How To Avoid Losing Your Wordle Streak

2 years 2 months ago

If you take pride in your Wordle winning streak, you may want to sit down. Following the migration of the game's web address to the New York Times' website, it appears everyone's scores have been reset. You'll have to start from scratch on your streak--that is, unless you do one thing differently.

This wasn't supposed to be the case, according to a help section on the official New York Times site. According to the paper, all game statistics were supposed to migrate when the transition was made, and it suggests making sure you're using the same browser and are not in private mode.

However, several people have said it killed their streak anyway. It does show the maximum streak you had and how many times you've played, but your current streak can get reset to zero.

Pokémon TCG: Sword & Shield – Brilliant Stars | The Coolest Cards We Pulled From Booster Packs

2 years 2 months ago

The first Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion of 2022 is finally ready to launch, and as such, we're here to crack open a ton of booster packs for the Sword & Shield – Brilliant Stars expansion. The expansion includes more 170 cards, including 4 Pokémon VStar cards, 20 Pokémon V, and 3 Pokémon VMax cards. In addition, Brilliant Stars features 30 Trainer Gallery cards with special art, more than 20 Trainer cards, and a new Special Energy card.

We were sent a ton of booster packs for the Sword & Shield – Brilliant Stars expansion. When I opened up all the packs and sorted through my pulls, I was pleased with the generational spread. While Kanto and Galar Pokémon continue to be well-represented, I noticed more Sinnoh monsters this time around. With Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl hitting just last year, and Legends: Arceus launching last month, this feels like a smart move.

Call Of Duty: Vanguard Playlists Updated With Suggestive Names For Valentine's Day

2 years 2 months ago

It's almost Valentine's Day, and to set the mood, Activision has updated the playlist names for Call of Duty: Vanguard with a spicy and suggestive twist.

As you can see in the image below, the playlists now have new, more amorous-themed names, including "Up Close And Personal," "Lover's Lane," and "Heartpoint." The Champion Hill modes now have new names, too, including "Third Wheel," "Couples," and "Single And Ready To Mingle." There is also the usual Private Match, which, uh, could be considered suggestive in its own way.

These new playlist names seem to be slightly toned down and less suggestive than playlist names from past Valentine's Day updates. Fans may recall how 2019's Modern Warfare had special playlists names like "Friends With Benefits," "Hurts So Good," "Hot Singles In Your Area," and who could forget, "Wanna Cyber?"

These new playlist names will presumably be available through the weekend until at least Monday, February 14, which is Valentine's Day.

Call Of Duty Devs Admit Warzone Is Broken, But Still Dedicated To Fixing Things

2 years 2 months ago

Sequels to both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone have been revealed, but Activision has also highlighted its plans to fix the broken state of the current Warzone experience. In a February 11 blog post, Activision addressed some of Warzone's biggest issues since the new Caldera map dropped with Season 1, which include console performance issues, graphical bugs, and invisible skins.

"The number one priority for our developers is quality of life," Activision said. "Making changes that allow Warzone to be more accessible and less frustrating for our community." The publisher then revealed that over 30 improvements would be arriving with the launch of Season 2 on February 14.

Among these updates will be improvements to all forms of movement, which include vehicle handling, parachutes deploying at a lower vertical height, increased player mantle height, and collision fixes for both vehicles and players. The update will also make changes to Warzone's frustrating gas mask animation, which currently interrupts players while they aiming down sights. Players can also expect a change to refilling armor plates, as it will be updated to refill a full plate of armor before filling damaged ones.

Second Annual Accessibility Award Nominees Celebrate Far Cry 6, It Takes Two, Halo Infinite, and Many More

2 years 2 months ago

The 2021 Video Game Accessibility Awards has just unveiled its list of nominees with a wide, diverse spread of games being celebrated and no single title running away with dozens of nominations.

Several games received nominations in two categories, including Before Your Eyes, Unpacking, Halo Infinite, Far Cry 6, Back 4 Blood, It Takes Two, and Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.

The winners will be announced on March 12, 2022, on a livestream hosted by Accessibility Awards co-creators Steven Spohn and Alanah Pearce [Disclosure: Alanah Pearce is a former member of IGN's editorial content team].

