Everything We Know About Valorant’s New Agent 16 ‘Deadeye’ So Far

2 years 5 months ago

Next week marks the beginning of Valorant Episode 3’s final Act, and it’s set to introduce a brand new Agent to the game. As usual, developer Riot Games has started ramping up little snippets of information ahead of the reveal, and so we’ve compiled another of our articles wrapping up everything we know about Valorant’s new Agent, codenamed ‘Deadeye.’ Here you’ll find a full summary of all the teasers that have been dropped both in-game and via social media. We’ll keep this page updated right up until the next week’s Act 3 launch.

Valorant Agent 17: Everything We Know So Far About Deadeye

Codename & Lore

While Riot has yet to share firm details on who Deadeye is, the developer has confirmed during one of its news articles back in late September that he will be a Sentinel Agent that “focuses on mechanical outplays,” with an “additional focus on gunplay” for “an extra flourish.”

You’ll notice we’re referring to the new Agent as a male and by the codename Deadeye, so where does that come from exactly? Well, an image of Deadeye was first teased during Valorant’s One Year Anniversary trailer, and shortly thereafter references to the name Deadeye started appearing in various different teasers, trailers, and in-game files. As you can see in the image above, Deadeye is a slick-looking professional who wears fancy clothes and wields some sort of large sniper rifle.

13.4 Million PS5s Sold Despite Console Component Shortages

2 years 5 months ago

Sony’s unprecedented success is attributed to music products, recent developer acquisitions, and the popularity of the PlayStation 5, among many other things.  A VGC report states that “Sony enjoyed its biggest revenue and operating profit ever for a Q2 window.” Moreover, a total of 13.4 million PS5s have been sold despite component shortages.

Sony’s games division has garnered almost $6 billion in revenue between July and September. Similarly, over the same three months, 3.3 million PS5 consoles have flown off the proverbial shelf, a 1 million increase over the first quarter – compare that ridiculous number to the meager 200,000 PS4 units sold in the same period. And yet, PS5 availability is still a point of contention for many PlayStation fans around the world.

Weird West Will Get Wild On PlayStation, Xbox, And PC This January

2 years 5 months ago

Wolfeye Studios has announced that its upcoming isometric action-RPG will ride into town (and demand a high noon showdown) on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and PC, this January.

Developed by Wolfeye, a studio made up of former Dishonored and Prey devs, Weird West is a unique take on the Wild West genre. It features its fair share of cowboys, coyotes, and midday duels, of course, but this frontier is also home to Pigmen, the undead, giants, and more. It is very much a “weird” west, and it can be experienced by all on January 11.

“Sheriff Wolfeye Studios and their slack-jawed deputy Devolver Digital have announced that Weird West, their upcoming action RPG experience set within a surreal vision of the developing frontier, is coming to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox on January 11,” a press release for the announcement reads. “To coincide with the news, the bucking broncos have opened pre-orders on Steam and released the first part of a brand new video series. Wolfeye Studios creative director Raf Colantonio walks through an overview of the game in the first of a series of deeper dive videos.”

Diablo Immortal's Closed Beta Launches Today... Complete With Controller Support

2 years 5 months ago

Activision Blizzard is currently facing serious ongoing allegations of harassment and mistreatment of marginalized workers. To learn more, please visit our timeline as well as our in-depth report on the subject.

Diablo Immortal's closed beta goes live today, and brings with it a stack of new features, such as the addition of controller support and the debut of the Necromancer as a playable class. Elsewhere, the game now has set items (but they're a little different to what you might expect), a ladder system for its Battlegrounds mode, and more collaborative raid-style end game content, among many other changes.

Before we get into all that, however, as with the closed alpha, not everyone will be able to access the closed beta. It's running on Android only and is restricted to players in Australia and Canada for now, with access for Korea, Japan and China in the coming weeks. Now, let's go through what players can expect from the closed beta, with a little help from Diablo Immortal's game director Wyatt Cheng and production director Caleb Arseneaux.

Weird West, the New Indie From Former Dishonored And Prey Devs, Has a Release Date

2 years 5 months ago

Weird West, the first game from WolfEye Studios, has set a release date for January 11, 2022.

The action RPG, set in a surreal version of America’s developing frontier, will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One consoles. Pre-orders are now available on Steam, and will grant players an in-game horse named Calamity. This horse doubles inventory size and will come with saddle bags stocked up with lockpicks, bandages, tools, and other items, as well as a Golden Ace of Spades upgrade token.

The announcement comes at the same time as a new video, which emphasizes the interactivity in Wild West’s world. WolfEye wants every item that looks to be interactive to work how you’d expect it to, and so many layers of simulation have been applied to cater to that. The video also reveals that there are five playable characters, each with their own storyline. One of those characters is bounty hunter Jane Bell, whose son has been killed and spouse abducted.

Weird West is a top-down RPG, described by the developers as an ‘immersive sim’, putting it in the same category as games like Dishonored and Prey. That’s no surprise considering WolfEye Studios was founded by Raphael Colantonio, the former founder of Arkane Studios. He set WolfEye up with fellow Arkane veteran Julien Roby.

Resident Evil Village Has Sold Over 5 Million Copies As Capcom’s Record Profits Continue

2 years 5 months ago

Capcom has announced that Resident Evil: Village has sold 5 million copies globally, reaching the milestone somewhat quicker than its predecessor Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. The news comes as Capcom reports record level sales and profits for a second quarter.

As announced in a press release, Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil: Village has now sold over 5 million units globally. Following a successful release window back in May, during which the game sold over 3 million units in its first week, Resident Evil: Village has since seen a "steady growth of sales" that has allowed the game's success to continue on.

