It's now easier to support Rock Paper Shotgun

2 years 10 months ago

The RPS Supporter Programme launched back in 2014 as a way for readers to directly fund the kind of work we love most. The strange, the experimental, the personal, the obscure; the kind of work that's expensive and time-consuming, and loved intensely by those who get it.

Today we're making it easier to support RPS - and changing the way you access your benefits if you already do.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Season 4 adds armoured trucks to regular modes

2 years 10 months ago

Call Of Duty: Warzone Season 4 has finally crash-landed, like a number of satellites into Verdansk. Capture one of these smouldering space spheres and you'll earn rewards, one of which is only a flipping Armoured Truck. These metal stallions were previously only available in Armored Royale, a limited-time mode, but now they're a reward in normal matches. So, err, hey there buddy?! It's so good to see you again! Oh truck. Oh trucky truck, how I've missed you.

Ynglet review: a delightful anti-platformer

2 years 10 months ago

Ynglet is proof that great things can come from terrible, world-ending disasters. As you and your fellow microbe-like pals watch a meteor hurtling towards your tiny home on the TV, a new world erupts the carnage - and it looks awfully like a cartoon town map you might find at your local tourist office. As you slither across this newfound land, portals gradually open up to eight worlds of floating shapes that fizz and pop with light, music and colour. It's a platformer without any platforms, and it's probably the most delightful 90 minute adventure you'll play all year.

2 years 10 months ago

Call of Duty: Warzone has become the first PlayStation 4 backwards compatible game to support 120hz on PlayStation 5.

Season 4 launched this morning, and buried within the patch notes is word Warzone now has 120hz support for PS5. This requires HDMI 2.1.

It's a surprise but welcome addition, and hopefully heralds similar updates from other PS4 games running in back compat form on PS5.

The big Forza Horizon 5 interview: "There's not any point being bigger if it's more of the same"

2 years 10 months ago

Perhaps not one of the biggest, but one of the most pleasant surprises of E3 2021 was the unveiling of Forza Horizon 5 in a relatively substantial gameplay demo during the Xbox showcase - with a November 2021 release date to boot. It was a given that this enormously polished and entertaining open-word driving series by Playground Games would return, but we didn't know when; for its first four entries it had been on a strict biennial schedule, but the UK-set Forza Horizon 4 has now been entertaining people for almost three years with little sign of flagging, thanks to a well-judged and assiduously maintained weekly and monthly update schedule, as well as easy accessibility on Game Pass on both Xbox and PC.

It was to be expected that Horizon 4 might break the rhythm. While still emphasising beautiful and optimistic open-world driving fun and esoteric car collection, 4 brought a cautious but deliberate shift in emphasis towards 'live' gaming, with its constant updates and its living map populated by default with other players. It was more successful in some areas than others; the game is constantly rewarding to dip into, but (as with many previous Forza Horizons) it has struggled to make its rather chaotic online multiplayer offering as sticky as its solo challenges.

This is where Forza Horizon 5 enters the scene. Moving the action from Playground's home turf of Britain to the deserts, cities and rainforests of Mexico, Horizon 5 looks set to be another technically refined and thoughtfully put-together diversion from the master craftsmen at Playground. Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to talk to creative director Mike Brown - who presented the E3 demo - about the game, and Playground's hopes for it.

Have You Played... Griftlands?

2 years 10 months ago

Word is Dano spends her downtime knitting and her uptime hitting. Best to approach her when her hands are empty, either way.

Whenever you meet someone new during a playthrough of Griftlands, Klei Entertainment's masterful deckbuilder, the first thing you get is a short box of flavour text that often summarises their demeanour, their line of work, and their attitude towards you all at once, and rarely ever resorts to actually stating those things outright. It's so much easier said than done to write one of these sentences, and yet Klei makes it look effortless.

It's little things like this that make Griftlands easily the most enjoyable deckbuilder for someone who doesn't enjoy deckbuilders.

Mecha Strategy JRPG Relayer for PS5 & PS4 Introduces Sun & Her Voice Actress Mie Sonozaki

2 years 10 months ago

Kadokawa Games has released a new video, a new picture and new details about its strategy simulation JRPG Relayer.

With this new round of assets, we get to know a little better Sun and we get the introduction of her voice actress Mie Sonozaki

The image you can see below shows both Sun and the cockpit of her mecha, while the video prompts TSonozaki-san to introduce herself to the fans. You may be familiar with her as Ashe in Final Fantasy XII, Jeanne in the Bayonetta series, Oichi in Nioh 2, and Subaru in Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love.

The tweets reveal that Sun is the squadron leader of the Stella Gear stationed on the supergravity navigation test ship Asterism. She is a lady who can be counted on for her outstanding combat and leadership skills in the battles against the Relayer, but it appears that she is haunted by a bitter past experience in battle.

Nothing like Shao Kahn, former emperor of Outworld and major antagonist of the Mortal Kombat franchise, right? Well, that’s the path

It's OK, We Could Have Skipped E3 This Year

2 years 10 months ago

This year—for the first time since 2006(!!)I didn’t have to cover E3 for Kotaku, so I got the chance to experience the event as a reader and a fan, watching presentations and press conferences for stuff that excited me, instead of what needed to be written about.

Fallout: London is another impressive-looking Fallout 4 mod project

2 years 10 months ago

Yet another giant Fallout 4 modding project has released a trailer for an ambitious expansion-sized campaign. Fallout: London is planning to take players to see how the war affected things in the UK. London may change, but war doesn't. Things look just as irradiated, divided, and gritty as you'd expect from a major Fallout 4 mod project. There's no release date yet, and it's certainly looking like there will be plenty of infighting between its new, British factions. No Enclave or Brotherhood of Steel here.

10 Indie Games That Stole the Show During E3 2021

2 years 10 months ago

Replaced

Indie Games That Stole the Show During E3 2021

indie games e3 2021

Replaced was easily one of the best-looking indie games on display at E3 2021. It came out of nowhere and had our eyes glued to the screen during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase. Its 2.5D pixel-art style provided some of the best visuals of any game shown on that stream. Replaced is a sci-fi action platformer that has players in the role of an AI named R.E.A.C.H. trapped inside a human body.

We got to see a bit of its combat, platforming, and retro-futuristic 1980s world in a short trailer. This seems like one that you should keep an eye on if you’re at all interested in the genre. It’s being developed by Sad Cat Studios and published by Coatsink, and it’ll be coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
