit and the Armored Advanced suit. You can see them in the gallery below. The Arachnid Rider, in particular, is worth inspecting up close. Zoom in. Check out that detailing.

Even if you're skipping the PS5 remaster, you'll still be able to wear these suits in the original PS4 version of Spider-Man – we just don't know how long the timed exclusivity period will last.

Personally? I'm down for Miles Morales asap, but Spider-Man Remastered isn't a priority.

Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit Remastered has arrived

3 years 4 months ago

A cop car and a sporty green car from Need For Speed Hot Pursuit.

The phrase “put the pedal to the metal” always confused me. I get that it means “go fast”, but every time it’s said out loud I hear “petal” or “medal”. None of these words sound real anymore. Aaaaanyway, the only reason I’m thinking about this expression is because Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit’s remaster came out today.

The new and improved version of Criterion’s 2010 racing game comes with cross-platform multiplayer, touched-up visuals and all the main DLCs, as well as 4K and 60fps on PC.