According to the company, the success of Village is in part down to its "multifaceted expansion" of the series overall. "In addition to providing a sense of scale that outdoes its predecessor [Resident Evil 7: Biohazard], as well as storytelling that rises above the genre of horror games, this title was lauded for featuring a higher degree of action and even more expansive, highly engaging gameplay," a statement from the studio about the game reads.

Sony To ‘Aggressively Invest In Development Capabilities,’ More Acquisitions Likely On The Way

2 years 5 months ago

So far, 2021 has been a solid financial year for Sony. The acquisitions of Returnal developer Housemarque, Nixxes Software (known for its first-party PC ports), Star Citizen’s Firesprite, and remaster heavyweight Bluepoint Games contributed to a 20% increase in Sony’s total workforce.

According to VGC, this employee surge also led to record revenue numbers, as noted in the conglomerate’s second-quarter financial results. With this unprecedented level of success, Sony plans to “aggressively invest in development capabilities,” which likely means that more developer acquisitions are on the way.

Hiroki Totoki, Sony’s executive deputy president and chief financial officer, recently spoke about monetary success and the next steps. As Totoki put it, the new studios under the SIE umbrella are acclaimed for polished, engaging titles. And Nixxes Software, in particular, will ultimately help bring PlayStation games to other platforms.

Mario Party Superstars Review

2 years 5 months ago

With 23 years of history under its belt, the Mario Party series has certainly had its fair share of highs and lows, with its highs representing some of the most fun I’ve had playing local multiplayer games with friends, and its lows being… well, the near opposite of that. Thankfully, Mario Party Superstars is a celebration of only the best moments this long-running franchise has had. It gathers 100 of the most enjoyable minigames, five excellent boards from the first three Mario Party games, and an amalgamation of some of the best rules, mechanics, and quality-of-life improvements into a single Switch game. It’s still unsurprisingly dull without friends, and not all of the minigames are worthy of the “superstar” label, but on the whole this is quite simply the best Mario Party has been in a very long time.

2018’s Super Mario Party represented a “back to basics” shift for the series, and Mario Party Superstars has taken that idea several steps further by focusing in on the N64 and early GameCube days. There are no motion-controlled minigames, no item capsules, no character-specific custom dice blocks, no buddies to recruit, and of course, no party car. Just four players, each taking turns rolling dice, moving along a virtual game board, playing minigames to earn coins, and using those coins to buy stars. And maybe it's because it has been a long while since we’ve had a Mario Party game without some sort of extra gimmick, but this simplicity is incredibly refreshing, and I certainly didn’t miss having something there to mix up the formula.

Murder House Is Everything Terrifying About Low-Poly Horror

What’s more frightening: a near-photorealistic video game killer pursuing you with perfectly motion-captured movements, or a silent, meathook-wielding Easter bunny with vague features and primitive textures, chasing you with a jerky, hand-animated gait? If you answered the latter, then the low-polygon horror games…

Mario Party Superstars Review – Helping You Lose Friends Since 1998

2 years 5 months ago

Mario Party Superstars on Switch

Mario Party Superstars is a return to what fans of the N64 titles may view as the good old days. Those magical times where everyone moved separately around the board and there were minigames at the end of every turn. Super Mario Party brought a touch of that experience back to the franchise, but Superstars spoils the long-time fans of the series with five classic N64 maps and over 100 of the best mini-games from the first 10 titles.

If you just tack on some online modes and worthwhile unlockables then one might think that this would be a surefire recipe for the greatest Mario Party game of all time. However, the lack of unlockables and a few other issues contribute to Mario Party Superstars feeling more like a paired down — but still better-looking — version of the old games.

Fortunately, what Mario Party Superstars does right is the most important aspect of the franchise, gameplay. Although the limitation of only having five playable boards is disappointing, the selection is perfect for groups of friends who want to either take it easy or challenge their party game skills.

After 5 Years, Titanfall 2 Is Still One of the Best FPS Games of All Time

2 years 5 months ago

I’m not the best Titanfall player out there. Not even close. But I’ll never shut up about how much I love the series. Today is Titanfall 2’s fifth anniversary, so there’s no better time to shell out even more praise for this unforgettable mech FPS.

Titanfall 2 is still, without a doubt, one of the greatest FPS games of all time. Both its single-player campaign and multiplayer modes can go toe-to-toe with any of the other best options in the genre and come out on top. The fast-paced and fluid movement system remains unmatched to this day. Not only that, but the unique gameplay experience doesn’t just boil down to point and shoot.

No other FPS of similar quality allows me to double-jump up, run on a wall, grapple onto an enemy in mid-air to finish them, then land inside a giant robot. Not a single one. And that’s not even one of the more complex maneuvers that Titanfall 2 allows players to pull off. Even Apex Legends, although great, can’t provide that exact same thrill.

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick Says He’ll Receive Minimum Wage Pay Until “Transformational Gender-Related Goals” Are Met

2 years 5 months ago

In an open letter released today, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick says he’ll be receiving the California minimum wage for salaried employees until the company’s Board of Directors has achieved “transformational gender-related goals.”

Kotick laid out those goals in the letter released today, as first reported by Video Games Chronicle, and he claims that his reduced salary will be $62,500. He also notes that “this is a reduction in [his] overall compensation” and not just his salary. The CEO claims he’s asking not to receive any bonuses or be granted any equity during this time.

“I truly wish not a single employee had had an experience at work that resulted in hurt, humiliation, or worse – and to those who were affected, I sincerely apologize,” Kotick writes. “You have my commitment that we will do everything possible to honor our values and create the workplace every member of this team deserves.”