The awards show was founded last year in partnership with Able Gamers to celebrate games that push the bar of accessibility and enable more players with diverse needs to enjoy games. The judging panel is made up entirely of disabled gamers, and its categories are based on accessibility guidelines created by Able Gamers as tools for game developers.

"My goal when I created the awards show was to celebrate developers who are making significant strides in accessibility, as a thank you to those studios, but also in the hopes that it would encourage other studios to get involved," Pearce said. "If there's an awards show for something and it has some visibility, I figure more studios are likely to try to strive to be included, thus raising the bar for accessibility across the board. We're also inherently educating any developers who might watch the show on what the different categories do, thus hopefully encouraging different accessibility needs to be considered earlier on in development cycles.

Call Of Duty: Warzone Will Not Add FOV Slider On Console

2 years 2 months ago

Activision has big plans to support Call of Duty: Warzone in the future, but unfortunately for fans, a field-of-view (FOV) slider is not going to be possible on console.

In a blog post, Activision said a FOV slider is a highly requested new feature from the community, but it won't be possible in Warzone on console due to how it could impact performance. The performance impacts would be most pronounced on PS4/Xbox One, but because Activision wants a good experience on all machines, it's opting to not add FOV sliders at all.

"Adding FOV on console in Warzone creates major performance impacts for old-gen console players. Our goal is for Warzone to be a performant experience on all platforms, so we do not plan to implement an FOV slider on console at this time," Activision said.

Also in the post, Activision acknowledged that it hasn't done the best job overall in "directly speaking" to every concern raised by the community--it promised to do better.

"We are reaffirming our commitment to listening to these concerns and ensuring vigorous and beneficial internal discussions that the developers have about them before solutions--whenever possible--are implemented," Activision said.

The upcoming launch of Warzone Season Two will be a "major step" in improving the game experience, Activision said. The update arrives on Monday, February 14.

In other Call of Duty news, Activision has officially announced Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2, both of which are expected to launch this year.

2 years 2 months ago

Today Activision posted some juicy news for fans of the Call of Duty franchise, providing information about what’s next later this year.

First of all, we learn that the next Call of Duty game, which is in development at Infinity Ward, will be a sequel to Modern Warfare.

It will be powered by a new engine and will include a “new Warzone experience” designed from the ground up with the game. Infinity Ward is developing both.

According to the announcement, we can expect “a massive evolution of Battle Royale with all-new playspace and a new sandbox mode.”

At the moment, no further information was shared, including whether the game will be “Modern Warfare 2” or something else.

If you’re wondering, Microsoft (which recently acquired Activision Blizzard alongside the Call of Duty franchise) already pledged to bring the upcoming iterations of Call of Duty to PlayStation, so this Modern Warfare sequel will remain multiplatform.

Of course, we’ll keep you posted when further information is shared.

The Town of Light dev's WW2 thriller Martha is Dead will be edited on PlayStation

2 years 2 months ago

Martha is Dead, the upcoming first-person psychological WW2 thriller from The Town of Light developer LKA, will require certain elements to be altered ahead of its release on PlayStation 4 and PS5, publisher Wired Productions has revealed. The PC and Xbox versions remain unaffected, however, and will release unedited at launch on 24th February.

Martha is Dead unfolds in Tuscany, 1944, against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict between German and Allied forces; as its story begins, the body of a woman, Martha, is discovered by the side of a lake deep in the Italian countryside, and players - in the role of her twin sister - must deal with the repercussions of the murder, "all whilst the horror of war draws ever closer".

Call Of Duty: Warzone 2, Modern Warfare 2 Confirmed

2 years 2 months ago

Call of Duty: Warzone 2, the presumed name for a sequel to Call of Duty: Warzone, was announced official on Friday alongside the next mainline game in the series: Modern Warfare 2. The news broke on via social media in the early afternoon, primarily through streamers and other content creators alongside a small blog post from the development team.

Activision later officially confirmed the news in a blog post. 2022's new Call of Duty game will be a sequel to 2019's Modern Warfare, which has reportedly sold 30 million copies.

This new game and the Warzone sequel have been "designed together from the ground up," Activision said. Both games run on the same brand-new engine, and Infinity Ward is leading the development on Modern Warfare 2 and the Warzone sequel. Very little is known about Warzone 2, but Activision said players can look forward to a "massive evolution" of the battle royale formula. This will include an "all-new playspace" and a new sandbox mode, neither of which were discussed.

