2021 is proving to be a very interesting year in the world of indie games. We've already experienced some unique adventures in titles such as Before Your Eyes and Loop Hero, but there's plenty on the horizon for those who love the smaller but impactful experiences the genre's known for. Games such as Lake, Cris Tales, and 12 Minutes have us hopeful for the rest of the year, but one of our most anticipated upcoming indie titles is Sable, developer Shedworks' new open-world stunner.

If the name rings a bell, it's probably because you've seen the gorgeous visual style before. Recently shown off at the Geoff Keighley Summer Game Fest, Sable's vibrant and distinct art style has generated a large amount of hype, and for good reason. But now that the game's demo is out for Xbox and PC users, is it any fun to play?

It looks like Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania screens and box art have surfaced

2 years 10 months ago

UPDATE 15/6/21, 11PM: In much the same way that Sonic made a surprise roly-poly appearance in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD, it looks like the blue hedgehog will be making a playable return in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania - and this time with Tails in tow.

One enterprising internet sleuth (as spotted by Sonic fan site Sonic Stadium) has gone a-poking around Sega's newly launched Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania website and - presumably through a combination of curiosity, cunning, and guesswork - uncovered currently hidden art for a potentially playable Sonic and Tails.

You can see for yourself! Scroll down to the Characters section and you'll find six boxes, each showcasing one of Monkey Ball's familiar playable roster. Conspicuously though, the site layout leaves enough room for two more characters - and manually altering the image paths so portrait and in-ball art ends in sonic.png or tails.png reveals hidden Sonic and Tails versions of both:

The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes Has 60 Possible Unique Deaths

2 years 10 months ago

Earlier this week, we got an official release date for The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes, which will be coming to PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, and PS5 on Oct. 22, 2021. Today, during a special showcase dedicated to the game, Bandai Namco featured an interview with executive producer Dan McDonald.

In the interview, which you can see below, McDonald goes over everything fans of the series can expect with the third installment in the series.

Important bits of information were revealed regarding the House of Ashes’ setting in the interview, as it is stated that the game takes place during the Iraq War in 2003, centers around a unit looking for weapons of mass destruction. After a firefight breaks out, the American and Iraqi soldiers find themselves stuck in an underground city that is crawling with monsters.

When asked how many monsters the game has, the executive producer was coy, stating that there could be a few or there could be hundreds. He also stated that the themes and setting of the game were inspired by the Akkadian empire and God-King Naram-sin.

Super Robot Wars 30 Gets Crossover-filled Trailer, 2021 Release Window

2 years 10 months ago

The Super Robot Wars series is celebrating its 30th anniversary, and Super Robot Wars 30 has received a new teaser trailer to commemorate the occasion.

Streamed on June 15 via the official Nintendo YouTube channel, the trailer offers a glimpse at some of the characters, gameplay, and story that’ll be available in the sequel. Likewise, it reveals that the game is currently slated for release on the Nintendo Switch. Whether or not it will release on other platforms is unknown at this time, but we’ll update the article accordingly should that change.

While not many mechs, robots, and pilots were shown off in the trailer, a few of particular note did make an appearance. These include Amuro Ray and the original Mobile Suit Gundam; Suzaku Kururugi and the Knightmare Frame Lancelot; and Koji Kabuto and the Mazinger Z.

Some of these characters were even shown to be interacting with one another. Given the series’ history – and the long history of robot and mecha-centric anime to draw from – these characters and their interactions are only the tip of the iceberg.

It’s a trailer mech and robot fans are sure to enjoy, and well worth a look for those who can speak Japanese or have access to some closed captions. The trailer can be found down below.

You can watch it below.

Cyberpunk 2077 Set to Return to Playstation Store June 21

2 years 10 months ago

Earlier today in a regulatory announcement from CD Projekt, it was announced that their major 2021 release, Cyberpunk 2077, will return to the PlayStation after a six-month-long hiatus. A hiatus tied to poor console performance on PS4 and Xbox One.

The official translated release reads as follows:

In relation to Current Report no. 66/2020 of 18 December 2020, the Management Board of CD PROJEKT S.A. with a registered office in Warsaw hereby publicly discloses the decision by Sony Interactive Entertainment to reinstate the availability of the digital edition of Cyberpunk 2077 on PlayStation Store, effective on 21 June 2021.

It’s important to note that this is a direct translation from the original release that was released in Polish. This may introduce some some minor discrepancies between the two versions.

However, the main content that discusses the return of Cyberpunk 2077 to the PlayStation Store is absolute. The return in six days on June 21 comes in almost exactly six months since it was pulled from the store on Dec. 17, 2020 (Dec. 18 in Poland).

And just to be clear, there’s no indication that this will have any kind of impact on the release of the Xbox Series X|S or PS5 versions of Cyberpunk 2077. They both still appear to be set for a release window of the nebulous second half of 2021.

If you have yet to pick up Cyberpunk 2077, then check out our review of the PS4 game running on PS5 hardware.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

5 Biggest Action/Adventure Games at E3 2021

Easily one of the most unexpected game reveals at the whole of E3 2021, let alone the action/adventure scene, Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora came out of absolutely nowhere. Of course, it’s no secret that the Avatar movie franchise is set to expand over the next few years with three sequels, but a video game from a major publisher as well? It’s a very interesting development, indeed.