Activision had been teasing Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2, so the announcement is not a total surprise. What's more, Activision management previously confirmed new Call of Duty games were on the way after Call of Duty: Vanguard and the original Warzone missed the mark by some metrics.

Reminder: Don't Buy Horizon Forbidden West on PS5, Get It on PS4 Instead

2 years 2 months ago

Sony has finally updated its digital store page for Horizon Forbidden West, making it clearer that the PS4 version also comes with a free digital PS5 upgrade.

So here's your reminder, don't buy Horizon Forbidden West on PS5 - get it on PS4, whether that's physically or digitally, and upgrade to PS5 for free. Why should you do this? Well, it's pretty simple. The PS4 version costs $59.99/ £59.99, whereas the PS5 is still listed at $69.99/ £69.99 (without any clear explanation why).

In fact, in the UK, you can get the PS4 version of game for even cheaper, with Amazon listing the new PlayStation exclusive for £52.95, while Currys also has it for £51 when using code ALOY15. You get the same game, but for less — it really is a no brainer.

Despite previous assurances from Sony, there was still some trepidation about the PS5 upgrade from @IGNDeals followers. Seemingly, the upgrade hadn't been addressed since September of 2021 when Sony revitalised their intial promise of a free upgrade path for all PS5 launch titles.

Lost Ark Launch Delayed Slightly, Limits Character Creation On Some Servers

2 years 2 months ago

Platform: PC
Publisher: Amazon Games
Developer: Smilegate
Release:
Rating: Mature

Lost Ark has been making plenty of waves this week as it debuted in western countries for the first time. Although the MMORPG is free-to-play, the first few days of access have only been available for those who purchased a Founder's Pack. Despite that minor and temporary price gating, Lost Ark has been pulling some impressive numbers with over 500,000 concurrent players in the first two days. The popularity of the title has led to some adjustments to where new players can create characters and the opening of new servers to accommodate the audience starting to play this week.

Vampire Survivors Early Access Review

2 years 2 months ago

Sometimes the simplest, silliest games sink their hooks into me don’t let go even while bigger, flashier options cry out for my attention. That was what happened with Vampire Survivors, a weird little early access game that started blowing up on the Steam charts despite looking very much like the hundreds of other tiny pixel-art games that come and go every day. What’s novel about it is very simple: it’s basically a twin-stick shooter that does away with the right stick, leaving you to worry exclusively about positioning yourself while it takes care of firing your ever-escalating collection of weapons at the thousands of increasingly spongy enemies that flood the screen. It’s a clever idea that works for a lot longer than I expected before its challenge petered out, and one that feels like it has a lot of room to grow.

There’s no sugarcoating it: Vampire Survivors sure doesn’t look like much. The pixelated 2D character sprites seem torn out of a generic and long-forgotten fantasy game from the early '90s and are barely animated, with the most interesting part being that some of them do have a nice disintegration effect as they die. It’s as simple as it can possibly be while managing to stay as readable as it needs to be so that you can mostly tell what’s going on during the utter chaos that’s about to ensue.

Pokemon TCG: Brilliant Stars Is Bolstered by Its Flashy Subset

2 years 2 months ago

pokemon trading card game sword shield brilliant stars

It's a big time for Pokemon! With two new games in recent months, there's a lot of energy and attention around the franchise. The Sword & Shield: Brilliant Stars expansion of the Pokemon Trading Card Game looks to capitalize on that with high-power cards, visual flair, and a focus on the progenitor Pokemon itself, Arceus.

By far, the biggest draw for Brilliant Stars is its Trainer Gallery subset. These cards feature a Pokemon and an accompanying trainer. With cards that feature Eevee romping around Bill’s office or Urshifu training with Mustard, they offer a more active view into the world of Pokemon. The Trainer Gallery is a bit rarer than we'd like, though! It'd be cool to have more fun art in common or uncommon tiers, rather than crossing our fingers for a chance to see one every few packs.

Brilliant Stars marks the debut of the VSTAR mechanic, the latest variation of top-tier power in the game. VSTAR cards evolve from V, and each has a "VSTAR Power" in tow. It can be an ability or move, but either way, you can only use one of these each match. It feels like a rework of the GX idea from the last generation of the game, with a bit more flexibility on function with included ability options that don't end your turn to use.
